Well, the Fuse people were asking what they'd like to see more/less of at his concerts. I'd venture to guess that not all people gave insightful answers, but I hope that he did get some good ideas out of the question.

i know Ilana had a sit down with adam and talked to him for a while about what he should be doing, ie: better website, more marketing of his music, etc. and from what she told me adam asked them to ask the fans about the music and what they want to hear. i know they must have asked me like 3 or 4 questions trying to get at what my favorite songs were from each album, etc.

And while I am on the subject, I'm not sure I fully 'get' what Adam is trying to do with his music career besides make some money.

Adam isn't doing music to make money, he's doing it because it's what he loves to do. That's what he's always made clear was his goal; he just kind of fell into acting by accident. The few scattered concerts you mentioned certainly aren't going to make him a significant amount of money, neither is creating a CD that he's financially backing himself only to sell a few thousand copies. I'm sure he'd LIKE to be able to live off his music, but he's smart enough (*insert Adam is dumb joke here*) to know that's not possible at this point, so he's doing as much as he can to enjoy it, then going back to being a househusband or whatever it is he does in the long months in between his acting jobs.

He didn't go back to Rent because he loves the show and loves acting, he went back because he got paid a crapload of money to do so. Acting is a more lucrative career than music, but that doesn't mean acting is his ultimate goal. Why do you think so many Broadway performers release solo CDs?

i have to disagree with this, yes i think he went back partially for the money, but he has said in numerous articles and on his myspace that he thoroughly enjoyed getting to play that part again, and having that chapter of his life end on stage where it began, so although it may not have been the sole reason, his love for the show had to have played a part in it.

I think he would love to sell a lot of records and get played on the radio, but is very relieved to have avoided the big label juggernaut. The record company basically makes the artists pay for the production costs, while telling them what to record, what to wear, what to make a video of. The music industry is in bad shape right now, and I think Adam is lucky to be on Sh-K-Boom, despite the commercial drawbacks of a smaller label.

By the way, the venues where he's playing when the Rent tour will be around might have planned it that way, figuring it would be extra publicity.

true, i'll give you that. i'm guessing that he could have just not said anything at all about it on his myspace, but since he did there must be something positive about the experience

Goodness, this thread can move quickly.

Lexi, I agree, but it's not even just about the venues that are willing to book him, I think a lot of Adam's touring woe's could be fixed by having a decent booking agency, which he doesn't seem to have. He seems to jump between small companies that really don't have the ability to properly book him. How many theatres has he been booked in where it is almost embarrassing that he can only fill 1/3 of it.

Does Adam even have management? I've been wondering this for quite some time now.

I didn't mean to imply that Adam is only touring to make money. The statement that I made was more me wondering, aside from being paid for the gig, what else is he getting out of the scattered gigs? Not in a personal sense, in that he enjoys it, but more in a career wise sense. Is he really gaining that many new fans, is he really gaining any additional profile by doing these dates?

Honestly, it's really naive to think Adam is oh-so attached to Rent that it had nothing to do with the money. If it meant that much to him (and Anthony), they would have done it for free instead of being paid probably 3 times what the rest of the actors in the show were getting.

My guess is he went looking for a Broadway job in order to make money while he was here, got offered Rent, went into it with some trepidation, as he has said, but ended up having a wonderful time. I don't think he'd say that going back has now replaced Cabaret as his favorite theatrical experience if he didn't mean it, but his initial motivation was undoubtedly to get those bills paid.

And it should be. I find nothing wrong with that at all.

And he is definitely NOT the first person to return to a show for financial reasons. Some haven't even liked the show, but needed money. So Adam I think probably had a nice balance of each, and simultaneously being able to record the album.

i agree... he actually says something close to that in an interview about going back to the show while he was in NY, about doing a show to pay the bills.

trust me i am certainly not naive enough to think that he only went back for the love of the show, i just think that anyone in that acting profession has to have some love for the part they are playing or it is very difficult to pull of the role successfully.

Another thought, does Adam even sell merch at his shows, because thinking back I don't remember seeing a table set up at any show I've attended...what a reveune stream he is missing out on. Even just selling his CDs would be significant.
