Just catching up:
I'll admit my age (I'm 16), and I hate it how half of my friends are always going all fangirl over things like Rent. They drive me crazy! (Maybe that's why they hate me now) I saw Wicked before I read the book, and I had to force myself to keep reading it. I found it very dull and boring and it was hard to read because it was so different from the show.

"Wow, trying to steal his jacket? That is terrible! What are you gonna say- This is the jacket I stole from Adam Pascal so that he was cold and shivering on the way home? "
Unfortunately, that's not the extent of some craziness. I err...used to be a really huge fan of Hanson (okay I still really like their music but that's besides the point), and I remember at one point...early on after MMMBop came out, they did a concert at Paramus Park. Now the people there didn't predict how big they already were at the time, so the place was packed and crazy, with very lax security. On their way out...some girl, ripped off part of Taylor's shirt! They showed this on their home video, and you could see the shirt has a big hole on it from the back.
I mean...she ripped off part of the shirt he was wearing...see, I totally understand the perhaps...even irrationality of being ecstatic to get to meet actors/musicians you love, getting an autograph, a picture, a hug...but that's just going too far.

A fellow Hanson fan...woot.
Note to self (and others): Nearly breaking toes on coffee table...bad idea...not something I'd recommend doing *winces in pain*
By the way, I bought a pineapple today

I also used to be a Hanson fangirl *raises hand* I feel like I'm in a support group.
And YEAH I've seen some crazy fangirl behavior. I used to also be a big Dawson's Creek fangirl (don't mock me too hard) and I definitely saw girls try to rip off Joshua Jackson's shirt once and they like pushed him against a wall. It was scary, SCARY stuff.

Hey, there's no need for support groups. Be proud! I'll still make arguments why Hanson was better than most other boy bands, especially Backstreet Boys and N Sync (they wrote their own songs and played their own music among other things).

I'm not ashamed at *LIKING* them, more ashamed of the fangirl part.
Back in high school people used to tell me I looked like Taylor and that creeped me out.

I think its just like it is with the crazy Rent fans, crazy Wicked fans, whatever...Saying you're a fan, automatically people assume the worst (the jacket stealing, clothes ripping, constant screaming, I heart the pretty face only deal).

Exactly, Amber. It's sad how "fan" has become a dirty word.

That's entirely true.
But here's the weird part--it's only true for certain mediums.
If I said I'm the biggest Wicked fan in the world--people would think of more of the crazies at the stage door, etc.
But...if I say I'm the biggest Yankee fan in the world, most people either start loving me for it, or try to say bad things about the Yankees to me--but none of the bad connoctations of "fan" comes up in that context.
Similarly, if I go to...40 shows a year, I would be called obsessed.
If I go to 40 games a year, I would be called passionate or loyal.
(This is all just by the average, of course there are people who wouldn't do any of the above but taking the average person, those are the likeliest reactions).

Baseball is a more common thing to like; people get WHY it's likable. You walk down the street in an American suburb, and you're gonna find more baseball fans. I think that's the difference -- like, if someone's not into theatre, they're gonna go "wow, you're so obsessed" because they might think "that's a weird thing to like;" baseball is "normal."

There's also not a baseball game every day.

I have a job interview coming up where I'm going to have to tread VERY lightly over the word "fan." I mean, I'm not a psycho, or anything, but it sort of has become a dirty word.

Are you talking about as a fan of theater in general, or as a fan of certain actors? Because I think you could describe yourself as a theater lover and sound fine.

I'm rather cold.
Just thought you should know.
How is it possible that I'm already sleepy...I haven't done a dang thing today...

iTunes is being mean to me.
I've seen the 1998 Cabaret revival recording on there before, and I finally got my dad to let me borrow his credit card so I could get it, and I can't find it! All I can find is the OBCR, but that's not what I want.
*cries*

I know!
I've tried browsing and searching in every way for it, but noooo, it's not there.
It's mocking me!

Chess is my new obsession!
Just when DID fan become a dirty word? I think it should apply to anyone who is an appreciator of something.
