re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

Oh, honey, do us all a favor and GET OVER it, and quit you're whining. You act as if homosexuality was completely taken out of the trailer AND the movie.

Staticradar,

I wonder how many of those three male-male kisses end up in the movie. It will be interesting to see how Chris Columbus has actually treated this.

As for the notion that I want to see a make-out session between the guys, nothing could be further from the truth. I just want to see fair and proportional representation in the trailer. Show the gay male love in the same way the heterosexual love has been shown.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

Considering Chris Columbus wanted to introduce the issue of same-sex marriage in the movie...

Fandom_wank? Anyone? Seriously???

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

The problem is that gay male love isn't proportioned in the ORIGINAL production to begin with. There is one gay couple. There is one lesbian couple. There are MANY heterosexual couples. That's how it was "proportioned" from the start. And if you say, "Oh, but that's not enough," that gay material that was in Larson's work was probably more than what other productions at that time included.

But then you would be arguing with Larson's original material, and not the trailer itself.
This is my signature.

I suggest that you put up the millions of dollars necessary to produce and market the film yourself, get the approval of the family and cast, and shoot a version that satisfies your sensibilities, including the trailer. Nothing that is said, no reason provided will satisfy you. You have your opinion, and you are entitled to it. So, go make your own film and see how many people it reaches.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

Art, I'm sure it WILL be shown that way in the movie. If you're getting you panties in a bunch because the male-male kissing was, in your mind, left out because the producers thought it would get people who don't normally accept homosexuality to see the movie, be happy that it might lure those types of people to see something new and embrace Larson's message.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

but the gay male relationship in the movie -isn't- the same as the straight relationships. the collins/angel relationship (in my eyes at least) was about loving another human being, love that goes beyond just the physical stuff...versus say the benny/mimi relationship or even the roger/april relationship which i've always viewed as a much more shallow, physical relationship. so naturally, it would be more appropriate to portray roger/april kissing while it more accurately portrays the collins/angel relationship through handholding, hugging, and dancing in the street.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

I do not think the trailer is homophobic, nor do I think it is trying to hide the homosexual side of the movie either. I think that the marketing people are trying to get a larger audience and make money, and frankly I would rather have the trailer's and previews downplay the homosexuality, if that means reaching an audience that might not come to the movie if they did see it. I don't think that anyone can deny the power behind ALL of the relationships in the show, and its message. By pulling in a larger audience (using the downplay technique) the movie might actually reach a whole new level and show some people that a same gender partner is still about the same thing as an opposite gender partner...love, compassion, trust, understanding, sex...and it does not matter with who. So I say, why should marketing execs cater to the audience that is already well accquainted with Rent's message (Face it, we're in the theatres the second it opens)? I think the only thing for them to do is "jump over the moon." Reach out...even if they're in it for the money, and I am being a bit idealistic, if it sends a positive message in the end...I'm okay with it.

Seriously, people. Don't even bother arguing any more since he's so clearly right and we're SO clearly wrong. *rolls eyes*

If two minutes and 20 seconds of images did THIS... man, can't wait to see what the full-length trailer and the MOVIE do...

Look folks...Art is right. No one in middle America wants to see two guys make out. Let's just be honest about it. As for this movie, we've all read the script and as much as you foam at the mouth over the obc. Mark my words...THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK. And not the way Art would like it to.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

Listen, if it ain't on the page it ain't on the stage or the screen in this case. As I said, many of us read the script. Can you tell me that spoken dialogue pulled word for word from a song, that rhymes is good. Please live out your fantasy's about wanting to bone the cast but let's not fool ourselves.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

OH, so you read the final draft of the script?

Well, I didn't know THAT was floating around. Do link me to it, since apparently you've read it.

Art gives gay people a bad name!
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

The final script hasn't been released. What you have read was the old Chobsky And C--

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

By the way, Art does NOT give gay people a bad name. He is merely standing up for his views. Although, I agree that he shouldn't get himself so worked up over this stinker of a movie. Perhaps his time would be better spent, dwelling on the gay undertones of All Shook Up "the movie". Oh, I forgot, that show was so god awful that it couldn't even scratch out one Tony nomination much less a film version. Oh well, sorry Art. Keep swinging.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

i think that this is one of the most touching and well shot images from the trailer. it shows a gay couple kissing. they are not two men, but they are a gay couple. if someone was truely homophibic, they would have the same problem with this image that they would with two men kissing on screen.

Whatever happened to class?

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

I know the final script has not been released to the public...you just have to know who to ask. Sorry for your lack of knowledge on this matter but keep trying.

re: The RENT movie trailer appears to be homophobic

OF COURSE! That's Art's whole point. America finds two hot women kissing a turn on but two guys is gross. You just made Art's point for him by showing this still. Art thanks you
