I really have no idea what's going on with this sub-discussion, but I hope everything works out. :) Ack, I hate internet fights.
Random, but are Seth's Chatterbox DVDs worth it? I keep seeing people referencing them on different threads. I realize the money goes to a good cause, but I don't exactly have a ton of money to spend in the first place...
Siamese, I don't think they have DVDs, just videos. I have 4 and I love them! I think if you look through the list and can find a video of 2-4 performers that you really really like, it's definitely worth it. Also, you can ask around about some specific, there are certainly ones I'd imagine more entertaining and enjoyable to watch than others.
Yea, I was wondering about the chatterbox DVDs as well. Are they worth it? Which of Adam's appearances is better - first or second?
wrq - they do in fact have DVDs
Ooh...oh well, I have the videos--are the DVDs more expensive for future reference?
I have Adam's first appearance w/ Sherie which I enjoy but I have heard from others that his second appearance was better. I also got the first one b/c I also love John & Steph so it def fit as a tape where I loved everyone enough to justify buying it--and John and Steph's is great.

I didn't know there were DVD's, I should check them out. I saw Seth when I was in NYC last Thanksgiving, and he was so hilarious, and I've heard him on the radio a few times since and he is really cool.
Teach me, oh wise ones ... Googled to find the chatterbox site and indeed I can buy DVD's ... is it interviews and performances? I looked at the one that is Steph D./John T. and Adam/Cherie but I didn't recognize the song Steph and John were singing.

Oh, sorry, I misread your post. Yes, from what I understand, the DVDs include interviews and performances.
Can anyone figure out exactly how many DVDs are available from that site? It looks like two (one for $35 and one for $25), but the DVD listings aren't very clear. Also, does the DVD price include S&H?
I'm so hestiant to buy these DVDs, though... I love Adam and some of the other performers featured on the DVDs, but I'm not sure if I love them enough to shell out $50+ on video clips that I might only end up watching a couple times.

Shiksa, who'd you see at chatterbox?
JLSat--it's pretty much--it lasts an hour, like a long interview...the performers talk about their lives, where they grew up, shows they've done in the past, shows they're currently doing--often they bring an embarassing video of something they've done in the past...sometimes sing a song like John & Steph, but it's very cool to watch. I definitely recommend the John/Steph and Adam/Sherie video...in each they start out w/ one and the other joins, though I think Adam leaves a couple minutes early. John & Steph talk about their past, John about wanting a fog machine for Christmas, and early work w/ the muppets and such which was very interesting and of course Q, Adam talked about how he got Rent and told a couple amusing, if not a bit scary, Aida stories and such, and Sherie talks a lot about bway shows she's done in the past like Who's Tommy and Grease.
I have three of the Chatterbox videos, and I think they're definitely worth it. First I'll mention the negatives though: they are not shot professionally and are somewhere in between professional quality and someone's home video. Sometimes Seth plays tapes on a big TV he has on stage and it's very hard to see what's on the screen. The sound can get a little funky sometimes too.
Now for the pluses: the interviews are very long and in depth. Adam's first appearance is around twenty minutes and his second, when he's the only guest, is forty minutes. Seth is a funny guy but also very interested in his guests and he asks some good questions. There are often performances during the interviews too, though Adam didn't do any singing, maybe because he was performing in Aida or Cabaret at the time.
Adam's appearances are about three years apart, and a lot of the same ground is covered regarding Rent. What I like about the first (Aida) one is how great he looked then and the sort of sweet side to his personality that was on display. Sherie Rene Scott was on with him and is very entertaining.
The second one (Cabaret) has Adam with his rather startling black hair and clean-shaven look. He still looks great but not what I think of as like himself. He's in a more assertive, confrontational frame of mind, especially when talking about Aida's reception by the critics and Tony committee, and there's a lot more detail about his history. I'm glad I have both of them.

cool. They do sound neat, but like people said - it's a lot of $ to shell out. Oh well, my birthday's coming in 6 months :)

Thanks SO much for the info, Chloe! It must have taken you a while to remember all of that and type it up. One last thing, though: Is there any actual footage of Adam singing anything on the DVDs or just these interviews?
It's video because they record on a video camera; it's so, so much more expensive to record onto a DVD minidisk.
I like the second one far better, but they're both worth the money. Plus, they put two sessions on each tape.
Adam doesn't sing on either tape, though; the first time he was just getting over being really sick, and the second time the interview portion went over and Adam had to get to his show.
I miss those 8 inches of hair.
aw man, these are sounding better and better. Maybe I'll get them sooner than summer :)
Has anyone seen Anthony's? I randomly ordered it a few weeks ago, but I haven't gotten it yet.
I should check Anthony's out.
My dad's watching some movie, and the original Rent trailer is on the DVD. Seeing it on his big-screen was the first time I've seen it on anything bigger than my 11-inch at school. Weird to see so much footage that's not even in the movie, after all of that.
I started noticing that more and more as the ads ran. Like uh, Mimi isn't wearing that outfit!
^^I wanted so bad to see that part.
Anyhow...hopefully there's a lot of cut scenes on the DVD.
That happens all the time. I remember when the trailers first started coming out and people were stressing over this and that shot and little detail. I tried to explain that a lot of those shots probably weren't even going to be in the movie. Some of them I wish had been, of course.

I just found some stuff in the Brokeback Mountain trailer, too.
This movie is becoming my new Rent.
Mandi, Anthony's chatterbox is great! Lots of ground to cover, they talk about his start in King and I when he was little and a funny anecdote w/ Yul Brenner through lots of his movies w/ clips of a quite of few including Adventures in Babysitting, umm...obviously a lot of Rent stuff, talks about Jonathan and what it was like to singing Seasons of Love at that first performance, onto You're A Good Man Charlie Brown where they show the tony performance and next to Kristin, he looks really tall!
But obviously Anthony's very eloquent and it's a great chatterbox and I highly recommend it.
Who's Adam w/ in his second appearance on the tape...Michael McElroy or something? I've been debating getting that one in my head for a while..you guys think it would be worth it even if I have the other?
And yeah the quality isn't great, sometimes the videos come out blurry but it still could go well...for Daphne Ruben Vega's in introducing her he showed a music video she did for Out Tonight...quality wasn't perfect but decent enough that I really enjoyed watching and man even I'll say it was hot...but I agree the tapes are definitely worth it.
Em, do you have a picture of the post-8 inches or too early?
