"No she looks kinda old in that picture and your name is aspiringactress and I was like...okay an older woman saying shes an aspring actress. Hmmmm."

Fabrizio2, I hate to take this off the subject, but "aspiring" has nothing to do with age. It merely means someone is seeing to attain something. I know actors who don't even start acting until they have retired from another profession. They are still aspiring as well as inspiring.

Yes, we do need a third vampire musical.--Little Sally, Gypsy of the Year 2005.

"Did I just miss it, or did nobody mention "The Full Monty"

Yes. You missed it. I said it earlier along with "Oh, Calcutta!"

"I've lost everything! Luis, Marty, my baby with Chris, Chris himself, James. All I ever wanted was love." --Sheridan Crane "Passions" ------- "Housework is like bad sex. Every time I do it, I swear I'll never do it again til the next time company comes."--"Lulu" from "Can't Stop The Music" ----- "When the right doors didn't open for him, he went through the wrong ones" - "Sweet Bird of Youth" ------------ --------- "Passions" is uncancelled! Hehe - looky there. I figured it was too obvious to miss. re: Top 5 Musicals You'd Never Want To See In A High School?

Of course some of the newer hits will surely get some quite interesting treatments once they've been released to the public: "Wicked", "Rent", "Avenue Q", etc. Elphaba on a milk crate and Glinda in a big hula-hoop; Mimi boasting to Roger that she has "the best abs" below 14th street; sock puppets darting around the risque' subject of four-play. It's ONLY funny if Forbidden Broadway does it! re: Top 5 Musicals You'd Never Want To See In A High School?

a lot of the shows you mentioned will never be done in a high school simply because of their content.

when i was a senior we did "south pacific" - nice little show, right? - day before opening the principal told us we had to leave out the word "damn" in "Bloody Mary", we couldnt say "dang" or "darn" b/c it was too close to the word, my friend forgot and was suspended for 2 weeks.

3. Phantom of the Opera
4. I don't know, I'll end the list here

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

ljay889, are you kidding about Sweeney? High schools are taking on Sweeney Todd?

If anyone has seen a high school adaptation of this, please share. I'm gonna go to the kitchen and get a stiff drink in preparation for responses...

Oh, I witnessed the horror of a high school production of "Sweeney Todd". I don't have the time to go into detail here, but I promise to elaborate later. Suffice it to say that Sweeney did a bad Elvis impersonation, Tobias was a tone-deaf bass who towered FAR over everyone else (at least 6'5' and solid), Pirelli carried a poodle and ad libbed several odd little conversations with it, The Judge sang NOT A NOTE of the music ... they adapted the numbers to straight dialogue scenes and underscored it with the music, Joanna was lucky to hit a fifth of the notes required, and a good 80% of the action took place behind the side of the pie shop set piece ... blocking the view from most seats in the house. OY! I must admit, though, that as inapporpriate as I felt the choice of production was, I give them kudos for setting their sights so high. It could have been far worse. I'll give a scene by scene breakdown if you want, just lemme' know.

Whoever mentioned the "all-white" Aida, that's always the problem plaguing our school... Because we live in Maine there is simply NO diversity (Which is wicked, wicked depressing). So whenever we're thinking of possible shows it goes like-"We could do Hairspray! oh. Wait. Oh oh! We could do Ragtime! Oh, nevermind". Although Ragtime was done nearby recently. It was an excellent production, aside from the fact that Harlem consisted of 5 people...

Um. Back on topic.
RENT, Wicked, Sondheim (I love Sondheim and would LOVE to see us perform it, but... Well, we'd slaughter any show.)

Yes. I have heard of High Schools doing Sweeney. And honestly, it scares me out of my mind. I try not thinking about it lol.

But the scariest of them all for me, is a HS trying PASSION. Though I don't think we'll that happening in a HS anytime soon.

Also a HS dealing with the themes in SPIDER WOMAN is very scary.

Actually, Sondheim and Hal Prince both realized it was a mistake to cast young 20-something actors in the OBC of MERRILY and is one of the main reasons it flopped on Broadway. George Furth's acerbic, cynical, even bitter dialogue sounds trite, sill and unbelievable coming out of the mouths of 20-year olds. There was a production of MERRILY done off-Broadway last year with a bunch of 20-somethings that was pretty mediocre for that exact reason. Seeing a 20 year old actress talking about her third divorce was almost comical. The whole thing came off like a bunch of kids playing dress-up.

In contrast, I saw the Kennedy Center Sondheim Festival production a few years ago that used an adult cast -- Raul Esparza, Michael Hayden, Emily Skinner -- and it was fantastic. Furth has rewritten the book and it's clear that with the proper cast, this show is right up there with Sondheim's best.

In no particular order

Chicago
Rent
High School Musical - not that it can be counted as a real show
Cats
Phantom of the Opera

My high schools done sweeny. I didn't see it so I can't comment on how it was. My high schools also done Les Mis. That wasn't half bad.

I'd really like my High School to do Spelling Bee however...The rights haven't been released, My school is in a suburb of the city, and it would probobly hit too close to home. My school is filled with Marcy's.
