1. Saw the show tonight. Amazing, as usual. Patti has a cough.
2. Mano was wearing the raincoat. That's right, the raincoat.
3. I was still in my graduation clothes (a dress, not like a cap and gown or anything). Mano noticed and was really sweet and congratulatory (sp?).
Did you ask him about the raincoat? lol
He actually wears it, like in real life? Oh boy.
I think that makes me love him more.
That is so sadly endearing.
Ooh, Company. I agree with what's being said... Doyle's production is genius. I think that it takes a little while to realize just how brilliant it is, but everything about the staging emphasizes the show's themes in some way. This Company isn't the typical musical comedy... it's still hilarious, but it's got much more of a dark, melancholy side, which I love. I've seen a more conventional production since then, and it just made me appreciate so much more the way that Doyle's production managed to find so much more depth in the material than what's usually presented.
And Company is my favorite Sondheim score, and at this point probably one of my favorite scores period.
ETA: Wow, sorry for being like a page behind... carry on!

Lol, yes aspiringactress, your words are quite true. Especially about the page behind as well Sorry but the last page has been filled with excitement at the news of this raincoat being an actual article of clothing that doesn't seem to have made just one appearance in the land of Mano.
I have a sense that Mano is one of those people (I am too) who buys an article of clothing and then always wants to wear it. Ex. Ars Nova blazer, Quicksilver (?) beanie, and now the raincoat. If he wears the duck coat to the Tonys though, we'll know he's gone crazy.
But the blazer is cool.
The raincoat is not. It's cute and all, but... so not a fashion statement. (I'm sorry, Mano!) He has like nine beanies.
Double post.

I think we will truly know if he winds up wearing all 3 together on the red carpet!
I maintain that the raincoat is cute in a dorky way. And lol, Company, I think if that happens we'll know it's the end of the world.
He's gonna look cute in a tux. I mean, Raul looks cute in a tux, so it's only obvious. Duh.
Sorry, had to.

You know, I was thinking the other day how great Manoel would be as Bobby in Company or George in Sunday (imagine Finishing the Hat), and then it dawned on me who else played those roles. Ooops
I also think Ben would make a great Henrik in Night Music if he could sing that high.
Haha. ON the topic of Tony dress, my best friend's mom is presenting and her dress is the most beautiful thing ever. I saw it last night, and my jaw dropped.
I told Mano she's presenting, and he said. "Oh yeah, she's cool. I met her. She's cool." It was funny.
I want them to do a show together. Explosion, I say.

I see the explosiveness on stage, but something tells me they wouldn't get along very well. Hmmm
edit; congrats on getting such great seats Aspiring. I won't be able to get to TCP early enough next week and I would love to be able to catch Sweeney again at night if my friend is willing to go with me. As disappointing as the percentages have been, this is a wonderful opportunity for the hardcore fans to get more bang for their buck. Wow, don't ask me where the hell that little phrase came from
Their personalities are totally different. But they're both professional, so whatever. I honestly don't know -- sometimes when you have two really similar types of talent, it actually works counter to what you'd think. They might work against each other.
I would walk to NY to see them in a show together.
I agree about Ben as Henrik. Ben was SO ON tonight. His voice was in such good form ans it sounded very free and connected. He stood out tonight, and he has grown on me the most. Mano is still my favorite, but Ben has climbed many knotches.

They have each progressed in their own ways. Manoel never fails to surprise by adding on some new aspect or just taking his character even farther and just becoming Toby completely.
Ben is always a ball of energy on that stage, running around singing and playing with perfection. I see what you mean, he definitely has worked his way up with his role. Plus, he's always so kind at the stagedoor and engaging with the fans. I saw him once at the ATM at Duane Reade and he was just as nice on the street as he is at the O'Neill, very sincere.
My favorites, I know it is hard to say, are definitely Manoel, Lauren, Ben, Mark, and Diana.
Mine are ... nevermind, too hard to say anyone but Mano. So, for now, just Mano.
I tried to incorporate Mano into my Chess dream cast (along with Raul and Adam as Anatoly and Freddie), but no such luck. I bet Mano hates Chess, anyway.
I think that he'd make a mind-blowingly great George in Sunday. I'm still holding out for him to sing Finishing the Hat sometime.
He can be the arbiter!
