Glad it’s only 6 episodes because I don’t think I could stand to spend any more time with these characters yet can’t wait to find out where we’re going for season two. It’s like recuperating from severe rubbernecking each week. Know I shouldn’t but can’t help it.
My favorite character is the music which just adds to the suspense but reminds me of my looming emotional hangover.

Murray Bartlett on All the SH*T That Goes Down in the White Lotus Finale

Just finished the episode. Thrilling, heartbreaking, beautifully shot, incredible music, mind-blowing acting from everyone involved. HBO knocks it out of the park once again with their television shows. I'm excited to see how they up the ante with the second season.
Also, let's please cast Murray Bartlett in everything from now on.

The whole episode i kept wondering how they could get a second or even make this into an ongoing series. It's just brilliant the way it is. The sound design was just exceptional. Gorgeously shot. Just stellar.
Excited for The Other Two season 2 in the next week (totally diff style, but so good)

It sounds like they're going for an anthology style, focusing on a different White Lotus resort every season. I'd like to seem them delve more into the effects of imperialism in other parts of the world.

The sound design was just stunning!
What was going on with the young married couple at the airport? Did she basically go back to him because she didn’t have the strength to leave? Did the husband avoid getting charged for the death because he was protecting himself?
I was happy that the son stayed. It was very moving seeing him connect to something.

Yes to both. It wasn't explicitly stated but I don't know any other conclusion to draw. I thought Rachel's decision to stay was very realistic. Most shows would have had her be a hero and saunter away like a girlboss.

Yes to both. Very realistic. Rachel essentially gave the set up to why she would stay. She set the premise when she explained why she was leaving Shane and why she got with him to begin with. She doesn’t do well alone or when she is fragile (how she got with Shane to begin with.) She needs validation.
I do feel she may have left him had Belinda told her she was doing the right thing and given her the extra push. However that wasn’t in the cards as Belinda was rightfully burned out.
Shane definitely got off scott free because rich white men aren’t questioned. Needless to say there is a paper trail of Armond’s erratic behavior to support a self defense excuse.
I do wonder though if Shane will be softer now since committing the murder. He did say he was sorry to Armond and appeared shook and impacted. He did seem softer and more expressive when he saw Rachel at the airport. So I wonder if he will be kinder.
I don’t think the son’s happy ending will last long. He will be on a plane with an air Marshall the following day. He’s a minor and Connie Britton will squash him dreams. I also think her ardor for her husband will fade as soon as the plane lands.
I was very worried that Olivia was going to go full Karen and use her white fragile girl tears to rat out Paula to her mother. That terrified me. I’m glad she did not. As she sat there crying waiting for her mother to notice her I had a pit in my stomach.
Paula was also a victim of her privilege. Whatever advantages she had over Kai based on her class she was blind to. She was unaware how dangerous it was to set him up like that. How much he would suffer as a low to working class man of color. She could have easily just given him the bracelets. Instead she ruined his life. Olivia was actually right. Someone could have been killed. Paula may not have as much as Olivia but she has more than Kai.
Tanya wounded Belinda and hands her an envelope of cash saying she can’t repeat a pattern of transactional relationships with people as she is about to rent a house for a man to live with her and pay the expenses. Maddening. She’s doomed too. She can throw the ashes wherever she wants. The trauma of her childhood lives in her spine.
There is so much more to talk about. It was a fascinating show.

I have to say that I have never seen anything like the suitcase scene. I know everything was fake but I had to turn away.

I found the final episode slightly underwhelming, but this was easily the best series I watched this year. Heck, in a long while.
EDIT: Actually, I realize that I found it slightly underwhelming when I finished watching it but now I do think it was perfect

That's the one egregious plot hole, I think. What medical examiner is going to have a murder victim with half a bottle of Adderall in his system on a plane to the mainland in less than 12 hours? Are the police not going to hold Shane for any questioning? A dozen hotel employees could attest that Shane had it out for Armond, are they just going to buy his story that Armond broke into his room and Shane acted in self-defense?

I think Rachel came to the conclusion that she couldn't leave Shane even if she wanted to. She mentioned a prenup earlier in the show, but knowing Shane, his parents would pull every string possible to make sure Rachel doesn't get a dime. What does that leave her? Back to being broke, saddled with the legal fees for the divorce? Would you rather be free and destitute or rich and trapped in a loveless marriage?

I thought it was a great finale, although I wish that Armond had died in a more unexpected way. Because Shane had put the knife on the nightstand earlier in the day, the outcome was predictable as soon as he got back to the room, which took away any tension in the scene, and, ultimately, made it anticlimactic for me. I wanted to be surprised, but I wasn’t.
Since it’s going to be an anthology series, I would love to see Murray Bartlett return in subsequent seasons of the show.

Most definitely. Deserves an Emmy nod at the very least

Yes he does and I am sure he will get one. His best performance ever.
I think I expected the last episode to have a little more urgency, building to its conclusion, but to be fair it matched the tempo of the other episodes which I think was purposeful given the characters were on vacation.

Reviews are mixed and the show is less than average. Nothing to see here."
This aged well…
What a wild ride this was! Thrilling from start to finish.

You were totally right, Smooth. I absolutely loved this wild and wacky ass show. I think the location appealed to most people watching because, well, we all want to be there right now. Thank you for pushing me, much appreciated!

The first episode of Season 2 dropped last night.
Already off to a very promising start. From what I've already seen, it feels like it's going to go in a very different direction than season 1, examining completely different ideas and themes while still having the same black comedy and slick direction that the first series had.
There's also a cameo from Laura Dern, as a character's ex-wife in a phone conversation. It blows my mind how she can be this good just as a voice on a phone.
