These posts about Cary Shields are cracking me up.
Has anyone heard if tomorrow is sold out or not? My friend decided last minute she wants to come with me.
I don't think tomorrow is sold out, dancing. Two of my friends just got tickets (rear mezz, but still).
Yeah, I finally got telecharge to stop being weird. It's not sold out.
jeez...i was lying in bed and I realized that I hadn't seen my tickets for the show today while I was looking for my metrocard and freaked out..but then I found them and my heart is still racing
Not sure why I'm still awake.
Yeah same here.
I have to get up at a normal hour, too. I have a bunch of errands to run while I get ready for the show.

Not sure why I am either. I think I'm still freaked out about the walk from the subway stop to my building. Not that this is of any particular interest, but the downtown 1 train became an uptown train at 14th St. (I usually get off at the next stop), so I had to attempt to navigate the Greenwich Village streets at 2 AM by myself. Surprisingly, everything was fine until I got to sketchy 6th Ave. and Washington Square Park. I got so many weird looks from these little packs of thug-looking guys, and I freaked the hell out. I seriously can't wait to move.
But ANYWAY! Company closing tomorrow... or rather today. Seems like the last week went really fast. As everyone knows, I was never as attached to the show as many here (although I first saw it back in November, so don't be hating, girlies), but it was an enjoyable production of a much better caliber than most of what is on Broadway. Even if I wasn't entirely sold on the concept, Broadway would be better if more directors were like Doyle in taking chances and bringing refreshing changes to old material. I hope everyone enjoys the show tomorrow.

eek, that's scary! I'm glad you made it home safely, though.
This week flew. I knew it would, but still. Meep.
Okay, bed. :/
Siamese dream - walking alone anywhere at night is pretty scary. Hope your move puts you in safer territory.
Your second paragraph is eloquently stated. I am concerned about the coming age of mindless fluff backed by huge advertising budgets. But at least we'll always have Paris, ah, er...COMPANY.

That's unnerving, Siamese. A few days ago, several of us were walking back from a show after midnight, and we were silently observed by little clusters of men hanging around. Weird.
And your last paragraph is very much appreciated. Even if you weren't personally compelled by Company, I'm glad you still found merit in the motivations behind the production and its "swim against the tide" position.
Isherwood focused on Company (including a picture) in the New York Times week ahead section: "If musical theater is your thing, head over to the Ethel Barrymore Theater to catch the final birthday party for Bobby, the chronically ambivalent bachelor in the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical "COMPANY." Mr. Sondheim is of course the pre-eminent chronicler of ambivalence in American musical theater, which goes some way to explaining his mixed commercial track record on Broadwya, where complexity is more hindrance than help. In this musical comedy from 1970 he writes with piercing insight about the rocky road paving the way to emotional fulfillment. John Doyle's production won the Tony award for best revival, but the galvanizing central performance by Raul Esparza was criminally overlooked. He is considered by many to be the best Bobby the show has ever seen."
I read the Playbill blurb about the PBS telecast. Performers in a TV airing of a play are eligible for Emmys - I don't know if that is good news or bad news.

What time is everyone going today? I'm going to get there a little bit early if I can.
Siamese - where do you live? That is really scary, I'm glad you made it home okay.
Well, they're eligible; who knows if they'll have a shot in the dark at a nod.
I'm lazy and tend not to get to shows too early anymore; usually 10 or a quarter of, so I'll aim for like 2:30 today.
I'll have to get a copy of the Times. I have insane packrat tendencies, and love to save newspaper clippings and stuff; I have the majority of the Rent film press nicely tucked away, and I kept the final ads for Cabaret and Aida when they closed... among other things. I want to keep that piece, too, as perhaps Company's last newspaper coverage.
Hah, I have a drawer stuffed full of Company coverage and ads, not to mention these piles from Rent and the end of Aida. I think I need a new system.
My desk is covered in Playbills and the odd ticket stub from the past few weeks. I also have little Bobbys peeking out from various corners of my little paper storage thing. I saved a lot of the mailers and flyers and stuff. I saved the Times review, Raul's Times interview, the issues of The Sondheim Review dedicated to the transfer, Elle. The only thing I never managed to get my hands on, I think, was Vogue.

Do you mean 2 AM? Because I honesty have no idea what you would think is sketchy about Greenwich Village at 2PM on a Saturday. Heck it's perfectly safe at 2AM as well.
Heh, I'm assuming she meant 2am, considering she posted at 3am. And I don't think a girl on her own at 2am and running into a group of guys alone on the street is ever perfectly safe, NYC or Iowa.
For everyone going tonight, have a great time and safe travels! I expect to hear all about after.

Sorry, I definitely meant 2 AM. As I mentioned, I don't think most of Greenwich Village is bad at night at all (from 7th Ave. westward, I'd say), but there's a strip of sex shops/tattoo parlors on 6th Ave. to the west of Washington Square Park that IS sketchy late at night. Of course, WSP itself at night is probably worse. I don't know anything about you, but don't judge until you're a 100-pound girl alone in that position.
Sorry for the digression. Again, I hope everyone enjoys their night.
You know you're overly-preoccupied with the Company closing when the "Photo Coverage: York Theatre Company's I and Albert" headline cracks you up. Holler to the people that actually get that.
And I actually owe Albert majorly.

I saw that when I got home and thought maybe it was something on the closing. Then I was like wait...no, Katy.
Albert had to carry loads of stuff to the car tonight - boxes, clothes, flowers, Raul's humidifier...
Albert actually didn't scare me today!
...Good old Albert...
OMG, I saw that headline and cracked up.
