I was thinking about how they would make a movie. At first I thought it was impossible, but then I thought there could be some great tourtured Edward scenes when Bella is pregnant. And of course, they could make the wedding ten times better than described in the book, and the little confrontation between Edward and Jacob at the wedding would be great. I can't even imagine the birth scene - at all- because I found it so disgusting...
But overall, I think it could work-- especially if they have a neutral POV for the film - I don't want it to be the Jacob show. I didn't even like the written Jacob show... :-b
Honestly though I kinda want to imagine that this book doesn't exist....All I have to say is she better make it up by writing a fabulous Midnight Sun....

Posted: 8/6/08 at 7:02pmMy thoughts....keep it at 3 movies. End the third with the Wedding and then end with a shot of Edward turning Bella. We never have to see her turn..we know what's going to happen and if they should decide to make the 4th movie, they could somehow work in the pregnancy and all the rest. But if they don't, it's pretty neatly ended right there.

Posted: 8/6/08 at 9:58pmI'd be worrying about how New Moon would work as a movie before thinking about Breaking Dawn. New Moon is, like, 450 pages of Bella feeling sorry for herself before there's any plot development. 3 movies would be more than enough for the series unless there's a lot of embellishment, because not a lot actually happens in the later books. The formula seems to be that the first two-thirds of the book is comprised of relationship stuff, and the plot gets rolling in the last third. That's perfectly fine in book form and will work fine for the Twilight movie since there needs to be time to build up and introduce the characters, but it could pose a problem later on. Posted: 8/6/08 at 10:04pmI figured they would bring in what is going on with Edward for the New Moon movie. You know - switching between Bella and Edward. I completely agree with you on the formula on the books. There was a little more action in the fourth though...

Posted: 8/6/08 at 10:49pmYeah but if they showed Edward being upset that he left Bella it would kind of ruin the surprise that he actually DID love her and all that... I don't see any reason why the books can't be made as is.. but I hate when books are made into movies and change a lot (cough harry potter cough) haha

Maybe they could make it so you are doubting whether he does or not, but you are keeping tabs on him. Doesn't he visit Tanya's family during that time? They could show his journey, but just enough- not like Edward sobbing in the woods. And then of course there are the Edward visions to factor in.
I think there will be some major changes to the series due to the point of view issues... I mean, number one, we can see Edward like he is where as Bella is seeing him through rose-colored glasses in the book. That right there will be a major change between the movies and the books.

I snapped, and actually bought 'Breaking Dawn'. This is the first time I've spent money on a Stephenie Meyer book, so she'd better be happy! (The first two were borrowed from the store I worked in, and the publisher sent me the third for free because I worked in a bookshop and asked nicely.
)
I'm actually pleased with how it turned out. Oh, it was absolutely terrible, but after everything I'd read online, I was expecting it to be EVEN WORSE. The first two books were pretty much terrible fanfiction (some ff.net member will be serving Meyer with papers any day now), but once we'd got through the really horrifically boring wedding, tedious pregnancy, and Jacob (who's meant to be my favourite character!) being dull, and some genuine conflict was introduced, it improved enough for me to almost say I enjoyed it. Yes, it was terrible, but it could have been worse. ^_^

Yeah... all I have to say is... what the hell.
I mean really...
I zapped through it on a plane ride to Mexico, but just... the plot was like, c'mon. If any of you have ever read the Phantasy and Progeny published Fanfics, that was EXACTLY like it.
I actually enjoyed Jacob's turn, I love his character. all of the titles are really funny, and he just kind of grounds the situation.
I did enjoy the other vampires though. I want to know more about Kate and the vampire dude who was interested in her. and the Irish clan. I honestly just wanted to know more about them.
Over all... it was a read... but it was basically awful....

Posted: 8/11/08 at 8:21pmI thought I'd at least like Jacob's part as he's the only main character I find tolerable, but it ended up being pretty boring. The one thing that seems original and interesting to me in the books is the werewolf mythology Meyer writes, and while there were some interesting things (Jacob breaking off and forming a new pack, the way the thought-sharing worked), there could've been more.

Just to let everyone know, the Twilight movie has been pushed up to November 21st. This is a result of HP pushing back, but Meyer makes it clear on her website that Twilight had nothing to do with HP pushing their date back.
That being said - I'm EXCITED!!!!!

I wonder if the Twilight movie will do respectable numbers after its opening weekend. If not, I wonder if that will affect HP's release. Probably not, since Bestie's probably right about WB staggering its summer blockbusters...

