I've been lucky to have met Adam in a lot of unusual (for a fan, anyway) situations. If I'm intimidated at this point, it's because I'm just naturally prone to getting nervous, not because of anything he does that's "scary" -- on his part, he makes it very easy to feel comfortable with him. And for the most part, I do. Raul... I don't know. He's so on and off that it's really hard to put that kind of marker on him. I think I feel better when there are a lot of people around as some sort of protection against social awkwardness because I'm NOT as easygoing with him as years of practice and sheer luck have allowed me to be with Adam. But when there's a crowd, like I said, you lose the opportunity to really talk to them at length about their work. Of course, last night, I had that opportunity with Adam and my brain went on vacation.
Interviews make me very nervous just because when I'm conducting them myself, I feel as though I'm under this enormous amount of pressure to... perform, in a sense: to be a certain way, ask the right questions, say the right things. When you're the interviewer, you're in control -- to a degree -- and that's an enormous responsibility. I got in over my head with one, and it was really, really stressful -- but also an enormous learning experience. I think Adam would be a fun interview because his demeanor is fairly relaxed, though. It's strange to find myself joking around with him now with such vivid memories of hiding behind my mother lingering in the back of my mind.
A work of art is an invitation to love.
