DD! Does the lack of signature mean that anything from Seattle and LA isn't out-of-bounds anymore?
YWIW, what's Charoses?
So I'm thinking if/when I go to Europe next year, I want to take a sidetrip to Marrakech, since there's flights from Gatwick for relatively cheap. What have you guys heard about travel there? Morocco's a place I've always wanted to go to, but I don't know if it's tourist-friendly, especially with two young and single Asian women.
Tiff, I think charoses is a mixture of chopped apples and wine or something. We Jews eat it at Passover.
Now how can you go wrong with a mixture of apples and wine??
Jane is Right.
Charoses (at least how I make it) is peeled green apples, Cinnamon, walnuts and some sweet wine.
It almost taset like applie pie filling, of done right.
It is the one thing I have to make every frickin' Passover, which means I will be making it soon.
The combo of the sweet wine and the green apples gives it a really nice taste.
yeah, now wrap that up in a pasta shell, and it doesn't sound so bad!
Maybe with some matzoh, but never in a pasta shell.
Horror of horros.
Don't forget the bread crumbs!
Wow, passover IS coming up soon, isn't it? Any plans? (What's traditional? I *think* Undi's spending Passover in Seattle and Vancouver, but I could be wrong - if I'm lucky, maybe I'll finally get to try Jewish food. My only exposure is matzoh and a bit of matzoh ball soup years ago.)
My mother has a big Passover Seder, and the weekend before, my father is having a park dedicated in his name in the City where I grew up. So, the whole family (sans my dad, who has passed away) will be in town for Seder. Along with friends, extended family, and usually a couple of orphans with nowhere left to go. It usually ends up being about 20-25 people at my mom's house. Lots of wine. Last year I was asked to lead it (three girls, and I have the best speaking voice I guess, or, get the duties because I live in town). This year I may try to pass on leading in order to enjoy the wine.
Getting control of a Passover Seder is kind of like herding cats!
I also make the Charoses - gobs and gobs of Charoses.
If you want to come to LA, you are more than welcome to join!
Wow, that sounds interesting! Judaism has always interested me (I wish I'd taken some courses in religious studies) and I used to date a Jew, so I know a little bit, but not a lot. I'd love to visit Jerusalem one day!
What other foods do you make?
And I doubt I'll be coming out to LA next month but it's tempting!
ETA: Yup, Undi will be in Seattle and Vancouver for most of Passover. I wonder what she'd like to celebrate it!
I think you're going to have to have a seder at your place for Undi, Tiff. She already promised her mother you would.
She's in Vancouver for the second day of Passover, and in Seattle for the bulk of it. (I didn't realize that the first seder day isn't actually the first day of passover, and the second seder day is actually...the first?)
Is Undi's mom going to guilt me into holding seder at my house? If she brings the food, she can hold whatever the heck she wants!
Just throw a piece of matzoh at her and hand her an apple.
My family acutally does a first night Seder.
Think of it like Chrismas eve . . .
Seder starts at sundown, and continues for 8 days. So, a first night Sedar would be Tuesday Night, while the first day of Passover is Wednesday, and Second Night Sedar would be on the evening of the First Day . . .
Some families (especially outside of Israel) do a First and Second Night Seder. Often times, my mom goes to friends for a Second Night Sedar, but one night a year is about all I can handle.
The length and formality of the Seder depends on how devout you are, and what book you use. We are pretty liberal and reform, so usually we only take three of four hours, and have our own family haggadah (that is the book you use for the Seder). I have friends who go way past midnight.
Believe it or not, I at one time taught reform religious school (which is truly scary, since I do not believe in organized religion) was Bat Mitzvah'ed and confirmed.
Ask Undi if she and her family follow the dietary rules accompanying Passover. If so, a nice box of Matzohs is always handy!
And, one the the best thing about Seder, is the old-fashioned big, juicy Macaroons. Yuuuum!
OK, now I am hungry.
Mmm...you totally had me at "box of Matzohs". Now I'm craving it.
Grr...just got called in to work on a film tomorrow (the one with the former drug addict boss who's interested in me) and then Wednesday and Thursday overnight location shoots. As tempted as I am to turn them down, my hollow bank account is telling me to get off my fat lazy ass to work a little.
Tiff, just turn into a nice Jewish Boy and I can work on getting you Citizenship!
But I could be the best shiksa goddess you'll find north of the border!
I could handle a Goy God, but alas, you are missing some major points of interest for me.
Hey, even store-bought products feel the same in the dark! We can work things out, I'm confident!
This is sounding like a bad episode of the L Word!
The cats are running around like cartoon characters again.
Are they leaving dust in their wake and dashing everywhere with a pk-KEW! sound effect?
That, and an open donkey sounding wailing from Stoli, and cat fur flying, and you just have about got it!
She runs under the bed when he gets too rough, and he just gets pissed because he cannot play with her!
You ought to teach him a lesson on how to properly treat ladies!
That freakin' pig. He is a dude in cats clothing.
"He is a dude in cats clothing."

For you Broadway Baby - he is a dude in cat's clothing
