I also thought episode three was where we really started to get into David Lynchian territory.

Episode 4 everything is starting to implode. I have no idea how they will resolve all this mess in 2 more hours. Good god it's messy, but delicious.

This is my favorite scripted show of 2021. It almost makes me want to give Enlightened another shot...almost.

I read that the Murray Bartlett character gets the best revenge since The Help.

oooh exciting but to be fair, He did mess up by double booking the pineapple suite but Shane just can't let it go but I loved how Armond kept trying to convince him that their suite is better(but Shane is fixated by the cost)

Yes but Armond is a total perp. I mean, I have sympathy for the dude but he’s crossed the line into sinister at this point. He’s a rapist. Shane is a spoiled douche but Armond is a major skeev. He plied someone using his position of power, drugs and privileges he could offer them to coerce them into something they weren’t really even conscious during. I think because it’s two men people on White Lotus message boards are acting like it’s more comical and minimizing that it’s a crime. A few people I was talking to were like, “what does Shane actually have on him? Why is he so excited?” I’m like really?!?! There is so much wrong with what went down and two people witnessed it.

The White Lotus is a black comedy. In black comedy there are always characters whose morality is beyond questionable. For example, I think murder is horrendous, but it doesn’t keep me from getting a chuckle out of a Coen Brothers movie.
My first thought after watching the referenced scene was why didn’t they lock the door?
We view art through our own life experience. What is amusing to some people is not amusing to others.
A person who has been sexually abused at work would more than likely view the scene differently than an employee who has put up with a lot of customer nonsense or someone who has suffered from addiction.

I was just relaying what I had read in an article. But that being said The White Lotus is a black comedy.
I get that but it's also a modern morality play of sorts presenting all sorts of hideousness. I think it's kind of a Rorschach test for the viewer as to who they do and don't relate to, who they do and don't forgive, who they do and don't understand, who they do and don't condemn. It holds a mirror up to the viewer all the while they are reacting to the characters. One of the reasons I love it. The characters are all projective objects.

I just want Belinda to get her own spa, but, sadly, I don't see that working out for her in the end.

Oh god yes, Armond is a perp but(unless I'm forgetting something), the worst thing he did was sent Shane and his wife on the boat with JC's kooky character to spread the ashes... now the stuff he did with the guy who seems is going to blackmail him is separate than his beef with Shane

I may be the only one here who thinks this series is a stinkfest. So be it. Full of nasty people, especially the two-faced fake politically-enlightened but ultra conniving daughter. If Jennifer Coolidge doesn't fund that spa.... $%&#!!!! it all.

They have one hour long episode left and so many loose ends. I hope this doesn’t end with a bunch of unknowns. White said there will be no second season. This is a one and done.
SPOILER FOR THOSE NOT CURRENT:
I get the sense Tanya has already shown she can only pay attention/obsess over one thing at a time. Looks like Belinda has been dusted. I feel bad for her.
Paula really screwed over that hotel employee. There’s been no mention on security cameras. There has to be footage of him in the hallways leaving the room. All hotels have cameras everywhere now.
Man Molly Shannon was brutal. Loved her playing against type. Vicious with a smile.

Bartlett really is quite good. The visceral distain he has for the guests is palpable. If anyone gets an award nomination it will be him. It is his best work to date.
His character could anchor a whole other comedy series based in a luxury hotel. Perhaps he could welcome guests to the new Fantasy Island.

Actually he mentioned that they are in early talks to potentially do another season, using the MCU as an example of how they’d handle it. A different White Lotus resort in a different tropical place with a different cast, but in the same universe. Although with the potential for one or some of the guests to come back. (Id guess Jennifer Coolidge or Molly Shannon).
Anyway, I absolutely love this show and I’m so curious to how they will wrap everything up!

The second season will be at a different resort with different characters, so everything will still need to be wrapped up in episode six.

Correct. I was referring to the fact that White didn’t want to extend these characters when so many of us are enthralled by them. One hour seems scant to deal with all the chaos that remains.
I was possibly expecting a Big Little Lies deal where they said no second season and then brought everyone back. I thought that second season wasn’t very compelling and feel the White Lotus would suffer in the same way.
I think many people on the show are doing exceptional work and will be recognized come award season. Bartlett, Coolidge, Britton, Sweeney ,Lacy and Rothwell and really delivering. Zahn is the only doing his typical thing.

Season two of BLL was such a disappointment. But season two of white lotus will have a new cast and setting so I'm very optimistic.
I haven't seen Zahn in anything except Modern Family and Joy Ride 20 years ago, but I've never seen him given a meaty part like this. Feel like Coolidge is very much playing her type but marvelously so.

While Coolidge is treading in familiar territory I’ve never seen her inhabit such a damaged, fractured unlikeable person. I know many people find her funny in this. For some reason I haven’t been laughing as much as others. My friend was howling when she was on the boat with the “mother, mother, mother” business. I found it sad and disturbing. I find some of her bits funny but she makes me uncomfortable more than she makes me laugh. She has a depth. I think her speaking voice makes people think she is being funny. She just has one of those voices, like Wanda Sikes. Can you imagine Wanda being given some drama?
Theres a great new interview with Coolidge where she said she didn’t want to do this show. When lockdown happened she became very depressed. She honestly thought the world was ending. She ate pizza everyday. White called her and told her he had written a part for her and shooting was going to start immediately. She had gained weight and her vanity and depression told her to not do it. She knew that creating some new work would be healing so she did the show and channeled her depression and fear into the character. It served her well as she said she’s getting the best reviews of her career. She also was very funny and said she hoped she didn’t die from doing her love scenes.

This is one of the best commentaries on class I've seen in a long time. For most of history, up to the fall of the aristocracy, we associated wealth with moral fiber; that those with the most money and the most power were the pillars of society. In this show, the more money you have, the more evil you are.
I'm really interested in the parallels between the two married couples. One member of each has far more wealth and influence than their spouse, and Rachel and Mark are barely given the dignity of concubines.

This is the best thing I have ever seen Jennifer do. It is also one of the best roles she has been given. She has created so many layers. I think the scene on the boat was very funny but very sad at the same time. That was the mark of a good actress and a good director.
I love the idea of changing locations for next season. I love being transported to different places all over the world.
It is interesting how some folks like me love the show and others have absolutely no interest.
