I know, I am VERY late, this book has been out for quite some time. I was however, living out of the country at the time. I also tried to avoid it due to the constant comments I heard about it. In my unsuccessful effort to be cool and different I didn't read it. But I finally gave in and I must say I did not know what I was missing. I just finished "New Moon" and I am so excited to start "Eclipse." I'm such a nerd, I know, a romantic, pathetic, man, but I thoroughly enjoy reading these. I cannot wait for the movie either. I can't believe I'm admitting this haha. But I have never been a big reader, only reading when I was forced for school. Anyway, anyone else a fan? Or am I the only dork here?

I have a secret crush on Jasper. Shhhh, don't tell anyone though.

I became slightly obsessed after devouring all three books in as many days a few weeks ago. They don't hold up extremely well to intense examination, but they are certainly fluffy good fun. I'm counting the days until Breaking Dawn! Glad to see I'm not the only BWW person who loves these books
PS--Eclipse is made of awesome and Robert Pattinson is teh hottness. And now I must hang my head in shame at the fangirl-ness of both those statements.

I'm not a fan, but I know something about the movie, not so much about the book. The author's "Forks Washington" is nothing like the real one, and the film wasn't even made there. I went there out of curiosity. I guess that's all I'm going to say now.

God, it's so bad. My friend's little sister got her to read them, and then she got me to read them, and then I forced MY sister to read them. It's like a disease.
They're really not good, you guys. But they are good for the LOLz.

Posted: 6/4/08 at 6:05amI just finished New Moon last week. My nieces actually got me to read them and I enjoy them quite a bit. They are what they are....light and entertaining. Even for 600 pages, they're a quick read.

When it first came out in the UK, it had an AWFUL cover. So my friend Kelley and I just ignored it (we worked together in a bookshop, and usually things like 'Twilight' are our bread and butter). Then they brought it out with the black cover with the hands and the apple, and we both immediately jumped on it and read it from cover to cover. And we loved it! It's a bit JK Rowling, in that it's not especially well written or original, but you just find yourself wanting to know the characters and can't stop reading. I did recommend it to a great many customers, but I'd always preface it with "if you love the idea of a schoolgirl/vampire romance". I REALLY can't see Stephenie Meyer converting anyone who generally reads Haruki Murakami or Dan Brown or whatever.
I don't *really* like the way fangirls are swarming all over it though. I can't find a logical explanation for feeling like this, but when fangirls start to swarm all over something, I start to go off it. Same thing happened with 'Wicked'. I guess fangirls generally act like squealing idiots, and I'd really rather people didn't associate me with them or something. I don't know.
I totally love Jacob WAY more than Edward. Edward can bite me. (Uh, never mind... I'm sorry about that... Jacob is WAY better though.)

Yeah. I read all of them from the library, but I'm starting to scare myself with the prospect that I might actually purchase Breaking Dawn.

Agreed. I mean, I can't actually support Jacob being with Bella because my niece and nephew are named Jacob and Bella, but otherwise I would.

Posted: 6/4/08 at 7:17pmI'm a member of the target audience and I actually really hate these books. I just fail to see what's so great about a couple of two-dimensional Mary Sues falling in "luv," particularly when one needs to drink hemoglobin in order to survive.

Posted: 6/5/08 at 10:09pmThey're really romantic...not exactly literature, but highly romantic. A girl next door falls in love with an amazingly romantic ready to die for her handsome vampire. It's like a really well written romance novel...without the explicit naughty bits.

Posted: 6/5/08 at 10:11pmReally? I think it's fairly well written...at least in terms of character. Yes, unoriginal, but still fresh in it's own way.

Even without the explicit naughty bits, I find the meadow scene in "Twilight" to be one of the hottest things I've ever read. She has a talent for writing about things that almost happen that are equally as satisfying.
Although there better at least be a paragraph about the honeymoon in "Breaking Dawn"...

I'm a huge Twilight fan. I admit that the books are not GREAT literature, but I love it anyway!
CMoore, if you are buying Eclipse, be sure to pick up the new special edition --- it has the first chapter of Breaking Dawn -- and it's good!
I am definitely looking forward to the movie. It addition to the trailer which is available everywhere. There's a new clip on the MTV website.

Posted: 6/6/08 at 12:18amOh hermione, don't worry I bought the special edition haha. I agree with most of what's been said, it's not like amazing, profoundly written literature, but it is amazingly romantic. Seriously the passion in these books is so real, it's crazy. It makes me want to get married tomorrow and make a lot of babies haha.

Don't count on it. The LDS would likely frown on such a thing.
I am also firmly planted in Team Edward.

^ very good fluffy summer reading :) I've only read the first book but plan on buying the other two (soon to be three?) very soon. I don't know exactly what happens plot-wise, but I have a feeling I'll end up on team Edward...hehe...

I love these books, my roommate convinced me to try them and...I have a Bella shirt and an Edward hat now
. I think they are fun and well written. And her Forks and actual Forks don't have to be the same thing. It is a fiction book.
I cannot wait for Breaking Dawn to come out!
And I am a member of Team Edward. I kinda hate Jacob a lot, mostly because of his immaturity compared the Edward

Posted: 6/6/08 at 7:33pmI have to admit, I tried to read it and I'm still trying to figure out what kind of crack Stephenie Meyer is putting in these books to actually make people remotely like them. All I really got was writing that's equivalent to that of a seventh grader's and what sounded like an extremely unhealthy relationship.

Posted: 6/6/08 at 9:44pmSounds perfect. Lately I've found myself slogging through critically-acclaimed books, but right now I'm in the mood for a page-turner. And if there's vampire angst, I'm so there.

Posted: 6/6/08 at 10:00pmWell, the romantic lead is controlling, stalkery, and has a condescendingly misogynistic manner that's played off as charmingly old fashioned. If you're okay with all these things, it is the perfect summer read.
