Allie, it's not working for me! *people with ears breathe a collective sigh of relief that I am unable to torture them*

Siamese, WORD (and what were you doing, subjecting yourself to IMDB after the rough day you had?)

LOL, nia.

Nia? *patpat* It's okay, we'll help you pull through.

SD, I've met lots of people from BWW, mostly at picnics. Hmm, let's see...BSoBW, wickedrentq, munkustrap, Emcee, zepka, Alix, zippyjen, angelic, and, well...lots of other people who fit more in the over 25 crowd.

We should start BWW day at shows in the summer or something. It'd be more fun to have people to go with that actually cared. The Rent tour is coming to Wilmington DE for a weekend in April which is only an hour from my house and nobody wants to go. Thank God For Adam

I really wish I could be in New York with you guys.

*sighs*

This is evil of me, but I sort of dislike the whole bww meet-up thing. I feel like I'm losing you all a little bit to the 'real world' friendships. There's just something you can't really duplicate online- or so I hear.

"(and what were you doing, subjecting yourself to IMDB after the rough day you had?)"

Hah! I have this cycle of sorts that I'm constantly subjecting myself to during my online time consisting of checking various message boards including this one, CB/IMDB (for whatever reason), and forums for other fandoms. I also compulsively check my LJ friends page. I'm constantly loading these pages. It's sad in general, but even more pathetic considering I'm not a fan of most of the people on some of those sites!

Elphie, that's pretty cool. Just out of curiosity, do your parents know that you're meeting people you met online? I personally think it's awesome (as long as one uses common sense, of course), but I know for a fact that my parents would chastise me if they found I out I post on message boards, much less meeting someone from them.

Edit: Damn, I'm so lost! I guess that's what I get for missing out on months of inside jokes. Thank God For Adam

SD~Yeah, my parents know. They are fine with it, because they know I'm careful. I mean, sometimes they are a little paranoid, like when my mom *had* to talk to Emcee on the phone before I could stay with her, or when she told me not to go anyplace *alone* with iflitifloat (we were seeing a show). Other than that, they are really cool about it.

Siamese, we've actually discussed that a lot in the past--my mom was okay w/ it, very nervous, but knows everything I do and now that she knows i've met so many awesome people and one BWWer even stayed over a couple days, she's totally cool w/ it. However, lots of other parents understandably wouldn't be, so I also know a lot of ppl who have never mentioned anything to their parents about BWW or meeting people, again understandable, but they can tell you more about that.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, although I've seriously gotten away from my cycle over winter vacation. Which is kinda bad, considering I'm a moderator at some of the message boards I haven't checked in a while.

"I personally think it's awesome (as long as one uses common sense, of course), but I know for a fact that my parents would chastise me if they found I out I post on message boards, much less meeting someone from them."

Same here. If my parents knew that I've met 3 people from message boards, or that I've had message board friends mail stuff to my dorm, I would be in deep s**t.

Elphie, what I thought was funny was that your mom waited til like two days before you were coming to check and make sure you weren't staying with an axe murderer. Thank God For Adam

My real life friends think it's just the coolest thing ever.

I don't think my mother would feel the same way, sadly. I did have one meet-up with an internet friend, from CB. I just told Mom I was "meeting some people" and didn't go any further into detail that that.

I would think that, once you're an adult, meeting someone from a message board can't be that much more dangerous than meeting random strangers on the street, provided that you know them well and are certain that they are who they say they are and are careful about it. My parents wouldn't have a bit of problem with it now, but when I was in high school they wouldn't have been crazy about the idea.
