Hehe! Funny, but also terribly true. If you look at my favorite actors, musicians, characters, etc., many of them have some sort of darkness or internal struggle. Perhaps people are more interesting when they have demons to battle.

I apologize to all for my lapse in judgement. I should have PM'd my question,

Where I come out, I simply have an extreme admiration of him as a professional. That fact that it is his karma to lead a such a complicated life just adds to his mystique. It's like the fact that the first time I saw him as himself, he was lighting up a cigarette.

I consider it just an interesting historical footnote in what will be a long, distinguished career. I assume others will feel the same, but I probably did not take into consideration any potential impact of what I said for those who might think differently.

One of the chief enjoyments of this thread is being in the company of those who agree with me about him.

So once again, I apologize for crossing a line I probably knew was there.

The much simpler explanation. re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

I don't think you have to apologize, for whatever it's worth, fishdancer. Updated On: 7/15/07 at 11:26 AM

re: Bank of America -- yesterday, Mickey and Minnie were standing outside the one on 54th and Broadway, waving at people. It was really weird.

For heaven's sake, ladies, I'm not censoring or policing. Many of you know me well enough to know I don't think I have any business doing that, and yet I seem to be accused of doing it anyway. If that's what I was trying to do, don't you all think I would have brought this up AGES ago? I don't have a problem with it in general; I think a line was crossed this. particular. time. I think Chrysanthemum's post about the way performers channel personal pain on stage is spot-on: I feel the same way. But in posting about protecting rights to curiosity, it seems that either I was not clear or several misread to think that I'm against the whole spectrum. I don't know how to be much plainer about the fact that I see a very big difference simply in the specificity. He made his situation common knowledge; I'd be an idiot to attempt to place a stamp on the thread that we're only "allowed" to talk about his work. I have no idea why that seems to be the assumption. To accuse me of "policing" when I spoke out about one isolated incident is overreacting, I think. To assume that what I said means I want to keep any talk of his personal life out of this thread as some sort of rule is blowing my comment completely out of proportion.

Nowhere in my posts did I say that I thought all gossip was bad, or that it's not completely human to be interested in actors' personal lives -- especially those of actors whose work we admire. I'm saying that I think there's a line on a public board, and that it's in distasteful judgment to put things like that (SPECIFIC ONES, not gossip, period) on here. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, and someone had to say it. I posted numerous times, trying to make as clear as I could that I'm not trying to make rules and tell people they can only talk about prescribed topics -- that, I think, is plain as day. But that's fine, make me out to be the bad guy because I pulled out my "claws" in the name of a little bit of tactful common sense -- which, if you knew the line existed, is really all this is. Common sense, not "policing." If I'm just going to fall into looking overzealous in my protective naivete, which in fact is the complete opposite of the truth, then I'll keep my mouth shut next time and leave you all to it. By all means, let's cover everything we've missed in three threads, a thousand pages and God only knows how many posts. Top or bottom? Let's just post a list of people in the business that he's supposedly slept with. I'll tell you everything I've heard. Why not? Have at it.

**hands Em a shot of vodka**
**rethinks it, and hands Em the bottle of vodka**

I think we are all on the same side here. It is just easy to misinterpret how and or what someone meant when discussing things on-line.

Now, lets go back to talking about how pretty he is, that is a common thing everyone agrees on here.

I thought I would have killed it.

Granted, I think the assumptions are against common sense -- 'cause like I said, if I really felt strongly enough that people feel the need to stand up for their right to interest, and was really interested in policing, I'd have said something YEARS ago.

It's all good. I keep looking but i can't find any Raul pics from bway barks! I've seen some of others, but not him yet.

But then again, my web browser keeps crashing, so, what can you do!

I'm not sure if he was just there, or if he actually presented. If he presented, then there should definitely be pictures somewhere. BWW usually has a ton from the event, so I'm waiting for theirs. :)

Going back to the discussion on Patti and PWAP, I was reading the NYT article on Travolta, which said this:
--------------------
However he lives his life, his talent seems to exist in a world beyond such concerns.

Interpreting such choices is in any case a tricky business because there is something irregular about stars that made them stars in the first place. Even compared with lesser celebrities, they have a different way of being concerned about reputation, a concern that’s refracted through their roles and parceled out over time. They are less like the hothouse flowers they’re often compared to than like a volcano or an iceberg; whatever their particular temperature, they just do what they do, not thinking much of themselves or of you.
----------------------

Well, yeah, they both may be lesser celebrities to most, but they are stars to me, and I think this is an interesting observation that fits them too.

So what was he wearing yesterday, and what kind of dog did he have?

Funny, I had envisioned him home in Miami with his Mum. My daughters were wandering around there about 5:30, and one of them called me from Shubert Alley and Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette had just walked by her. I would have told them to keep an eye out for him just to get the "Oh, Mom" groan.

I asked on the main board, and someone said he didn't present. But, maybe one of the press photographers got pictures anyway.

I am not attacking anyone, and it shouldn't be interpreted as such. Frankly, I think the whole thing is silly because I was just expressing how much I'm happy to have this thread and how fond I am of him as an actor. Em, if you feel as though I was attacking you in some way, I am sorry you got that impression. Actually, I was thinking about myself, and how I've been one to cross that line a time or two. I understand where you are coming from, and I believe I understand why you are definsive, but I think it's a misunderstanding. I certainly was not giving an open invitation to air out his privat life on this board and I'm not defending anyone who desires to do so... unless "The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love; Thread" is supposed to mean something else entirely.

I am sad to say I have never attended Broadway Barks. I am strictly forbidden because I have wanted a dog my entire life, and I could not resist cute sexy men persuading people to adopt one. I am just not that strong, and would cave in a heartbeat. But Micahel Cerveris and Raul Esparza playing with animals...I have no words to describe the adorable-ness that is.

Oh, no no, I didn't interpret it as an attack at all -- just as a misinterpretation.

Heh, I'm so confused about B'way Barks.. But maybe the person on the main board is too, because now someone says he did. Maybe he was hiding from DHP.

... kidding.

Oh my God, I LOVE Greyhounds. They're gorgeous, amazing dogs. I saw that one, though. It was HUGE.

What an... attractive facial expression.

I'm bummed that I had to leave early. re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

I've always thought he looked a tad bit like Max, a.k.a. Scott Cohen. Especially in this fantasy miniseries my friend made me watch, The 10th Kingdom.
