OMG. Okay. Here’s the story! And you must read it all! LOL
THE SHOW: AMAZING. As most of you already know, the first time I saw DRS, I saw it with Joe instead of Norb. So, lemme just say…I’m SO glad that I got to see Norb perform this time, because…he was AMAZING. Sorry Joe, I love you so much, but…NORB WAS PERFECT. SO GOOD! And he DESREVED THAT TONY!!!
The beginning didn’t have much energy, especially from the audience. But, of course, as the show went on…it GREW and GREW and GREW!
So, I totally missed Greg’s entrance. It’s right at the beginning, so I suddenly see him, and I’m just like, “damn. I missed my chance to clap.”
BUT, omg, when Norb entered, you know…he kinda looks off to the side at first, so he doesn’t say anything yet. So, I CLAPPED because…well…THE MAN had entered!…and guess what? Nobody else did! I was the only one clapping! But, then 5 seconds later, SOMEONE ELSE starts clapping and then the whole theater joins in! I was so mad. Even the guy sitting next to me noticed. Oh, well. That’s okay BECAUSE…
I started the clap for “the bushes of tex were nervous wrecks b/c their son was dim.” NO LIES! Wohoo! I
also started the clap after Norb sings “I still believe, we deserve a hand!” I was also woohooing my head off!! I’ve never started a clap for anything before, so that was fun!
I clapped and whooed after every song. Except for “Love Sneaks In,” cuz, you know, it’s too beautiful for verbal cheering!
OMG…you know how every night something funny happens? OMG, OMG, OMG. LMBO. You know, during the beginning, after Lawrence introduces Jolene, he’s like, “you have to whoo her” ect, ect, and then she runs off stage? (and John throws some flowers off stage with her, or something?) Well…haha, as Sara’s getting off, she grabs the flowers, and then we hear a
LOUD thunk. And everybody’s like…
”WHAT was that?” Then I saw that Sara had somehow, while grabbing the flowers, also pulled of John’s ring! So, the RING flew up into the sky and towards the front of the stage and landed right by John’s feet! I started laughing HYSTERICALLY, and so were John and Norb! And, so, after a few seconds of giggles, John picks it up, and turns to Norb and says,
“Excuse me. I seemed to have lost my jewel.” And then, since John said “jewel,”
NORBERT STARTS LIFTING UP THE BOTTOM OF JOHN’S JACKET, AND LOOKING AT JOHN'S CROTCH! LMAO! OMG. That was AMAZING. Hahahahahaha. I could NOT stop laughing! Then John started checking if anything was “missing” in Norbert’s crotch area, too! And the both of them were laughing soo much! (not to mention..the whole audience was too!) That was when the energy started to really grow. It was priceless. It was wonderful. It was classic. It was…perfect! Haha, they have AMAZING improv skills! LOL!!
Also, during DIRTY ROTTEN NUMBER, while Lawrence is singing—I dunno if he does this all of the time, but, Norb just started laughing really, really hard. I dunno if it was a Freddy response or a Norbert response! Whatever, it was cute!
And then, after Dirty Rotten Number ended, the WHOLE AUDIENCE was clapping for about 20 seconds, and then…
WE ALL GAVE THEM A STANDING OVATION! It lasted for about a minute, so while that was happening, Norb was pointing at John. And John was waving down his hand, making the “oh, stop it!” motion. It was amazing. The amount of energy the audience had was sooo good, expecially at that point. I was hooting and hollering, and my uncle was whistling. I loved that moment. And that song really did deserve the standing ovation that it got!
Another thing. Joanna actually changed the melody with the lines, “of the future who can tell, though we hope it turns out well…” Well, she might’ve been doing it for a while, but after listening to the recording so much, I got used to hearing the original version.
Greg was PERFECT, as always. I loved the “like zis/like zat” sequence. I can see why he always shaves for joanna. But more about that later!
