I thought it was really interesting that Edward was so against the baby. Almost disturbing. By Bella keeping the baby, she showed her strength and her opinion which rarely happens with Edward. I think Edward feels that the baby is a danger to Bella and doesn't think of it as anything else for a long time. At the same time, I think it is neat that Edward forms a connection to the baby only after using his talent.

I have MAJOR qualms with the baby part for so many reasons.

As for the battle, they were so sure that they could not win against the Volturi that she couldn't have a climatic final battle. She dug herself into a hole. I think that getting rid of the Volturi would create a pretty boring immortality for the Cullens. Something had to have the possibility of happening.

Overall, I'm glad they didn't go into further detail with Edward and Bella's honeymoon. What I found so intriguing was the Jane Austenesque quality to the books. Once I found out that they were going to have a real honeymoon, I knew that the tone of the books would change and they did. Not that I'm against Edward and Bella having sex, but I liked that dynamic between the two of them. After they had their honeymoon, it wasn't the same in my opinion.

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

That's awesome, orangeskittles. Pretty much what i'm thinking, too. Twilight can really read like middling fanfic.

***Minor Spoiler but mainly a rant on my "insult" to Jane Austen***

I wasn't insulting Jane Austen. I love Jane Austen and find a million differences between her masterpieces and the Twilight series. One being that Stephenie Meyer's writing is below par for any published work - even if she knows how to tell a good story.

What I meant by the quality is that it is well known that all Jane Austen stories are chaste. Any sex happens off-stage (and is often a scandal), but the romance is still very much alive. I enjoyed that, in this YA series, no sex was sexier than all the sex in the world. By adding the sex, she took away that old world feeling and she essentially ruined my favorite part of the books.

Jacob's line about Edward being 'in' Bella made me laugh, just because it's lolz but also because I can imagine a bunch of TwiMoms turning red and having to explain that to their girls, lol.

But yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Breaking Dawn is fanfic. Not even good fanfic. And the funny thing is, I wasn't even really disappointed. I expected it. re: So I'm kind of obsessed with 'Twilight' by Stephenie Meyer...

*SPOILER*

I just rememebered one thing that bothered me. How was it that while Bella was pregnant the Cullens had no problem being around human blood while she drank it? And then later the baby drinks blood as well and none of them have a problem being around while in the other books they would typically go outside. Especially when Bella drops the cup and blood is splattered everywhere, later Rose is said to be sitting on the couch away from it, but did it not affect her at all? Especially Jasper who had the biggest problem is not even mentioned having to stay away while Renesmee is fed or Bella drank. Any insights?

Very inconsistent. I assumed that the cup with the straw contained the smell a bit, but I guess skin doesn't contain the smell... so I don't know. Didn't the baby have some type of metal bottle or something? If so that might be the reason behind that.

The comment by Edward about not choosing a clear cup for Bella did crack me up! But the whole still human Bella drinking blood completely grossed me out.

yeah that totally grossed me out too- yuck lol Also, they didn't mention if it was hard for her after it had been a few days since she hunted to be around Charlie or Sue. Actually they didn't mention her reaction to Sue at all, if it was harder since she wasn't really close to her.
Overall I thought the book had some good moments and some funny ones but did not live up to expectations. Had there not been such a build up I think I would have enjoyed it more.

Still working my way through it.......but I have to say, the" Jacob" chapters were entirely too long and boring. I'll admit, I even skipped ahead to the end of "book two" because I just couldnt' take it any more.... I know Stephenie Meyer loves the character of Jacob and I understand why she had him narrate that section (Bella was in no shape to do it herself) but damn it was boring....

I think the main reason was that during this section we had NO contact with the outside world. Everything that happened was pure fantasy land, and for me, the vampires in the human world with their quirks and preferences are what makes this interesting. We didn't hear about Charlie or Renee or any of her friends. Now that I'm in the third book it's picking up again.

Even though it was odd hearing it from Jacob's point of view, I wouldn't skip over it. There are some important things in there.

Also- anyone notice that weather was not mentioned once in this book except that it didn't rain in the wedding? In every other book the weather was mentioned pretty regularly.

Oh no..I didn't skip over it...well, I did...I skipped to the last chapter of Jacob's book, and then went back and read everything leading up to it. And I know she was only pregnant for 20 days or so, but those were 20 LONG days....re: So I'm kind of obsessed with 'Twilight' by Stephenie Meyer...

Yep - it is because there isn't much interaction with the humans in the book and therefore the weather doesn't matter as much as it did. Plus, there is so much freaking plot!

Yeah I thought it was all sort of rushed and ended abruptly.. I mean even the wedding was so short and I really didn't get a mental picture of it, she didn't even describe what she looked like or what Edward wore or anything! so disappointing re: So I'm kind of obsessed with 'Twilight' by Stephenie Meyer... Still love the series though!

Finally finished it..... Spoilers to follow.....

Enjoyed the last part much more than the middle. I didn't mind the ending, and I think there was a sort of climax...it just wasn't the big battle everyone was expecting. It was finding out that Nessie's not the only one of her kind.

My biggest peeve is we never got an explanation of exactly HOW Bella got pregnant. I mean, if a vampire's only fluid is his/her venom, why didn't she turn after her honeymoon? It just didn't make sense to me.

And did anyone else notice that Emmet and Rosalie kind of just disappeared toward the end of the book?

No they explained how Bella got pregnant. I would find exactly where in the book that was, but I don't have it with me (my grandmother is reading the series too, and I dropped it off to her today). It was the whole incubus/succubus thing. There's a whole part about how they knew it was possible but it just never occurred to them. Also, Bella reads about this kind of thing in Twilight after she talks to Jacob about the old legends. When she was researching vampires....

