Truck plows through a bike path in NYC

You know what I’d love, if we all meet up and we all could recreate “Eve Was Weak” to punish the sinning, sacrilegious non-believer I am.

It could look something like:

qolbinau: “why are you looking at me like that?”

Mister Matt: “DOWN TO THE CELLAR AND PRAY WOMAN. PRAY FOR WICKED SOUL”

Uncle Charlie: “GOD HAS SEEN YOUR SINNING. JUST BEGINNING. PRAY FOR YOUR SALAVTION, FROM DAMNATION. PRAY OR”

Adamgreer “HE WILL BURN YOU. HE WILL BURN YOU...YOUR SOUL IS A HOLE OF DISEASE”.

ErikJ975 “FATHER DONT FORSAKE HER. FATHER TAKE HER”

Then the climax could be PalJoey in a Hillary Clinton costume making a diva entrance singing “AMENNNNNNNNNN”.

We could do it first lip syncing to the Mazzie version for a warmup, then the Buckley version for the real climax.

Then we could go and see a Broadway show together.

qolbinau: “I never had a group of friends before. I promise I’ll make you proud.”

I honestly have no idea how you could possibly have brought race into this. Or even cowardness? What are you referring to? The Eve was Weak joke? I just am totally perplexed at your comment.

If you look carefully at what people said to you today in all honesty, it's not about your non-beliefs, it's your presentation. It's the hectoring. It's your inability to contain exactly what you say exactly the way you say it to your "religion of peace" thread. So nobody's gonna be singing "And Eve Was Weak" to you. Think more along the lines of "Totally F*ck*d".

I mean we have to be honest there was a range of different responses. Some have an issue with the ideas, some have an issue with the way I present the ideas - some both. I completely understand and will accept much of the criticism that has come my way in this thread. I won’t accept bizarre accusations of racism though in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do about race. We are talking about religion. And the worst religions in the world in terms of human welfare outcomes (particularly Christianity and Islam) span across a number of races and borders. It’s the religious ideas and doctrine I am primarily trying to discuss.

I wonder what you must perceive me to be.

I see you as a twenty something Australian guy, gay, relatively carefree & privileged. You think of yourself as progressive, but have more in common with the Trumpers than you care to admit - namely an intolerance of "PC" culture, an inclination toward trollery, and an intransigent incapability of listening to counter arguments. You see the world in terms of how you yourself are impacted, and lack empathy to some degree...such as when Trump was elected and your first concern was how a terror attack may impede on your upcoming vacation, or how the suspension of the diversity lottery may stop you living your NYC dream.

Well, there's my brief impression. You did ask. It's time to try and fathom that maybe some of us disagree based on how we judge the merits of your argument, and that's not going to change just because you shake is by he shoulders harder each time repeating the same antagonistic spiel over and over.

"I won’t accept bizarre accusations of racism though in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do about race."

What he handed you there in his bizarre non-sensical post (which is like most of them?) was a distraction to focus on instead of what everybody else has been trying to tell you. Let that one go, he's not bright.

Re: comments about not being able to accept other ideas. I do find it interesting because how do we distinguish between an inability to accept other ideas with simply having the right ideas that are better than the counter arguments? If someone could possibly convincingly argue these points I would easily accept I am wrong:

* That religious beliefs are factually correct/true (very hard to claim when we know that most have it wrong because they contradict each other between religions - and no scientific stance would support it).
* That religious beliefs do not affect attitudes, rights and violence towards gay people in particular (the doctrine, statistical evidence and of course anecdotal experience - especially as a so-called ‘privileged’ gay person myself makes this hard to argue against).
* That religious beliefs are not implicated in religious terrorist attacks (beyond what I thought would be self-evident and almost a tautology - we can see that the attacks happening in the Middle East to innocent Muslims (I.e., not West), interviews with extremist attackers about their motivations, interviews with extremist non-attackers about their motivations and examination of the doctrine do indeed suggest that religious beliefs are implicated in religious attacks). We (the west) are not simply being punished for Middle East interventions (even if that is certainly a part of it - but it’s not necessary for it given domestic terrorist attacks in countries such as Pakistan have nothing to do with punishing west).
* That it is not a concern if people hold false beliefs or it is not a concern that these false beliefs can lead to negative effects for gay people, public safety (as well as other issues such as women’s rights etc).

My take on the situation is that due to wide differences in attitudes and beliefs within and between religions, and due to the uncomfortable idea in our 2017 PC/religious privilege times of suggesting a religious doctrine could ever be ‘wrong’ - people find it much easier to blame individuals for their actions rather than look at the wider systems and processes on these outcomes (such as the influence of religious doctrine). The mere fact that religious attacks are not randomly distributed across religious background of late should be evidence enough that it’s not random individual differences that are leading to these attacks and there are systemic religious issues.