Then, it’s time for the final bow. The ensemble comes out, and I YELL out, “YEAH, ANDREW!” haha. Then, when Greg and Joanna came out for the final curtain, my uncle and I JUMPED out of our seats and started hollering and clapping, and screaming. I was screaming out, “YEAH GREEEG!” We were the only ones who stood up (at least from what I saw in the mezzanine) for those two, but, whatever. It felt GREAT. And, of course, when Joe rides out with the “fin” bike, I yelled out, “GO JOEEE!” haha. And, someone who said this was right, Jo and Greg did dance together until the curtain fell! So cute!
So, THE BEST PART, guys! BACKSTAGE STORY! Tehe! Well, my uncle and I head for the backstage door…and omg, I approach the area, and I SEE ANDREW ASNES COME OUT! I had just turned the corner, too, so, I continue walking towards the back stage area, and then I go up to him, put on my brave face, and say, “Mr. Asnes?” He looks at me. So, he says, “Are you Jamie?” I’m in TOTAL shock. “Yes.” He shakes my hand. Then, he holds up his other hand, which is holding an ENVELOPE, which I happened to recognize! “Here, I wanted to give this to you in person, instead of mailing it.” OMG. It was the SASE I sent him before! I ask, “Could I have a picture with you?” He responds with, “Why don’t we do it inside?” OMG, I was freaking out. I didn’t even need to tell Kevin (who was not out yet) that I was here! So, he opens the door and brings us back stage!
ANDREW ASNES WENT
OUTSIDE AND
WAITED FOR ME!! HE WAITED FOR ME!! AND PERSONALLY BROUGHT ME INSIDE! I was on cloud nine. Omg, you guys cannot believe how happy I was. I felt so special. And not to mention ecstatic!
So, we go up the stairs and go on stage. As we get up there, Sherie’s off to the side talking to somebody! (so, I saw her! Up close!) But, of course, I didn’t want to ask her for a picture or autograph because I know she’s a busy gal. And then, NORBERT walks across the stage! I said, “Hi, Norb!” He smiled!! And then he left. So, anyways, I say to Andrew (aka dancing god!), “THANK YOU SO MUCH for remembering me!” And he said, “Well, I remembered you were coming, so I thought I could meet you outside”. So, then Andrew says, “where should we take a picture? Hmm…..how bout we get some PALM TREES in the background?” he starts pulling at the palm trees, trying to move them out onto the stage for our picture. I said, “WHAT? Are you SERIOUS? You don’t have to do that!” Geeze, he’s so nice! So, he gives up, and says, “well, the background scenery seems better.” Me, “yeah. Sure!”. So, we take a picture. Omg, he was so nice. And, he touched me! It felt nice to have his arm around me! I didn’t want to touch him, though. I felt like he was too valuable to touch. So, I kinda just put my arm near his back. But I didn’t touch it. LOL. I regret that, now.
So, afterwards, he’s like, “Have you seen Greg yet?” Me, “no, not yet.” So, he’s like, “this is the theater.” He explained some stuff about the rotating floor. But I forgot most of it, cuz, I was in a daze. Then, I said, “You did really, really well today! I LOVED your last outfit, with the bling, bling!” He smiles, and says, “Actually, I’m supposed to be a bodyguard, so they originally wanted me in a tuxedo suit. But, I said, no, because guards are supposed to be dressed all out in the velour and bling.” I was laughing. But, he was so nice. We chatted for a bit, and then Greg comes up, so, he’s like, “oh, he’s here.” Then Andrew’s like, “well, I’m gonna go now. Good luck with the things that you do in the future, and I hope you make it.” Something like that. I didn’t remember exactly what he said because I was way too excited that he actually remembered who I was, and what my plans for the future were! It was amazing. I love Andrew Asnes so much. So, I say, “thank you! Thank you SOO much!” He has an amazing smile, ladies. *sigh* I wanted to give him a hug, but again, that “valuble-ility” thing. OMG, you cannot believe how happy I was!!
