Wow...I'm shocked as well.
We need to start our own committe so we can recognize Mano with an award ourselves.
I don't understand why he wasn't nominated, but I really don't understand how Alex got one over him.

I am definitely not one to judge, as I haven't seen the show or even listened to the entire cast recording (I have heard some songs from it, though!), but I agree with the rest of you - Mano deserves recognition. "Not While I'm Around" and "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" are among the songs that I have heard, and Mano is just, well, brilliant. As Chica said, haunting and beautiful. Listening, I get little chills. I'm so transfixed by the music, the song, the singer's delivery that I don't want to move. I don't want to make a sound, I don't even want to breathe or blink. As I said, I'm not really one to judge, but it's not every actor who can do that!
By the way, Chica, I've read the review of the show with its "changes" that you posted a while ago. All I can say is, if I were only a little more reckless (and weren't going back home this weekend), I would buy a train ticket to New York and a ticket to the show. Right. Now.
I have many comments on this, which I will get to later. I have to go to class now, though. Bleh.

Aww, Fantab and Chica!
I just.... don't understand. Like, I knew that it was overall a brilliant ensemble and that might create some competition, but.... the Beadle just doesn't seem like it should be an award-worthy role. Particularly not when there are great performances as the Judge and (of course) Toby. I honestly remember so much less about Gemignani's performance than any of the others.
And no supporting actress nominations.

Chin up Chica :) I bet he'll get a Tony nom. *Crosses fingers*
I'm surprised that so few of the supporting players in Sweeney are getting nominations (especially Mano, but also Donna Lynne and others). I mean come on, they should be sweeping the awards this season. I don't get what's going on.

Chica, remember - you just said that this in no way diminishes his chances of winning a Tony!
And, if you think about it, do awards *really* matter all that much? It doesn't make him a better or worse actor. It doesn't make us like him more or less. Maybe I'm being naive here, but all an award does is give someone a label, make them the media's darling of the moment. *shrugs* Just my thoughts.

While I'm not personally offended, per se (but it's ok that you guys are!) I'm just... confused. The people who vote for these awards include reviewers, but I guess that's not enough -- I'm just perplexed by the fact that the critics singled out and applauded him, and the awards season turnout isn't lining up with that, at all. It's sad, but moreover, illogical.
IF he gets the Tony nod, this won't matter for sh*t, though.
Even the non-college students are more than silly fangirls.
When I went to see Sweeney many months ago, I knew very little about the show. I knew the basic plot and a few songs. I sat in the first row, and Mano blew me away. I didn't even know his name at the time, but I was SO impressed. It's a layered, nuanced performance that deserves to be recognized
Oh Chica, I so agree about the fact that the notion of "The Mano Fan Club" is completely insulting. It isn't as though we're blindly rooting for him to win an award because we think he's cute.... I'd wager to say that all of us are WAY more mature than that. I guess I'm not up in arms that he wasn't nominated because I had prepared myself for that possibility (although talking to people, it seems a pretty common thing to single out his tragic performance as Toby), but I'm perplexed as to the way the nominations fell. It would have almost made more sense to me if none of the supporting actors from Sweeney were nominated, because I would have almost picked Mano, Mark or even Ben over Alex. I am, of cousre, glad that any of them are getting recognition.
*gives everyone chocolate*

I honestly don't remember much about Alex's performance. He was good, but months later it's Mano I remember. It doesn't make any sense to recognize Alex first.
Mano is cute, but he's also a brilliant actor with a lovely voice. I wouldn't like him nearly as much if it weren't for the latter. Silly fangirl? Only a little.
I'll pay more attention the next time I see it, but his performance didn't stick out to me that much in relation to the rest of the cast. Maybe just because it's such a small role.
I don't think that these will be a good predictor of the Tony awards, but I'm still worried.

I'll pay more attention to Alex next time. I think I didn't notice him as much because I was unfamiliar with his role and still slightly confused about the plot. I'll try my best to be happy for him anyway. :)
I just got Mano mail and I can't tell if it's sarcasm or not...
