I may have been laughing, but if I was, it was not at you! I've done the phone thing a number of times in the past, so I totally understand that it's really exciting.

what happened with the phone thing?
Now I want to go back. The Bobby/Kathy scene is probably one of my favorites in the show (along with the 'only problem with being married is...' line), I just love the way he looks at her.
When I did it, you mean? I was young, so don't judge! Heh. When I was in high school, my best friend was in the city and I was stuck at home for one reason or another. She's always been my Broadway fangirl partner in crime, for lack of a better term. She'd never met Adam, and so she went to the Aida stage door. She called me, and then asked him if he'd mind talking to her friend. You could tell he'd done it a million times; I was really nervous, but he was so sweet. I basically just told him I really loved his work and stuff. So then, to return the favor, when I went to Raul's Chatterbox (beginning of my first year of college), it was her birthday -- so I asked him to talk to her, and he did.

If this were just a panel discussion, I would go in a heartbeat, but I don't really do probably-awkward social events.

That's amazing, luvtheEmcee! Were you one of those people laughing?
oh no, I wanted to know what you were laughing at - I thought something happened at the show.
Yeah, Adam does do lots of fan phone calls - theres so many pics of him on people's cell phones, hehe.
*edit just saw your last post - I would go, too. So they are just answering questions from the moderator?
Oh, I have no idea what I was laughing at. My friend and I met a really nice kid from out-of-town at the stage door, and we were all just talking.
Pretty much; it's not so much an interview as like, a guided discussion.

Okay, I definitely did not see those two posts on the last page about the whole cell phone thing - I'm sorry! I swear they werent there last time I read this thread.... didn't mean to sound like an airhead, sorry lol
That thing isn't too expensive, but I dont know if its worth it to go or not. hmm..
so did you get a new stagedoor picture last night?
Posts have been falling into limbo a lot lately, heh.
I was thinking about it, but I didn't want to keep him. I do want a new one at some point, though.
I cannot BELIEVE that I am still in school. Ridiculous.
BUT, in less than two weeks I'll be in NYC and, hopefully, will have seen Company again (and dragged my entire family, of course).
Let's hear it for the Sioux City Journal, and especially for staff writer Bruce R. Miller, and I quote: "Esparza gets one of those chill-inducing moments that carries "Company" to a new level. He's a shoo-in for this year's Best Actor Tony and a sure bet for Broadway immortality." WOW!
I have to say, I think it's a little far-fetched to call him a shoo-in. There IS competition and I am definitely nervous. I think it's fair to say he absolutely deserves it, but... perhaps kind of cocky to say you "know" he's going to get it. It's not that sure, I don't think. I saw him the other night, and I was trying to figure out what to say. I wanted to be honest with him, so I didn't say "oh, you're going to win it!" I told him he deserves it, and that I've got my fingers crossed for him.
I absolutely agree, em. I was surprised to see such enthusiasm from Iowa, I guess. And I think the only person more superstititious than you and I would be Raul! It was the "Broadway immortality" remark that I loved.
Yeah, I like that phrase too.
I'm not particularly superstitious, I just don't want to get my hopes up terribly high, and I felt like I might... feel sort of guilty if I wasn't honest, or just saying things for the sake of stroking his ego. I'm sure he doesn't give a damn what I told him, though.

well, you dont know if thats true, I'm sure he loves fans/friends opinions and input.
Did anyone see the Times this weekend with that spread on the Critics' picks for the Tonys? I was pleasantly surprised that two out of three predicted Company would win, and all predicted Raul would win. I guess its not that surprising tho, considering the Times seems to have supported the show since its opening. That makes me happy, but again - I'm superstitious too. Still nice to see, tho
He likes to have his ego stroked. (At this point, all Tony mentions are probably just the same to him!)
That's interesting about the critic's picks. I hope they're right. I assume they vote?

at the Tony's? I'm not sure how it works. It would be exciting to return to the show and have it be a Tony Award winning musical, but again, I'm not going to jinx it. And I'm going back multiple times anyway!
its interesting that one critic predicted 110 would win, even though Company "should win." I didnt even think that show was giving it competition, but now I'm even more curious to see it on Tuesday
I think 110 is probably its only legit competition. I also think it will win. I haven't seen it yet, but it's traditional -- that's gonna win out. Sure, there are people who might vote for Company because they think Sweeney was cheated out last year, but I don't think that's enough to beat out the people who think Doyle's a gimmick. Surely there are even more of those than there were last year.
He was great in Company & I am pulling for him next week

That's true, and unfortunate. At least they gave Company the "should win" vote - but I'm glad I'm going to see it before the Tonys
What a long day Wednesday is going to be - Regis and Kelly at 9, then the Alley thing at 11 am, followed by two shows. Set up the IVs right away and bring on the coffee and Dunkin Donuts!
Are they sending him to Stars in the Alley?
I want to go, but I hate crowds of fangirls (which, if Spring Awakening is performing, there are sure to be) and I think I have to work.

wait, whats this Alley thing?
Broadway Legend Joined: 2/18/07
cool, thanks! I have work until the afternoon tho
oh well
I don't know for a fact whether Raul will be at Stars in the Alley - I suppose they could send Barbara Walsh or the trio of girl friends (as they did to Barnes & Noble in February) - so maybe he gets at least a few minutes off to catch his breath!
I was planning to go but then when I heard that they set up VIP sections at the front there is no point in standing around waiting for 90 minutes to be farther away than I am in the theater!
