I am such a nerd about the Oscars. I can not wait!

So here is the list of who is expected to win on Sunday in the top awards:

Best Director: Clint Eastwood (possibly Scorsese)
Best Actor: Jamie Foxx
Best Actress: Hilary Swank
Best Supp Actor: Morgan Freeman
Best Supp Actress: Cate Blanchett
Best Adapted Screenplay: Sideways
Best Original Screenplay: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Best Foreign Film: The Sea Inside
Best Animated Film: The Incredibles

Discuss!

(and please note there are already threads on Chris Rock--please take those debates to those threads. Thank you!)

re: The Oscars are Sunday!

Oh yes! Oh yes! *truly jumping up and down and clapping* The Oscars are the day I look most forward to in the year, even more so than my birthday. I take the day off work, throw a little shindig with my friends, and make Oscar themed food. I'm so excited.

As for my predictions, give me a day or two to come up with them. I'm giving it serious though. Who I WANT to win and who will LIKELY win are quite different.

re: The Oscars are Sunday!

The only reason for me to watch it this year is to see Cate Blanchett win her much-deserved Oscar. I only wish she won for a juicier performance, though. Still, having been snubbed several times already, this has been a long time coming.

re: The Oscars are Sunday!

Very interesting--and I wouldn't be surprised if either of you are right as it's always possible for a couple of surprises. They are saying this is the toughest race in years. That either means big upsets or that it will end up being completely predictable.

A month ago, I would have said that The Aviator would sweep most of its awards. Now--not so sure.

re: The Oscars are Sunday!

I'm far more excited about where I will be watching it as opposed to who wins and who doesn't right now.

Hee hee. 3 DAYS! I can't wait. And now, back to the original topic of this thread:

It really looks like The Aviator will be left in the cold now, doesn't it?

I truly mean this in the most polite way possible: Didn't we already discuss this? I understand that you hated the movie, but I loved it.

I'm going out on a limb...from which I could fall very hard and very fast...but, why the f*ck not?

SO...I believe that there will be a surprise upset. And I predict it will be Virginia Madsen over Cate Blanchett. Just a feeling. I'm probably totally wrong.

But I did predict the upset of Marcia Gay Harden over Kate Hudson.

I'm with robbiej regarding Virginia Madsen. She was wonderful!

re: The Oscars are Sunday!

Wonderful? What the hell is wrong with you people? Madsen's is the least deserved nomination in YEARS.

popcultureboy-

I have to agree with you. While Madsen gave a nice performance, and she had one really great scene with Giamatti, she doesn't deserve the award.

PS:

No worries.

re: The Oscars are Sunday!

I was actually asleep during her one great scene which may contribute to my bewilderment at her nomination.

I still think Kate Winslet should win! But it won't happen!

I would love to see Johnny Depp win for his performance in Finding Neverland. But I don't believe that will happen.

re: The Oscars are Sunday!

I'm just hoping the following people get an Oscar sometime in my (or their) lifetimes:

Ian McKellen
Kate Winslet
Cate Blanchett
Johnny Depp
Lynn Redgrave
Emma Thompson

And I hope it's for uber-juicy roles that blow the competition away!