What would you all need in theory to convince you that we should continue to strongly criticise religion, reform our education systems and culturally discourage the indoctrination of children with religious beliefs? My fear is that you couldn’t outline a criteria, such as I have above - and if so is it me or you that is not open to other ideas?

Apparently negative attitudes towards gay people and gay rights, attitudes towards women and women’s rights, and violent terrorist attacks are not enough. Not to mention a core issue that the ideas themselves are probably fictional.

I realise someone will make yet another comment on my ‘word salad’ or ‘verbal diarrhea’ or whatever. But I can’t help it - I like detailed writing and if you make the effort to read my post you should see that I do try to write in a clear/coherent manner.

Whenever I see a block of text you post, qolbinau, I roll my eyes because I can pretty much guess what you're going to say. And just to confirm my suspicions, I will read most of the post and find- surprise, surprise- I was right. You're a one-hit wonder who seems to think he's got a deep catalogue.

Why? That makes no sense. Nobody cares if you're a "non-believer".

Qolbinau, you've been told as bluntly as possible why people take issue with your posts on this issue. For someone who prizes their own enlightenment, you're pretty obtuse.

Well I’m going to neither block nor stfu about this issue - when the next person decides to make display of his peaceful religion, shooting and killing people who depicted the prophet in a caricature, flying planes into buildings, running over people in the street, detonating himself at a concert - I’ll be there ready to once again explain the root cause that no one seems to get.

When the next Christian tries to take away the rights of gay people, women. I’ll be there ready to criticise the barbaric beliefs that leads to these outcomes.

And I guess you have three options: continue to whine, block or participate in the discussion. If you honestly would prefer to just whine about me than block, be my guest.

And until that happens, how will your spend your abundant free time? Visit steak houses and go from table to table advocating veganism? Visit Colorado to stand on street corners droning on about the evils of marijuana usage? Attend soccer matches to rail about time wasted attending sporting events that could be used in the fields raising crops to feed the hungry?

It's clear people here aren't buying what you're selling. While clearly introspection and self-awareness are not your strong suits, still I must wonder, what's your end game? Why continue this path when it's clear it will lead you nowhere except receiving more rebukes by some and just being ignored by others who aren't laughing at you. And why spend time trying to influence people you've characterized as some of the most stupid you've ever dealt with? Why would you even care whether stupid people agree with you? Do you get some sort of self satisfaction out of this? Does this somehow reinforce your belief you're just simply smarter and more enlightened than everyone else? How do you see this as a meaningful use of your time when you stand no chance of achieving your goal to change minds?

I’ll be there ready to once again explain the root cause that no one seems to get.

Actually, most of us get it. We're just sick of your arrogant blatherings and don't say what you want to hear. So you replay your monologues over and over and over and over, expecting a different outcome every time and just insult and condescend everyone who doesn't feed your ego. You don't need to explain anything to us nor has anyone asked you to do so. You launch into the same schtick every time and then WHINE that nobody is playing your game by your rules. We all understand that you're full of yourself and honestly believe that you've got all the answers. We don't have to acknowledge any more than that. Tae your own advice and stop whining.

Does this somehow reinforce your belief you're just simply smarter and more enlightened than everyone else?

That's it in a nutshell.

Now I’m just fascinated that you all actually are continuing with this. You keep saying you don’t care about my posts yet still continue to reply to them. It doesn’t make any sense. If you truly don’t care then ignore or block me. Obviously I care about this issue, which is why I continue to post. What is in this for you?

And the claim I am insulting is so annoying/disingenuous. Yes, I called many of you stupid but only as a response to consistently being insulted by others here. I would prefer to actually stick to the topic at hand but none of you actually want to do that - when I tried above no one actually responded to any points.

If you don’t care then block or ignore me. You pretend you don’t care but you’re sitting on the edge of you seat in anticipation for my posts. It’s just bizarre.

And you’re still posting. I think it’s time to pray. Let’s recite some text from one of the wonderful, good-willed peaceful religions. I can’t imagine at all how this text could ever be used to convince someone to commit an act of violence. Not at all.

“Let those (believers) who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the Cause of Allah, and whoso fights in the Cause of Allah, and is killed or gets victory, We shall bestow on him a great reward.”

I don’t think I’m ‘superior’, but obviously I think that anti-religious sentiment is a more progressive attitude to hold given the devastating effects of religion on people, especially minorities - and given as our collective scientific and reasoning knowledge has increased over time the truthfulness of religious beliefs has never been in more question.

Fascinating in 2017 it is the people that stand up against these powerful forces, anti-intellectual ideas, violence and oppressive beliefs that have a mob running after them. Brave leaders of our movement like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hithens and Sam Harris deserve so much respect for challenging the status quo.