I'm not sure how this thread got bumped back up without any recent posts (unless the most recent post was deleted), but it reminds me that I was going to post about Stephenie Meyer's snitfit.
http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/midnightsun.html - the full story is to be found here. It makes me laugh; why DO female vampire-novel writers get so snitty with the online faction of their audiences? XD

I haven't read any of these books, and really had no interest in doing so. However, by sheer coincidence, I met the actress playing Victoria in the movie, Rachelle LaFevre, over the weekend and talked to her for about 10-15 minutes. It was the first time I ever met a *movie star*, so it was exciting.
Anyway, I may see the movie now.
I realize I added nothing to this conversation, but I wanted to share.

Posted: 9/1/08 at 6:20pmI'm not exactly Meyer's biggest fan, but I didn't see any snittiness in that post unless she's edited it. I mean, I'd be pissed if someone I trusted leaked my unfinished, unedited manuscript that was intended for publication, too. And she was generous enough to make it available to the people who haven't already downloaded it.

Just for the record, this wasn't a small leak or rumors of plot. This was 264 pages of a novel that she was intending to publish. That is a huge leak. And it's not like finding out the plot is the drive behind the leak. Midnight Sun is Twilight from Edward's point of view. So the only thing driving one to read it is basically the writing/characterizations...which was leaked.
I'm pretty upset that it is on hold due to this leak. I was really looking forward to it, and after reading the manuscript she posted, it is even better than I expected.

I read all of these books last month. I read them so clearly I must've been enjoying them. I was a big fan of Jacob (Bella needs to freaking go away and Edward is boring as hell) but the last book was just...
so...
bad...
Ugh.
PS Weez, I know this is from the first page but I read Haruki Murakami and Dan Brown and I read Twilight!

I posted about the leak this morning, which is why it got bumped up... I have no idea why it was deleted but here is what I wrote
Anyone else read the Midnight Sun leak yet? Stephenie posted it on her website, its just chapters 1-12 but I have to say I really enjoyed it! It wasn't just a retelling from Edward's point of view but really different and interesting. I am sad she won't be finishing it any time soon now but glad to have gotten to read some of it! I really felt Edward's frustration at not being able to hear Bella's thoughts and even pulled out Twilight a few times to figure out what the heck was going on in her head haha

I think it's pretty snitty...
To say "I'm just... too sad to write this anymore because I'm so angry that I'd kill off the Cullens."
Most writers, (at least in my naive head) write for the love of the characters. She said herself she was curious about writing this and just wanted to see what this would have been like thru Edward's eyes, so I believe she started out with an intention of just fun. But her response just seemed like a money hungry author who doesn't care about getting her story out there to her fans.
I just lack respect for her as an author. I enjoy her story telling (sometimes, she's very descriptive, which I love, but then she just... over does the same idea too many times) but her plots kind of suck... and i just don't comprehend how she's being deemed the next 'JK Rowling'.
And sorry for this random fangirl vent, it's something I've been wanting to get out!

It seemed to me like her post was aimed at the large audience of pre-teen and teenage girls who are the main fan base for the books. She seemed to be explaining how copyright, and digital media and plagarism work for an audience who just doesn't see what's wrong with "making my own copy".
And if she was a bit snotty and pissed off about the whole thing, well, she had a right to be. Someone betrayed her trust and released confidential information. Although, I think she really needs to talk to someone about her security, since it seems she's had pretty major leaks of her novels before. In that respect (as well as many, many others!) she's no JK Rowling.

I for one do not like the book Twilight. Meyer could have at least visited the location before writing about it.
There are no old-growth trees surrounding Forks. They were cut down generations ago. Forks is immediately surrounded by third-growth forests.
There is no 4-lane route to Port Angeles and on a mostly two-lane road (which it actually is) you cannot drive between Forks and Port Angeles in 20 minutes, if you try you'll end up in the bottom of Lake Crescent (600 feet at its deepest point).
There are no tide-pools on First Beach!
The Quileute river is only one mile long. It does not run under any bridges.
At least give the place a fictional name if you are going to f... it up so badly.
I could go on....

The movie... actually looks... decent.
I mean the first book is the only decent one if you really think about it, and I'm SO happy we're not going to be in Bella's head anymore.
And I think the cast looks great. We'll see how it is. Smeyer, you can have 10 more dollars of my money because this is the only movie I'll be seeing.
