A trailer is not going to be all things to all people. While I appreciate that the Angel/Collins relationship is important to the story, I honestly think that Angel, as a pure symbol of love, is just as important to everyone. His death shakes them all. If you do not like the way the issue is being handled in the trailer, then just don't go to the film. Simple enough.
Maybe strangers to the Rent story, because believe or not, there are still a few out there who do not know what Rent is about, would be a bit put-off by two men kissing. Is that right . . . no. But, unfortunately, it is true. Some people are just ignorant, or worse, out-right hateful.
I would rather get people in the door and expose them to the love, then scare their pea-brained minds away before they had a chance to consider that maybe this relationship is really not a big deal - no different than any other. And, as has been already mentioned, this is not an art-house movie. And in the end, the studio is there to make money. Jonathon's family is apparently pleased with how the movie whas shot and handled, as were the 6th members from the OBC.
And, for what it is worth, 4 of the 8 cast members have done a lenghthy interview with Out Magazine . . .

I hope that makes some sense.
