I had a few hours to kill this afternoon so I took a chance & saw The Green Lantern. The reviews were bad but I was never one to listen to reviews anyhow
The last thing I saw with the word Green in it was The Green Hornet which was absolutely putrid. I am pleased to say I found Green Lantern really fun
Skip the 3 D as it does nothing for the film & save yourself the money. It is a great way to while away a few hours & not fell like you thrw your money down the sewer.
The backstory of The Green Lantern was good as was the special effects & Ryan Reynolds in the title role. The monster at the end was a bit overblown but that is the only problem I had with it.
A sequel would be great but I do not think the business it is generating will warrant it.
I'll go see anything with Ryan Reynolds' abs, but this one has gotten such horrid reviews I'll probably skip it.

besides Avatar... has any movie ever really worked with 3D??? such a waste

Both Coraline and Up both benefited from 3D.
How To Train Your Dragon also worked really well in 3D.
I barely had any interest in seeing Green Lantern, but word of mouth and the reviews have been so bad that I think I'll wait for it to show up on netflix :)
I was going to see this but think I will wait for it come out on DVD. Way too many comic book movies coming out nowadays. I LOVED the new X-MEN movie and I think Captain America looks like it is gonna be real fun(I like the time periods of X-MEN and CAPTAIN AMERICA)
I'm with Jordan. I can sit through anything with Ryan Reynolds.
Has Ryan Reynolds done even one good movie?
Who cares? 'Buying the Cow' was my all time favorite!

Trash. If you really want to spend money at a theater, just go see X-Men: First Class again
It slightly underperformed at the box office and considering it costs more than either Thor or X-Men, that is disappointing especially considering how aggressive Warner Bros. was with their marketing campaign. If it is as bad as people say it is (which will disappoint me), the sequel potential dies (and so does the more interesting Green Lantern storylines) and forget seeing a DC Comics second-tier superhero on screen for a while.
I hope it underperformed because reviews and word of mouth were bad (X-Men: First Class had 20th Century Fox royally screw them with their marketing choices) to save it. I am with romantico, Captain America looks fun in a pulpy, throwback way (it helps that the director had previously done The Rocketeer) that I am looking forward to it but I also want it to do well. Same with X-Men: First Class (I have seen it twice in theaters with a different set of friends and my sister is now warming up to see it in the theater) which will be lucky to match its budget in domestic box office.
EDIT: Supposedly Martin Campbell and the screenwriters got screwed by the Warner Bros. Campbell allegedly had a slow-burner origins story on hand but was forced to not even have 2 hours of runtime. Word is not just wait for the DVD, wait for the Directors Cut.

Saw it last night. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'd say I enjoyed it. Except for the love scenes that brought things to a screeching halt.
I didn't think it was all that bad. And I want my body to look like Ryan's in the costume... even if it IS CGI.
Just a note to people who are planning on seeing it but haven't yet. There is an extra scene after the first set of credits

I thought some of the film was cool, but parts of it were too cheesy.

Apparently, you've never seen, HOUSE OF WAX, DIAL M FOR MURDER, KISS ME KATE, FRIDAY THE 13TH, PART 3, all of which are better 3D films than the tedious, if extremely popular, AVATAR.
Saw the first 3 & I totally agree. The old 3D was much better than todays overblown 3D messes.
I still remember the paddle ball 3 D man to this day.
I'm watching Green Lantern: First Flightit Anyone else see it?
Definitely not as mediocre as the box-office and reviews would suggest. Sure there were slow parts, and there was a little more alien and a little less superhero than I'd like, but overall I thought it was quite enjoyable. A pessimist is never disappointed, as they say. And I got to look at Ryan Reynolds for two hours, which in itself was worth the ticket-price.
SPOILER!
In that little scene that Eris mentioned, the leader guy who turned yellow...that was him becoming evil, right? Where did that come from?? I suppose it was to set up a sequel?
Spoiler...
Sinestro is GL's main nemesis and that scene sets up a sequel.
Ah, I see. That sequel is looking somewhat unlikely now, I would say.
I went to see the movie, despite the reviews, b/c as a kid I always liked GL, and as an adult I really like RR.
The movie is not perfect, and definitely pails in comparison to the two super hero movies- Thor and X-men First Class that preceded it. But GL is not nearly the mess reviewers have made it out to be. I really enjoyed it, and with some stronger writing the sequel could be great, it is a shame it looks like it wont happen.