Well, anyways, after he left, I met three other people who were also going backstage with us. Greg introduced me to them. I remember one was Ryan; he also posts on BWW, so look out for him! So, anyways, Greg asks me if I’ve seen the show before. And I said, “oh, YEAH!” and he kinda laughed at the way I said it. And I told him how I saw it with Joe Cassidy. And he’s like, “well, he’s really good.” And I said, “yes, he was really, really good.” And Greg said, “well, at least you got to see Norbert this time!” Yup, yup. So, he starts the tour. He shows us the “dog” that you hook the sets into and that’s what makes it move around. He also showed us the many monitors located in the audience and backstage that broadcast the conductor. He also talked about the AMAZING lighting, and how more than a dozen lights can go off at one second or something like that. Again, I don’t remember EVERYTHING he said, because I was in way too much amazement for my good. He showed us all of the CRYSTALS and stuff that was on every single prop and set! You know that cruise ship in the background in the first act? The lights on it are crystals! Actually, the whole entire set is decorated with crystals! And the “Costco umbrella” as he called it, was decked out in sparkles. He called it “Liza Manelli’s” dress or something! Too funny! And the side walls, he also showed us, were covered in like, BILLIONS of these crystal thingies! And you don’t even see all of it, cuz it’s all of to the side! I mean, the DETAIL that goes into all of this stuff is amazing! He was saying how when the shipped it out from CA to here, about a half of a whole entire garbage bag of crystals had fallen out. So, the set people were cursing and stuff! LOL. And then, he showed us the prop shelf. I took a close look and SAW THE RUPRECT FERRET! Oh man, it was awesome. He also showed us the staircase, and how the sets get pulled up. And then, he also showed us the staircase/ladder that the actors use to get onto the balcony and the stairs in Lawrence’s house. As Kay mentioned before, he showed us the box that says, “Greg’s jewelry!” LOL. He’s like, “I try not to take any offense with this….but I think they did it to help out wardrobe.” Right. Lol. So, then, he asks, “oh, does anybody want a picture?” So, of course, our two groups took each other’s pictures! And, then, right before we were bout to leave, I gave him PART of his birthday present, because…sadly….his present was SUPPOSED to come into the mail today, but it DIDN’T. So, I told him that, and he’s like, “oh, you didn’t even need to get me one!” and I was like, “well, it may be 27 days early, but here,” I hand it over to him, “it is the prerequisite. Is it okay if I just mail your real present later on?” and he said that was fine.
Anyways, so, we say goodbye. Well, actually, Greg said he was gonna go back to his dressing room first. But, he showed us the door. (so, I never got to see his dressing room! Which is fine!) and, miracle upon miracles, he first shakes ryan’s hand, then my uncles, and then…he reaches for my hand, says, “nice to finally meet you, Jamie!” and then…KISSES ME ON THE CHEECK! OMG, all that shaving pays off, baby! His cheeks were SO SOFT AND SMOOTH! Haha, I GOT A KISS FROM GREGORY JBARA! MY LIFE IS COMPLETE! LOL! AND…he remembered my name! I was in total happiness!
So, as I’m going out the door, I turned to him and said, “have a good night! Thank you!” and then we leave! OH, man, tonight was the most amazing night of MY LIFE. Better than any of my birthdays or Christmases or holidays combined. NOTHING could beat what happened today!
And, of course, as we all go out, I chatted with Ryan. He’s a pretty cool guy, girls. And he’s liking BWW! I said that I’d give him a shutout earlier, so…HI RYAN! Please post and remind me of all of the things that Greg talked about during the tour that I forgot!
So, anyways, we all say goodbye, and my uncle and I are walking down the street. So, I think…perfect opportunity to open the letter from Andrew! OMG, girls, I am in Heaven. First off…his headshot is very, very beautiful! (lol) and secondly, he wrote me a really,
*really* nice letter back. <3 <3 <3
That’s it. Andrew Asnes is my number one favorite ensemble member. Ever. And Greg is my number one favorite Broadway featured actor. The end! (for now! If I remember anything else, I’ll post it up here later!) Night, all!
