I have sort of a weakness for cheesy and lo-fi, so that makes me curious. I'd listen, but I'm at work right now (and wouldn't want to inflict potentially bad music on my coworkers).

The drums, the vocal effects, the looping, and the mixing all sound pretty terrible to me. The vocals sound very disconnected from the music, but that could be a quality issue that won't be as apparent on the CD.

I heard that song live (cough, and live on mp3) many many times, my basis of comparison is pretty fixed and I'm probably more judgmental because of that.

It makes me wonder just how much influence the Civilian and MP producers had, as there's just none of that apparent so far.

Or how much influence Larry has now? I don't know, I'd be more inclined to assume that this what we're hearing now is an influx of new influence rather than an absence of the old. I feel like at least the other albums were at least slightly similar to his old stuff, whereas this new stuff has no similarity to anything at all. Not that an artist needs to remain completely pigeonholed for his entire career. At all. But this... well, epic style seems to have come out of nowhere.

Listening to it just now, I was reminded of when they first put up Beautiful Song before Civilian was released and how it made me be like, "I NEED to hear the rest of this now!" I mean, it could be because I was like 17 then, but I don't really get that from this.

I thought it sounded fine, not great but not terrible. I agree with Craww about the vocals sounding distant. It sounded like they need to push his voice forward. I wonder if that was intentional or if it was just this song. It almost makes it have a "world music" vibe. I feel bad feeling so negative when it seems like Adam's so proud and excited about this, and I'm sure that 90% of his fans will love it just because it's him. I don't know...I guess the style of this music isn't my cup of tea.

Yeah, I had the same reaction when Beautiful Song went up. It was that summer AIDA closed, and we had to wait months for the album -- it seemed endless. And you're right, I think we can blame it partially on age-related enthusiasm, but at the same time, if the new stuff sounded like that and had any energy to it at all, I could see myself feeling a similar sense of anticipation. I counted the days for that album to come out, and this, I'm just sort of like "oh, okay." I keep reminding myself that we haven't heard it all in final form yet and hoping that I'll be pleasantly surprised when I actually get the album, but... I don't know.

And lol, "world music" makes me think of those guys with the pipes in Times Square.

lol, i love those guys!

I will have to listen to it when I get home from work, but as I've said before, I haven't been overly thrilled with any of the new stuff so far, so i'm not putting much anticipation into it. I couldn't tell you what the reason is because i haven't been paying to much attention to past stuff, Larry influenece, etc. But then again, when i first heard MP, i was like WTF
????? I almost never went to listen to it again, but did, and eventually grew to appreciate it. Same with Civilian. Hopefully I'll eventually turn a page with this one too.

Their CDs probably have better production values.

It took me a few listens, but I definitely agree that the sound quality is just lacking something. I have noise canceling headphones, and there was something about the mix that just sounded really dull. I'm still not loving the song, but I think I would prefer to listen to it the way it sounds on YouTube videos.

I'm listening to it again, and I was just remembering that when they put the Civilian clips up on the website that first time, they were purposefully "under-produced" versions to prevent people from downloading them in lieu of buying the album. I wonder if this is also a purposefully rough version? The instrumentals sound sort of dull, but Adam's voice actually sounds more produced than it does on the other albums. Parts of the vocals are kind of reminding me of the way he sounds on the Rent movie album, which, as much as I like it, is filled with the audible sound of technical production.

How many shows has he canceled lately? Is anyone keeping track of his schedule? I'm pretty sure this is the 3rd or 4th in the past month.

Ok, past two months. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 15 But they've all been pretty recent and most without any explanation.

I think it also seems weird because he hasn't been performing that much. I mean, if it were an 8 show a week deal, or a full blown tour, that number of absences wouldn't seem strange.
