Defrosted beavers?

My pig dissection experience was the same as Emcee's - the pigs were preserved in formaldehyde and looked completely fake. I suppose we made it worse for ourselves by naming our pig Darius, but it seemed the only proper thing to do after the teacher's lecture about respecting the pigs.

Whether out of ignorance or callousness, the kitchen staff served pork on the day of Darius' dissection. If I hadn't already been a vegetarian, that would've done it. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

Only time you had to dissect a pig was in AP Bio, which I dropped 2 weeks in. In regular bio, we only had frogs and worms to dissect. We played with real frogs first, and then dissected already dead ones.

I had bio, AP bio, and Anatomy and Physiology, so I had to dissect frogs, mice, sharks, a fetal pig, and a cat. I had no problem with it (other than having A&P after lunch), but my lab partner was usually found in a corner, turning green.

Topic? I did get to see Cybele's food allergy show. It was pretty interesting, but I don't think I could do the alternative pasta thing unless I absolutely had to. (Although the meatballs looked good.) The children are adorable though.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

I opted out of my HS biology dissection.

Can I have a show of hands as to whether I should rename this thread part 14? Since Rob's thread about the lost posts has been deleted, I would guess they're not coming back and the previous part 14 sadly no longer exists.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

I only ever had to do a frog disection in Grade 11. I would've been grossed out by it, but I was more intrigued at how hidden it's sex was. We were supposed to record it in our findings, but we couldn't find it. It was interesting.

13 and 1/2 looks cool, actually, but since 14 has not been recovered then it's probably best to rename this thread Part 14. Or Part 14.2.

Right, I wouldn't want to give the impression that this is a miraculous resurrection of the former part 14. Hmm. How about Part 14 the Second?

ETA: you can tell how long it's been since I went to Sunday School, I can't seem to be able to spell "resurrection" anymore.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

I have a strange association with "version number" from my job. To me the term means I'm about to have to do a lot of extra work because I'm getting a new cut of whatever movie I'm working on. Hence my reluctance, but I'll go along with the consensus, once a few more people have expressed an opinion.

Version 2.0 or the Second is fine with me.

It's kind of unfortunate that such a large part of The Return reviews and posts were lost with the old threads. It was such an exciting time on here. I hope that they are able to restore those posts one day.

Sorry, I meant to answer your previous question about this before.

Yes, BWW had some kind of data loss, and as I understand it, all the posts from 8/28 until around 10/10 are gone. That includes about 2/3 of Part 13 and all of Part 14.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

It's rather disappointing that so many posts have been lost from an exciting time for all of us! What a bummer.

I was that weirdo in high school who did the alternate assignment instead of dissecting a frog in Biology class. Apparently I was the only student in my grade who opted for the alternate assignment, and my Bio teacher gave me quite a hard time about it since it forced her to actually grade a paper. I just could not bring myself to do it!

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

I think I probably could make myself do a dissection if
a) the animal was dead upon arrival (I could never dissect something I saw alive) and b) I convinced myself on some level that it wasn't real.. that's how I dealt with sitting next to a sheep's eye in a jar while eating my lunch this past week when I had to go during lunch to make up an essay test.

But dissecting a cat... that I could never do. Perhaps because I've had/I have cats and I've had them run away/die and after that, I'd never be able to look at a dead cat and not have my heart ache, let alone dissect one. (My opposition to dissecting a cat is probably also heightened by the fact that my cat is sleeping next to me as I type this.)

And on a different note...version 2.0 is fine with me; I also like part 14 redux.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

I could never dissect a cat. I've had two, and I love them. It would remind me too much of them.

I really hope we get those lost posts back. Losing the ones about October 7th is really a shame.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

My emo partner named the pig, not I re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2 My school has the accel physics kids do the cat dissection; and there is no way in hell I'll be do that. First off kitties make me sneeze and secondly I'd feel way to much guilt for doing that.

I also like the 14 version 2.0 spheal, that could work out nicely re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2

I didn't dissect the frog either, Lucky. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 13 1/2 They made you go through this whole ordeal where your parents had to write a letter to the teacher in advance just to make it more difficult, so only the hardcore activists (i.e. me at 13) would actually go out of their way to make the effort. I had to go to the library and do a computer program that "dissected" the frog.

In high school, my teacher was a b*tch that already hated me (she tried to fail me for being late to class, WTF?), so she seemed to believe I was against dissection just to annoy her. So she made me "observe" one group dissecting a rat. The group contained a girl I absolutely loathed (and vice versa) who made a huge deal about how unfair it was that I got to share their A for doing nothing. It doesn't take 6 people to dissect the rat and she sure as hell didn't touch the thing once, but whatever. But the worst part was that the rat was pregnant, so the teacher made us take out all the babies and pass them around the room *gag*. One guy wanted to dissect the babies, but we ran out of time in class.

Yeah. Horrible experience. The only other bio class I took was a requirement in college. No dissection.
