Posted: 2/28/05 at 4:59amOkay, I just wanted to yell at some of you and tell you to lay off of Wicked and the fans and performers. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you have to constantly be rude to the kids that come on here just discovering broadway and loved Wicked and Idina or Kristin and just want to talk about it. You all say you're sick of the Wicked posts well I'm sick of seeing your bitching about wicked posts, get a life.

I'll second that. I've been a musical theatre fan for nearly 12 years and I've seen enough shows on Broadway, Tour, and in Regional Theatre to consider myself to be a decent judge of the genre and I love chatting about all the musicals I've seen including "Wicked". However, the attitudes of some of the people on these boards are such a turn off that this is only the second time I have delurked. I can't be the only one who feels this way. I always feel like any opinion I post will likely be turned around on me, so I just stay silent.
As I have also seen mentioned before, there seems to be something of a double standard on these boards. People complain and moan and have temper tantrums whenever someone mentions "Wicked" in a positive way, but then the same people feel the need to turn almost every. single. thread, even unrelated ones, into a "Wicked" bashing fest. What's the problem? So, you don't like it. *Fine* That's your opinion and most people will respect that if you make even a small effort to respect theirs.

"but then the same people feel the need to turn almost every. single. thread..."
That's SO not true. The persecution complex exhibited by people who create and contribute to threads like this just begs for you to be picked on.
And Jarred, there's no apostrophe in "its fans," you stupid, illiterate moron.
Sincerely,
Grammar Snob

FindingNamo, why do you feel the need to be so cruel to people? I agree with the original poster of this thread, and I have to say, even if you don't like "Wicked," you have to admit, it's brining new blood to the theater. I know a few people who had never seen a show, but after seeing "Wicked," are more interested in theater. So, for that, I'm thankful.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 9:47amOh god, GayHarveyDanger. PLEASE don't resort to the pathetic "It's bringing new blood to the theater" argument. That's used to justify the biggest steaming turds put on stage. And NOBODY has ever been able to demonstrate that hypothesis anyway.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 9:50amIt is posts like the original post in this thread that incite the anger that gets directed to Wicked and the fankids. Shut up.
#9re: Theatre Snobs, stop hating Wicked or it's fans.
Posted: 2/28/05 at 10:05amAnd what is this new "blood" Wicked is bringing?
#10re: Theatre Snobs, stop hating Wicked or it's fans.
Posted: 2/28/05 at 11:51amWell, I agree. The board rule is pretty much "If you want to talk about Wicked, go to a Wicked board, and if you wanna talk about theatre, come to this board". That kind of sucks.

I loved "Wicked" when I saw it December 2003...I also love Strawberry Cheecake, but I don't want to have to eat it or hear about it every day.
There is life (and wonderful theatre) beyond "Wicked." Don't cheat yourself of that enjoyment because of obsessing over one production.
Obsessing over anything isn't the healthiest thing to do.

Do you really expect to "win friends and influence people" when you start a Thread with a phrase like "Theatre Snobs" in the title?
You may want to consider putting a little more thought into your choice of words BEFORE posting them--and the effect they will have on the other Board Members who will read them...

Posted: 2/28/05 at 1:20pmjarred03, Zora – (heh, you’re probably the same person) use the search feature. this topic too has been brought up many times. the wicked bashing is brought upon by those who feel the need to constantly discuss and rediscuss the show in all its aspects and continually suggest that it is the greatest show ever - some of them having never even seen another Broadway show. this kind of behavior is just as obnoxious as the bashing. they bring it upon themselves. and the bashing will continue long after the show closes. so get used to it.

I don't think it's a matter of HATING Wicked or the performers, it's just kind of irking sometimes when all you want to do is discuss theatre with other people who share your knowledge and appreciation for the art form, and all you find is yet another threat about how great Idina Menzel is. We've discussed it. She's great, alright, case closed. Let's talk about something else. Who said anything about hating the show, the fans or the performers?
And yes, there are theatre snobs on this board. This IS a theatre message board after all. Don't say it like it's a bad thing.

