It is. Definitely. It's just a little ridiculous in that picture.
Double yay.

He should do his hair like that on purpose. Even though it looks like he just rolled out of bed?
It's really amazing -- I've seen the show several times, and even if there are inevitably a handful of moments that don't have ultimate impact after so much viewing, the finale (from Being Alive straight on through) gets me every time. It's not quite like the first time, but nothing will be, I guess. But still, every time, I start shaking and my heart starts racing, and afterwards, I'm just in awe, at an uncharacteristic loss for words.
I still have the book sitting on my desk. For some reason I haven't put it back on my shelf yet. He wrote something really sweet inside it.
Soo, cast recording two weeks from today? I reallyreally need it now.
There is now a picture of me and Raul on my wall.

Elphie, Raul looks adorable in that picture! Love it!
Congrats Em, what'd he say? He seemed really gracious when I asked him to sing mine, he so sweet.
His note thanked me for being supportive and loving the play, etc. I honestly wanted to ask him to sign it just as an ice-breaker and lead in to being able to tell him how much I loved it, since that was coming about two and a half years delayed. I, per usual, shoved my foot clear down my throat in effort to talk to him about it, but I think he got what I was trying to say, and most importantly that the play is very close to my heart. He was really, really cold (being that it was like... nine degrees), and obviously didn't feel like staying to talk about it for as long as he might have on a night with better weather, but he told us about what it was like for him to perform it. Even though he didn't say much and we didn't talk at length, though, I could see so clearly how much he loved it. The best justice I could do for it was try to describe the way I felt after having seen it all that time ago, and it was really cool to have him listen and say "that's how it was for us, too."

That's awesome, I miss the show so much. I want to see it again... Anyone want to send me a plane ticket to NYC? Anyone?
Heh, since we were talking about mothers a bit ago, a moment to share: I was just talking to my mom, and as soon as I mentioned something about Raul (which - long story - pertained to school), she was like "ok, I have to go. Bye!" =/
I finally got around to seeing Company Tuesday night, and while I had some concerns about the production, Raul was just brilliant and really lived up to the hype. Not that I'm suprised, because he's a great performer in general, but his performance was the first male musical theatre performance I've seen in a long time that I can say raises the bar, it's just so special. I actually forgot about the scream, and from then onward, like Elphie said, you can do nothing but shiver from the force of his emotion. Truly an astonishing feat.
Does Raul come out after matinees? Also what time do you suggest getting to the theatre to rush for a saturday matinee. Thanks in advance.
11:00 for a Saturday matinee should be plenty of time, and no, I don't think he does.
He's out of the show this weekend. I don't know why, but if he's sick, I hope he feels better soon!
Aww I hope he's not sick!
Feel better, Raul! If you're sick, that is.
Thank goodness (for me!) that it wasn't last weekend!
I said that (about being glad that he wasn't out when you saw he show) to Emcee when we heard about it, Elphie.
He might be sick, but since we knew that he was going to be out all weekend, maybe he's just taking the time off?
My best guess would be that maybe he's resting his voice from when he *was* sick, now that he has a regular standby and can take the time off.
I'm so nosy.
The second time I saw COMPANY I was particularly struck by "Marry Me A Little." The usual amazing, perceptive Sondheim lyric - Boy, can Raul deliver those words, or what?
It's such a beautiful song, and Raul's delivery of it is fantastc. It's always neck-in-neck with Being Alive for my favorite moment in the show. He talked about the lyrics a little bit in the Times article, and how moving they are, even in their practical simplicity.
I wanna see it agaaaaain.
I'm officially in count-down mode for Company now. It's under 2 months now. All of this enthusiasm is making me impossibly excited.
A little bit off-topic, but still related: I know a lot of the usual suspects on here have already seen these, but Kristin Huffman (who plays Sarah in Company) has a column on BWW in which she posts some stories she's written about her experiences in the business. Kristin has a great sense of humor and it comes right across in her stories. They go up each Friday, so be on the lookout for "ActorQuest" on the main page on Fridays. She's an awesome writer and they're hilarious, so, go check them out and if you like what you see, leave comments -- feedback is important!
Here's this week's. You can get to the others from there, too. I think there are three in total.

This is all so exciting. I love that my Raul Esparza music library keeps growing.
Funny thing...Last night while I was watching Les Mis, and Norm was singing his big number, I thought about Raul singing "Hushabye Mountain" and how it is such a shame to not have a proper recording of him singing that beautiful lullabye. It made me miss Chitty for about three seconds. Yeah, it was fluff. But Raul pretty much could do anything on stage. And that was the fun of it. You never knew WHAT was going to come out of his mouth.
Yay, a track listing! I'm so excited for the cast recording. It's so soon, I can't wait!!

I think I'm going to order this, as my foray into buying things off the internet. It'll be a little more expensive for me in Canada, but it's just so handy that I can send them a money order!
It's probably funny just how excited I am.
