Like CompulsiveBowlers, all the Rent communities on LJ seem to have this pervasive aura of negativity and bitchiness surrounding them. I can't put my finger on one specific issue, but it's just an overall attitude most people seem to have. For example, I posted the link to the BWW video (with the interviews on the red carpet) earlier today, stating that my computer unfortunately wouldn't allow me to fast forward through Ken making an ass of himself early in the video (apologies to anyone who found him amusing, I just didn't). Someone felt the need to snap at me, saying that if I watched his other shows instead of "just this one because of the Rent people," I'd realize that he's actually hilarious. Well, sorry that I don't watch every single show known to man and that I didn't find the man funny.
Meanwhile, everyone ignores the fact that there are 294083243 icon posts (like you said, BG) and doesn't feel a need to snap on them for posting yet more icons.
Wow, that was a rant about essentially nothing, but I'm just angry that a lot of places where one should be able to go to interact with fellow Rent fans are actually breeding grounds for rudeness.
BG, I know exactly what post you're referencing and yes, that was very sad, especially after the girl admitted that she realizes that it was illegal. I defended her saying that the deed was already done and she didn't need various people ganging up on her to which someone called me a "dumbass." Ooookay.
Rent fans just have a lot of anger. What can I say? heh.
So I'm threadjacking, but I just ventured over to the main board and all the wicked posters seem to be out in full force today. I wonder why that is?
Ok, I'm getting sleepy, I'm off to bed. Goodnight all.

Hah, no, you're not threadjacking! I was, by writing a rant about Rent fans.
I think it's safer over here than at compulsivebowlers or LJ because BWW is bigger. There are nice little nooks to hide in

I think that the people who act like that have some sort of need to "prove" that they're not just a stereotypical Renthead and they're interested in other Broadway-related things. I can understand that sentiment, but the way a lot of them go about expressing it veers into rudeness.

Exactly. I mean, all of those icons just start looking the same after a while.
princesskatt, I think the Wicked explosion on the main board has to do with quite a few cast members doing their last show today.
Night, Snowbird.
Yall can call me Katt if it makes it shorter to type. I kind of hate this screename because I made it last year and then forgot about BWW until a month or two ago. And yeah I guess the cast member switch is probably it. I don't know what the obsession with Wicked is though. I'm going to see it in New York next month along with some other plays so I bought the soundtrack, and while the soundtrack isn't bad, I just don't get why people go so crazy over it. Maybe its because I haven't seen it live, I don't know.

Yeah, a lot of the rudeness probably has to do with people, either consciously or subconsciously, trying to prove that they're not the stereotypical Rent fan. Lame.
I don't know the first thing about Wicked other than I downloaded a few songs from the cast recording and didn't care for them at all. Perhaps I should give it a second chance, but the rabid fanbase scares me a bit (heh, not that I let that stop me with my Rent fandom).
Anyway, I should probably head to bed, too. 'Night everyone!
For what it's worth, Wicked is my mother's favorite show that she's ever seen. I don't quite get why it has such a massive following and I'm not sure if I would want to see it again, but I enjoyed it when I saw it (and as much as I'm embarrassed to admit it, I cried my eyes out during No Good Deed).
Goodnight, siamese!
I loved Wicked. I know it's not the most brilliant musical ever to grace a Broadway stage, but that doesn't mean I can't emjoy it. But there's such a stigma around it because of the teenybopper fanbase that people just make it out to be the new Cats- the show all the "intelligent" theater-goers bash because just they can.
My mom and I just got into a argument about me always being up late and she dragged up all these other issues she has with how I'm living my life in the process. Um, now that she's gotten me upset, how does she expect me to go to sleep?
*minimizes windows*
Agh, I'm so tired. I didn't fall asleep til after 2:30, and I woke up at like 7:30, unable to go back to sleep again. *yawn*
im not even going to start posting on compulsive bowlers, too scary

Aww, guys! CB is not THAT scary! I post there fairly often (and y'all are not scared of me, are you?), and nobody has jumped down my throat or anything. I even had my first "internet friend" meet-up with a fellow CB'er.
*tries to be an angry Rent fan* Grrrrrr!! BOO! *is really not that scary*
I love LJ. I think I might be the only one. Hm.
You think the amount of icon posts are bad now? Just wait until after the release of the DVD.
Oh, and if you want some real headdesk moments, check out the Rent community at Greatest Journal. Oy.

Oh wow, look at some of those testimonial things
"this community is amazing because it's all about rent and rent is amazing, therefore the community is amazing, 'cause everything is rent."
"rent rent rent rent...reeent. i am obssed wit....reeeent! lol this is a cool effin community!" [WHY can't people learn to spell?]
Oh, and the Anthony is gay thing? And then this comment...
"My mother, who watches Law & Order so knows Jesse, says that he's gay. I don't know where she heard it."
They are moaning about Anthony being gay like he is going to come marry them or something.

"My mother, who watches Law & Order so knows Jesse..."
Well, damn, I know a LOT of famous people. Lucky me!
I mod that community, and I just really want to delete those posts. Really really bad.
A few weeks ago someone mentioned that Josh's voice cracked during Glory, and someone was like 'i wisht teh obc was on the tour. adam wouln't crack' o.O
Aw, but Mandi, you quoted the CB rules in response to that stupid "Is Anthony gay?" question, so that makes you a better mod than most
haha. Adam wouldn't crack. Okay.
I know a lot of famous people then, too. hee.

I don't think I like this cover very much. Any thoughts?

Holy crap!
I don't love it, no. I think it's too busy. Simple is good.
Heh, all of the bad spelling and stupid questions would normally make me want to throw things at people, but for some reason it's making me laugh right now.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go count how many famous people I know since I watch them on TV and all.
