So I've been accepted to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, for Playwrights Horizons Theatre School. I am stoked, but am a little nervous to go so far away to such a different place. I am from a small, very sheltered town in Northern California. I am definitely ready for a change, but I'm concerned about culture shock. What is Greenwitch Village like? I've heard its wonderful. How safe is it (my parents are concerned)? What are the people like? What about cost of living? Thanks to anyone who can help!
My other option is University of California, Irvine, a great school where I'm sure I could be very happy. I'm just stoked about New York.
1.) CONGRATS ON GETTING IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2.) it is going to be a HUGE change, but it will be super exciting. as far as I know, the village is mostlyyyy college students so I think its pretty safe, but I dont live there so I dont really know. Great places to eat and shop =)
I dont have any clue about the cost of living, but wont you live in a dorm anyway?
Honestly, you've been presented with such a great opportunity, why not try it. If you don't like New York you can transfer.
And yeah its mostly college kids, but you still should be relatively careful.
Hi! I go to NYU (CAS, not Tisch)...
I love the Village. It's my favorite part of Manhattan. It's actually really safe, as long as you're somewhat careful.
Cost of living is a little high, although there are some cheap places to get food. The dorms are kind of expensive, and you can find an apartment in, say, Brooklyn that's cheaper...although I would advise living in the dorms freshman year. The area does have a lot of college kids, but Greenwich has a ton of families as well.
I go to NYU, CAS. and honestly there is no other experience like living in the city, more specifically the village, like justabwaybaby said, prices are little high, but if you're on BWW- you're a subway stop or 3 away from the theater district which comes in handy. People are really nice here- I remember my first week and everyone was so great .there's so much to do in the village -you'll never be bored, ever.
dont go to UCI! I live right by there, and you would be so much better going to NYU! Oh my gosh. Amazing oppurtunity at Tisch. Don't pass it up.
My friend was from a school around me and he got accepted and currently goes to PRH. The town that we are from is very very small with a graduating class of like 120. I think it was a culture shock, but in a good way, and I think he really adjusted well. Best of luck to you, it's an amazing school!
Go go go! It's very safe--that area of the city is mostly college students your own age, especially the area where the freshman residence halls are. The NYU dorms can be expensive, but they're about 10 notches above most other college dorms, and your living in a beautiful, safe, lively part of the city. It might be a little intimidating at first, but I know many people who came from far away small towns who really do love it.
oh man, i'm jealous. i say jump on this, it's the opportunity of a lifetime.

Hey... A friend of mine actually goes there, so if you decide to go, definitely let me know and I can put you in contact--- She's going to be a senior (wow) next year, so she's pretty in-the-know. =)