And the show will continue to be discussed to death long after the show closes...shouldn't you get used to that also?

It isn't a fever, it's an epidemic.
Hey jarred, putz: I love Wicked, in fact, it is my second favorite show (that I have seen, live).
But I am sick of threads written by immature brats with HORRIBLE grammar and pointless topics (such as this one) that have already been discussed.
How many, "Wouldn't so-and-so be great as Glinda/Elphaba/Fiyero/Ensemble Member 3?," "Does ____ come out after the show?," and "When does _________ leave/start?"
"It's enough to make you heave"

I think most of us don't hate Wicked so much as we are completely burnt out on it and irritated at the rudeness of some of its "fans". How would you like it if you found an online community where you could share your love of theatre? Where you could learn so much by asking questions about the best broadway shows, of the past, the present, and even talk about the future all mixed together and people were willing to help you learn because you were eager and you loved Broadway.
This board has either given me or directed me to so much more knowledge about Broadway that I would know so little if I never found this board. People were witty and funny and though they all didn't get along even the most bitter of enemies could find things to agree on. I started posting on the board about mid-december of 03 and I heard that this show Wicked was releasing it's cast recording. I went out and bought it. It took me a couple of days to get into it, but I enjoyed the music. Then gradually all my posts about wanting to learn more about theatre, the best resources for learning were slowly choked out by a slowly but ever increasing amount of threads about Wicked.
Nothing of value could stay afloat above the numerous Wicked threads. Occasionally you would get someone who would give a detailed review of why they liked Wicked and longtime board members had no problem with that but that was less than 1% of those Wicked threads. Threads such as, "OMG! WHAT LIP_GLOSS DOES INDNDA AND CHENO WHERE" and when we would get a good discussion going on other shows we would get "Why are you talking about this I hate all Broadway shows before Rent."
Often times there were three or four threads on the main board asking the exact same question only a thread or two apart. THere was no in depth talk about Wicked or an attempt to explore theatre other than Wicked by these posters. Some would actually yell at you for trying to introduce them to other theatre. Many intelligent board members left during this time because the board had become overrun by these Wicked fans and they felt like they couldn't get a word in edgewise.
It came to a head around Tony time. I liken it to a war, but it was basically declared because the Wicked fans had just about overrun the board so we fought back. Then one morning I checked the board and most of the Wicked threads had disappeared along with the ones battling against the Wicked fans. Things did get better after that but that underlying sentiment of losing very intelligent people and that great learning and discussion environment is still aggravating to think about. The Wicked fans burnt me out on Wicked through their rudeness and their obssessiveness.
I am not saying all people who like Wicked are that way but that is why the board is so polarized when it comes to Wicked. The Wicked bashing posts are old too but I think posters who are sick of Wicked just do it to amuse themselves moreso than actually being theatre snobs. You have to have something to vent your frustration. For me at least, anytime I post in an anti-Wicked thread I do it just for humor's sake though I am sure most people take it as me being a hateful jerk. Now behave or I'll set this woman in my picture after you! (Extra points to the person who knows who it is.)

Son/Gunn, love...
A few well placed line breaks would have made that post readable. I love what you said... but it's very hard to read.

Excuse me JohnPopa do you really think calling all teenagers retarded is right. I am 16 and yes, I love Wicked too but being rude like that only makes people my age angry and make them wanna erk you more and more believe me, I know Im a master at it. But I mean i see where you're coming from because I can see how annoying it gets when people keep posting about the same thing over and over again which is very annoying on any message board. Im a member of Kristin Chenoweth's Glitter and they have kids as young as 10 who see Wicked or hear the CD and become obessed with Glinda and Cheno when really they have no idea who she really is and what she has done which is very annoying. So believe me I know how you all feel...
