Did I ever say I thought it was you? I did not. However, your knee-jerk defensiveness speaks for itself. If offended by a generic statement, well, then, you probably have reason to be offended.
I take huge issue with this idea that you're a bad person if you don't think that every choice someone makes is a good one, just because you like the person or his work or whatever. And with the idea that you think you have the right to judge the ways in which we support him. How can you dare accuse someone who has been to nearly everthing the man has done for several years of her life of not being supportive? How can you insinuate that long time fans who are CLEARLY, logically, incredibly supportive of his work and stand behind him don't love him as much -- or more than -- the next person? You sling mud at me -- hell, us -- and I will sling it back.
I tell this story a lot, but it fits. I once said something about how I didn't think an actor I'm close with could play a certain role that had been originated by another performer, and it got back to him. He called me out on it, and I had to stand behind my claim. And I was very honest about what I said and why I said it. The fact that I was critical -- and UP FRONT with him about my criticism, to him personally -- hardly means that I don't support him. I said that BECAUSE I love him and his work. Because I believe in him, and because I knew he could take it. That may sound counterintuitive, but it's not. I had to say that I thought he COULD play the role, but that he was not right FOR it. And that, just as he wasn't right for certain parts Other Performer X had played, Other Performer X was also completely wrong for parts HE had played. And somehow everyone involved understood that I did not say that out of mean-spirit.
