Regarding the garden party theme... i was really surprised that they did this challenge so "late in the game"... i would have expected this to be more of a qualifier than last season... but... i REALLY liked Santino's and Daniel's was beautiful as well.... i have no idea why Nick is there over Andrae although I love Nick as a person.
Santino's Tim Gunn impression is to die for... if you go on the website there's a video of him doing Closer by NIN... absolutely hilarious

I agree with Torch, I thought it was a pretty bizarre challenge...kind of vaguely defined, with no time to think or plan, and precious little time to execute. I mean, it *was* interesting, but I'm not sure I'm all that comfortable with it being a reason for elimination this late in the game.
On the other hand, from what I can tell from the previews about next week's challenge, it's going to get even stranger.
My god, I love this show. How odd, considering my sense of "fashion" hasn't much changed in thirty years.

Posted: 2/2/06 at 1:08pmIffie, to me the joy of the show is the interaction (good and bad) of creative people and the process. Not so much the final dress.

Oh, I agree. I'm just surprised that I ever took the time to watch it in the first place. And what a loss *that* would have been.
They've done a magnificent job of illuminating each person's personality and how they think. And they've even avoided the temptation to pigeonhole anyone. Even Santino has moments of likeability. And even Andrae, after starting off as a charicature, of sorts, really developed into someone I understood and cared about.

I'm getting a little sick of Nick's drama queen theatrics....so you lost your model, MOVE ON!
Last night's episode was kinda dull for me, although Kara's lovely outfit was a real surprise.....Dan is clearly--and rightfully---the one to beat.

Am I correct in hearing Santino say in a clip that he'd better win this one so that he'd be immune next week and can do anything to outrage the judges he wanted? Yes, I'm right and wouldn't you think that he did his best work whatsoever with the garden party? Well, if that's the best he can do, he's out of there. I agreed with the door mat dress, loved Chloe's for the workmanship but not for overall appearance-it worked, but I preferred the more obvious garden party ones. can't remember who did what now, but I loved the one that was the winner-the one that incorporated flowers, right? Well, the colors on that dress blew me away. I just loved the fuscia and purple against the green! I also loved the ones that had the basket weaving effect on the bodice. One of them had it in the back and the other in the front.
I have to hand it to these designers-it wasn't easy making dresses from plants and so many of them were good!

I agree that Dan is the front runner here. I was really worried about Chloe, but her dress I actually loved! I think it was genius the way the leaves blended into the pattern that it did.
I wanted to slap Nina Garcia everytime she brought up the "lack of use of flowers" - if that's what you want, then freakin' make it part of the concept of the challenge.
I am sad that Andre is gone, but his was indeed the weakest of the lot. And this challenge was not as bizarre as the one in the first season when they took them to the Supermarket, that was truly odd.

i agree that this episode came a little late in the contest, seems like a beginning challenge (like the grocery store last season).
but i loved, loved, loved daniel v., chloe, and kara's dresses -very swank (but the leaf skullcap on chloe's model, ick). nick and andrae, what happened?
there's no model drama this season like there was last year with morgan the maniac model, she was classic trash.
so predix on the Final 3? i think Daniel V (definitely!), Nick, Chloe? (Santino has to get eliminated next challenge)

Posted: 2/3/06 at 11:47amI am so happy Andre is gone, about time too. I really loved Chloe's dress and I wish she would've won but oh well. Daniel wins again of course. I think he's very talented and all but you gotta remember what happened to Kara Saun last season. She was also winning all the challenges and ended up losing. I'm just curious to see how well Daniel does in the final 3.

Posted: 2/3/06 at 12:06pmIsn't the next challenge a head to toe makeover of one of the other designers? It's difficult to predict how *that* will shake out. This damn show has made me look forward to Wednesdays.

I actually loved Austin's cornhusker dress. It's probably been my favorite through the entire series.
And I'm kinda hating Nick right now. Lose the Hilton speeches!
I really thought it was Kara Janx leaving this time, but guess not.
Did anyone watch Andrea on the Today Show? I slept in.

Posted: 2/3/06 at 5:08pmI really think that Santino would beat Nick to the final three... nick really has lost his desire to be there and this past challenge his garment was AWFUL
#190re: The Official Project Runway Season 2 Thread
Posted: 2/3/06 at 5:12pmI don't see a reason for Santino to remain any longer. He hasn't really put out a decent thing since the first one (that must have been a fluke) and his attitude is tired. At least Nick has some modicum of talent.

Posted: 2/3/06 at 5:35pmwhat about the nicky hilton dress? i thought Santino's was above and beyond what tired outfit nick put on his model.... i really think that Santino is just much more talented and has much more drive than Nick

Posted: 2/3/06 at 5:37pmI agree HT - Nick has even said out loud in the workroom he no longer wants to be there. I can't wait to see who and how Santino gets made over.

Posted: 2/5/06 at 11:02pmEven though his dress was pretty ucky, I really wish Andrae could have stayed... Kara is really getting quite annoying. I never liked her much, but the Barbie hat fiasco sealed the deal for me.

Andrae's garden dress was a fluke. It was bad. But everything else he did was quite nice. I think there are less talented designers in the pack. He should still be there.
Overall, I actually liked Andrae, Kara and Daniel V. the best. Now that Andrae is out, I think Daniel V., Kara will make it to the final three, and the last of the final three is going to be a draw.
Santino's problem is that he is inconsistent. Some stuff is wonderful, other stuff is downright weird.
My only issue with Nick is that he uses the SAME neckline in every garment - otherwise, he is OK, except sometimes things are a bit 80s-inspired for my taste. I loved his Barbie dress, though.
Chloe's stuff is very "pretty" and girly which is more mainstream, but different from what we usually see on this show. Some stuff borders on "seen it before." Although she does a good job making sure her designs fit the model. Her stuff is very clean and finished.

Posted: 2/6/06 at 3:28pmI would be shocked if Kara made it to the final 3. I'm shocked she's still in the game. Her outfits are so bland.

Posted: 2/6/06 at 4:03pmThe way I see it - Santino will be out this week. He still does his own thing, and they (the judges)have called him on it time and again. Dan has Immunity, so I think the final three will be Nick, Chloe and Dan.

Nick is getting on my nerves. Did anyone know he was 38? Wow. He acts a lot younger than that.
I'm starting to like Dan with every episode.
#198re: The Official Project Runway Season 2 Thread
Posted: 2/6/06 at 4:06pmI agree and hope we're right. Santino had his last chance to prove himself last week and he even said he's going to put out something great so that he'd have the immunity and look what he put out as his best! that varnished plant arrangement.

Anyone else seeing the Condi 2008 Vote Here box at the top of the screen? Ew.
Back on topic, my favorite garden dress was Nicks. I wish people used more flowers. There's a cover photo of Nicole Ritchie on something and she's wearing a dress made of roses. It made me think of the episode.