I was mildly irritated with the beginning of the book. Well, from when she wound up pregnant to when the Renesme was born. I kind of wanted to throw the book against a wall, but hoped it would improve and I wouldn't want to punch Stephenie Meyer in the face for writing a cop out last book when I was done. I didn't.

I love that the book is seething with sex, but not in an outward 'yeah Bella and Edward went at it all night' way. I love that she danced around it and left it to your imagination (and me, I have a very dirty imagination lol). And God, I laughed out loud when Bella realized she was covered in feathers and Edward admitted to biting several of them.

As for Renesme and Edward being against her from the beginning, I think it was only because he knew what this half-breed could possibly do to Bella. It was his love for her that he instinctively wanted to protect Bella. But once Renesme was born, he couldn't help but love her. You could tell the bond was there, but there wasn't a whole lot about it because he was so busy preparing for war, so to speak.

Jacob imprinting on Renesme? If he were a real person I MIGHT have had the same reaction as Bella. I kind of wanted to punch him. I was like are you KIDDING me?

I was marginally disappointed there was no big fight, though I wasn't completely expecting it to actually happen. And I will admit, I shed a little tear when Bella was saying goodbye to Renesme.

Overall, I think the ending was a little rushed, even though it was clear that Stephenie Meyer wanted to tie the series up in a nice little bow. I feel there could have been a bit more closure on all fronts.... and I hated that so many of the points in the book weren't as clear as they could have been. I mean, I'm old enough that I obviously understood it (how sad for me, at my age, if I didnt!) but I think certain things could have been articulated better.

I don't know that I'd go as far as to say I loved it, but I definitely didn't hate it. Nor did I love it as much as I loved Twilight.

This afternoon, I tried to start The Golden Compass series, but I just can't get the Cullens out of my imagination lol I'll have to wait a bit before I start anything else.

I do remember the incubus/succubus discussion, and I know they said they didn't think it could happen, but I'm still not understanding why she didn't turn after they had sex. I thought Stephenie Meyer had stated that venom was the only fluid in the vampire's body, so how does she get pregnant from the venom and not turn into a vampire herself? How does the I guess I'm just too into the biology side of the whole thing...LOL

I agree with your thoughts on Renesmee and Edward. I think he originally was just so worried for Bella that he couldn't think about anything else. Plus, this was a completely unknown situation, he had no idea what to expect. I do think that once he was able to hear her thoughts, it all became a bit realer to him that this might not be the monster he was expecting.

I did start to wonder if Stephanie Meyer was setting us up for "companion books", sort of like Anne Rice. So that we might get more stories of the Denali coven, or the Irish Coven...you know, a world beyond Edward and Bella.

Spoilers...

Finished today. I was not impressed. I liked the chapter AFTER Bella changed, but found the whole Burning chapter to be boring as hell. How long can she describe indescribable pain? The end was better than most of it, I guess. They introduced TOO many characters too fast, but some did intrigue me. I knew there would be no fighting when they were talking about it too much in the lead in. And while she said it's over, she really left it open for the possibility of sequels. You know the Volturi will not give up.

Really stupid book...lol.

Midnight Sun, coming in 2010 and told from Ed's POV.... Brace yourselves is all I've got to say.

Amen. I've been saying that for like, all of last week. The Twilight cast better get out of their contracts now for BD while they still can...

She has said there will be other books from point of views other than Bellas.. my guess is it will be from Nessie's or maybe Jacob's again but I'd put my money on Nessie if it will be years later. I am not all that excited about rereading the first book from Edward's point of view.. it could be interesting, but worth a whole book?
And yeah, way too many characters towards the end to keep them all straight- I love Jacob's line about needed an index haha

Well, Midnight Sun will be Twilight from Edward's POV. I don't know if she will be writing more, but she could. Not saying she SHOULD.

Yes, I about pissed myself when Edward called Jacob "son."

And yeah, the cast should run while they can. I don't know HOW they will make the 4th movie. It will have to be mostly CG. Bella would almost need to be played by two actresses. They would need 4 or 5 kids to play the kid in the span of weeks. I want to see the Amazons with their stretched limbs. Actually, I don't know how they will make the second movie when Jacob is supposed to be 6'6" or something. Are they gonna stretch the kid? He looks like a baby.

I think she was planning on making the 4 movies in rapid succession and then just releasing them over a span of time. Mostly because vampires don't age and waiting to make the films would make the actors older. I don;t know what the final decision was.

I'm indifferent about all of this. Though damn, I did love the books. I can't lie. It was like crack for me. I reiterate that I wasn't exactly thrilled with the final book, but it's all good. Crack nonetheless.

I think as of right now the cast has just signed on for two more... And I hope it stays that way.

I really think that Robby Patz could've eventually had an interesting career if he had stayed away from these films. He didn't need the help... and now he'll forever be Edward Cullen and the tweens will ruin the rest for him. Oh well.

Anyway! I also had a major fit of lolz, thinking back to when SMeyer had Bella's garter on her ANKLE at the wedding, because having it on her thigh would've been un-mormonly. ..But then like 200 pages later Ed went on to rip open Bella's uterus with his TEETH. Hahaha.

Well she had Bella "shimmy it down to her ankle"... and then of course Edward removed it with his teeth.

Which, im not gonna lie, is pretty hot. Especially if he's as hot as he is in my head LMAO (which for me, is not the guy they cast in the movie, but oh well)
