Top 5 Musicals You'd Never Want To See In A High School?

1. Sunday In The Park With George
2. Assassins
3. Passion
4. Kiss Of The Spider Woman
5. Sweeney Todd (Some try it, and it makes me sick.)

Also I really hate to see shows like Chicago, and Cabaret in High Schools, but at this point, many many many High Schools have done it.

What musicals would you never want to see performed in a HS?

ljay, I feel like it depends on the actual school thats doing Chicago or Caberet. My school has done both, but we have the best theater department in the area...so it was done really well. (Actually, when we put on Chicago a couple of years ago, The Washington Post published an article about it) If the school doesn't have a good theater department, then it won't turn out as well.

I have big complaints with the material of Chicago, and Cabaret in HS.

Which I have spoken about very openly on this board. But I just DON'T want to get into my reasoning right now in this thread.

I don't want this to be another thread debating if those two K&E masterpieces should be in High Schools or not.

I'm just curious what shows you would never want to see done by HS students.

High schools do Sweeney? .... why? How?

Most Sondheim shows should stay out of most high schools, IMO. As well as Rent, Cabaret and Aida (not because of the subject, as with the former two, but simply because I don't want to see it mutilated). I think it goes without saying that LaChiusa's material doesn't belong in a high school, either.

Emcee, my high school just did Aida this year and it was simply amazing. I was very impressed by everyone in the cast and paid to see it 4 times. I do go to a creative and performing arts high school, though.
