I just got tickets to go today. Between now and closing is up in the air, though.
And yeah, the Actors' Fund ones.
Two weeks and counting. Very sad.
Indeed.
I bought my ticket yesterday for it. I'm in Row K of the orchestra, seat 10.

It's too bad that I haven't met more of you in person - whenever I go I'm like "I wonder who's from bww?" heh
My seat is in Row D for the 1st
This morning during church, I was thinking about the Cabaret revival (don't ask how it came to mind during church, heh). I was trying to come up with actors I'd like to see as the Emcee that weren't in the last revival. There really aren't that many to pick from; there's this a huge generation gap in Broadway actors, where they're either too young or too old. Raul was 30ish when he first played him and I can't think of a single actor that age on Broadway now that could take on that role. And I think a lot of the mainstream stuntcast actors that have come up in that age range (Joey Lawrence, Usher, etc.) would be hesitant to take on the controversial role. I'd hate for them to revive it only to drag in all the same actors as the last go-round, because it's too good of a role for that.
I would definitely hope that they go for some new blood when casting the Emcee after Alan. Hmmm. There actually don't seem to be that many 30-something well-known actors who strike me as really good for the part (who haven't already played it). I'm really at a bit of a loss! One benefit of the part is that it's so otherworldly that you're not really confined to one age range. Some of the previous Emcees could surely reprise their roles -- but like you said, if they're reviving the revival, they should change up the casting a bit. Now that I'm thinking about it...god, I love that show. I can't wait to actually see it.
Actually, since you mention Joey Lawrence, I could definitely see him, if he'd do it.

So Alan is definitely not coming back? The last I heard they were still speculating.
Have you guys seen Joey Lawrence in Chicago?
I would love for them to find someone who is fairly unknown and really outstanding as the Emcee, but who knows.
Also, does anyone know when its actually coming back? I'm so excited for this show, I've been listening to my 4 cast albums for the past weeks on rotation, hehe
I saw Joey in Chicago on Wednesday. He's cute and has a good stage presence but his singing is so-so. He was good enough for the few songs of Chicago, but i could not see him handling Cabaret!
So, is the box office officially selling Student Rush tickets whenever you get there now?
I'm not sure, misschung, but my post was assuming that if he does, the show will continue to run after he leaves and there'll be replacements.
Heh, good to know, Tink. I really don't know much about him, but I guess I was assuming that he was a better singer than he is.
I couldn't imagine Joey Lawrence in Cabaret. Every time I see him, I still think of Blossom's older brother...
They are considering Alan Cumming, but I was talking about future replacements.
Eh, Joey Lawrence. I only mentioned him because there was a Chicago ad in my sidebar. I'd rather not see him as the Emcee. Not that the role is that esteemed after Jon Secada, but I've just always disliked him and would want him as far from a show I like as possible.
Michael Cerveris was the first that came to my mind. Probably because I was looking at his Hedwig pictures last night and it's an easy jump from one black leather get-up to another. But I wonder if he would want to at this point in his career.
I just don't think a lot of the younger leading men are mature enough to carry a whole show the way the Emcee needs to.
Definitely fair. I really have no feelings towards Joey as a performer, but I guess I was mainly thinking physically. Cerveris would've been really interesting, but I think he's past that point in his career, just in terms of the fact that I don't see him having to replace anyone. Same with Raul, really.
Incidentally, I once had a dream involving Michael Cerveris and Cabaret. Someone else was the Emcee, but Michael was narrating the show (I think because he was the narrator for a Chess concert I've heard) -- in the nude. ....Yeah, I don't know.
We're not ignoring your question, Elphie, I just don't think that any of us know!

That's an interesting dream! I love Hedwig.
I can't wait to hear who is cast for this. Do they have any ideas for who will play Sally? I feel like the Emcee is tough because he needs to carry the show, but also be capable of making the audience feel like we're peeking at something we're not supposed to - you know? I'm not sure I know how to describe it.
This rush thing is really getting on my nerves. It seems like you can go really early for no reason, or on time and risk having 20 people in front of you. arg
Michael Cerveris dreams. Mmmmm.
But that's exactly what I meant about whether he would want to be the Emcee. He COULD do it- which is more than I can say for a lot of actors out there now- but I don't think he's actually replaced a role since Hedwig.
I wonder if they'd consider a black Emcee. There's no reason not to; it is historically accurate (and even moreso than Cuban Emcees).

hmm, that's interesting. Do you think if they did that, they would have other black cast members as well?
Has that ever been done?
That'd be nice. I mean, pre-WW2 Berlin actually was more diverse than it was portrayed in the last revival, so they can't cry historical accuracy as an excuse, heh. There's no reason why the cast (the Kit Kat Klub especially) can't be more racially diverse.
But who would you be thinking about if they were to "diversify" the Emcee role??
Elphie - the rule as of now is 3 hours prior to curtain - it appears that they've been sticking to it lately.
I didn't really have anyone specific in mind, Tink. I think it came about from speculating if in fact Usher *could* be stuntcast as the Emcee. But actually, it would be interesting to see what someone like Darius de Haas could do with the role.
Do you think they will want each replacement to take on their own version of emcee like last time, each having their own identity, or just stick to imitating Alan's?
You mean physically? I'd hope they wouldn't get stuck in a rut of white male, dyed black like last time. I didn't mind the uniformity, I guess, I just wish they could branch out a bit more in the actors they'd allow in the production.
not just physically, but yes that too. I meant more of Raul had his own interpretation, Adam his, etc. Some more dark, some more giddy, etc. Which gave each performance set a different feel. But since they are trying to make money, and obviously Alan's interpretation sold well, will they just try to stick to that.
I didn't get to see the show other than boots, so I am working more off of the many article/reviews/word of mouth I've read.
Hey Em - how was Sunday's performance? Good audience, I hope.
