Yes - went back today for the fourth time. I think because everyone had the evening off, they put an enormous energy into the matinee. But it was pearls before swine - again a full orchestra, some people in the mezzanine and generally a lot of audience passivity.

Raul was giggly today - more than I have seen before - and it made the poignant scenes very touching. Being Alive remains a landmark performance for me - I cry every time, and apparently some of the cast does, too!

Barbara Walsh was so cutting in Ladies who Lunch, and I watched Bruce Sabath when she was heckling him - he makes Larry so long-suffering and I feel such compassion for him when he explains to Robert why he puts up with it.

Jane Pfitsch was in for Heather Laws who apparently started to cough a lot during Tuesday night's performance. Maybe with a full day off, she will be able to recover more quickly (but with four performances in two days over the weekend, who knows?). Jane was excellent - delivered all the lyrics clearly in "Getting Married Today" and was as crazy and funny as the part demands. She is so young - still in college getting her MFA!

Every time I see this, I am more impressed with the three girlfriends. I got to talk briefly to Kelly Jeanne Grant - lovely and charming.

And what does the cast apparently do with a night off? Go to the theater of course!

Isn't Jane great? I saw her in an early preview and adored her Amy.

Kelly's so sweet; I got to talk with her at the CD signing, and we met again at Kristin's cabaret.

This Fidelity program is inspirational. Don't you wish more corporations would support the arts this way?

But once again - does Raul ever sleep? He seems to have at least one extra-curricular event a day, plus performances.

OCC lunch today!

Meh, sleep is for the weak, Keen! re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

He's in three of the little pictures on the main page at the moment... It's like our very own Broadway "Where's Waldo?' lol.

Call the understudy / I can't go on tonight / I'm drinking with my buddy / I'm getting good and tight / Before they raise the curtain I'll be higher than a kite / So call the understudy I can't go on tonight

Oh my God, I LOVE Where's Waldo!!! I used to play it constantly.

I don't think those actors sleep much at all this time of year, although Raul has always struck me as one of those people who doesn't sleep much to begin with. I have a friend who's an actor and he literally gets lke 4 hours of sleep a night, and yet he functions with complete normalcy. I don't know how he does it. But anyway, I'm friendly with someone who was nominated for a Tony last year, and the entire whirlwind just wipes them out.

I was thinking about it, but I want to be sure I see Coram Boy before it closes, so that's a higher priority right now.

I think I'm going back sometime next week, though. Maybe. The time between the Tony nominations and the actual awards is a really great period in which to see a nominated show - so exciting!

It's conversations like these that make me wish even more that I lived in NYC...only a few months till I move there for school! Yay :)

Hi, haven't been around these parts in a while.

Saw Raul and Michelle last night at a show. They sat just across the aisle and 2 rows back from me. Thought about saying something to him before it started.... congrats on awards and noms, etc....but it was too close to curtain before I realized he was there.
On my way out at intermission to get some air, I passed he and Michelle standing where I guess people would be if there were standing room places. I stopped and congratulated him on his awards, said that I loved Company and him in it, had seen it twice and would go back one more time anyway and wished him luck at the Tonys. He just kept thanking me, was very unassuming, was almost kind of shy and was very sweet. He lit up when I wished him luck at the Tonys.
He's such a cutie! *sigh*

Em - I still think you may have been too tired that night - it takes a fair emotional investment with a story like JE.

I was wiped out and not feeling well, which is unfortunate, but I also think it had something to do with where I was sitting. I was up in the front row of the mezzanine, which is normally a great location in that theater, but because the lighting in JE is so sparse and dark, I had a really hard time seeing the actors' faces... which I think made me feel too distanced from it all. The play made me feel very uncomfortable, and it was that good, theatrical punch kind of discomfort, but I wanted more.

Raul is probablly the nicest guy I've ever meet. His limo was right outside of the stage door after Company and he came out in a tux and talked to me for a good 5 minutes. Amazing. Does he go everywhere in a limo and tux?

To provide you all with a little humor, I read this:

He lit up when I wished him luck at the Tonys.

And thought you meant a cigarette. Oy. I really need to get some more sleep.

Em - I had that thought, too - this, in a smoke-free theater town! Plus - he doesn't smoke, does he? With those vocal chords, I wouldn't think so.

That's why I was confused! Lioness said they were inside... but then I was like "oh, well maybe this was outside?" I dunno. I was tired, heh. He definitely did, which is why that's the way I automatically read it I heard he quit, though, so I read that and just figured he... un-quit.

If he can make it through the next three weeks without "un-quitting," he should be okay.
