I haven't really seen anything about what's airing when and from where...though I haven't really looked either. I think I shall make that my mission for tomorrow at work. I'd imagine at some point in the day there'll be performances happening simultaneously.

Yes, that can be your mission tomorrow at "work". How are you getting on with your oddball colleague?
I'm pretty sure they're cutting back and forth. I don't know how it works out with simeltaneous events, though.
Oh, and Ellie, if you're so enamored with the Live 8 dvd (so much so that it required two identical posts), you're welcome to buy it for me as a birthday present.

Oh my god, Mabs. The irony is I was just listening to the U2 MSG CD you sent me that opened with Sgt. Pepper on my way home, and then I checked this thread and saw THIS! Me thinks Adam would look swell in pink though, wouldn't he? Larry...eh...not so much. I've got to tape all 24 hours of this!!
I wonder what U2 song Paul will perform...SBS? IWF? STYCMIOYO? (Naah, maybe not. It's more poignant as just a solo for Bono.) One seems to be a given. (Maybe it'll be the closing song for all the artists to perform together?)
The anticipation is killing me.
Well, I'm at "work"...an hour+ late...Shhhhhh! Oh well, my supervisor isn't even here yet, so I guess it't not really a big deal. Besides, I get a ride from someone else in the office, so if she's late, guess what that makes me?? So, I'm off to see if I can find something on Live8.
Oh, apparently Bono was on Charlie Rose last night. I missed it. What a pity! Oh well, I think I saw four different guests listed, so he probably wouldn't have had a whole lot of time on air anyway.
ETA:
The MTV/ VH1 feed, which will run from noon until 8 p.m., will also air on mtvU. Relevant highlights will additionally run on July 3 on CMT and VH1 Classic.
In addition to showing select live coverage, the programming will include interviews with fans on site at some of the eight venues hosting shows and a look at what is expected from the upcoming G8 summit, where the topic of debt relief will likely take center stage (see "50 Cent, Jay-Z, Mariah, U2, Coldplay On Board For Massive Live Aid Sequel ").

No way are they going to let U2 do 6 songs! You know I love them, but really! That's hardly fair. I'd think 4 (including the teaming w/ McCartney) would be good. One, Streets, and Crumbs?? Crumbs seems fitting, but I highly doubt that they'd bust it out for the first time live like that. We'll see!

Okay, I'm off now! I'm recording Live 8 and should be able to transfer it to dvds; hopefully that works, we'll see. I still don't know if I'll have internet access in my flat, so I don't know how often I'll be around, but I'll miss all you guys! Don't let this thread die!
*hugs to everyone*
*hugs Elphie* Travel safe, and try to get on-line to at least let you know you made it half-way round the world in one piece!
Talk to you later!
Oh, and since I'm here...I've been reading a bunch of stuff since this morning that U2's only singing "One."...well, other than Stg. Pepper's. I think somewhere between 2 and 6 songs seems fair. We'll see tomorrow!
I cannot wait until the unavoidable CD release of this, if that's really the set list.
Have a safe trip, #1! I'll be taping the whole lot of Live 8 (we've got something like 18 hours of coverage altogether) so if it's not too monotonous, I can make copies (or at least copies of the highlights) for you guys! CTV's getting a live feed from each Live 8 venue.
I suppose it's not necessarily unfair for U2 to get more songs than everyone else...Bono's been the main figurehead for it, after all. (No bias here, nosiree!) I wonder what the finale with Paul will entail. I still think a "Do They Know It's Christmas"-like recording of "One" with all the stars would be fab.

That would indeed be fab. Pity Celine can't be there.
Bye, Elphie! Have a fun ninety-three hour flight! Enjoy your five months in NZ, and hurry back to tell us all the details. Of course, you're long gone now so you won't be reading this, but...meh. Toodles!
Celine's performing at Live 8 in Barrie, Ontario. Which made me feel a little bit better that I couldn't go to the show. Strangely, Sarah Maclaughlan (sp?) - aka. The Canadian chanteuse we don't want to deport to the States - is performing in Philly.
Only 3 more hours until the live coverage starts in Japan! Woo!
ETA: Could this be? Canada has something that America doesn't have?? We've got coverage from 7am-12amEST (17 hours!!) on CTV, and the States only has a 2 hour highlights special at 8pmEST? (And 7 measly hours from 12pm-7pm on MTV.) Whoa. Let me dwell on this for a moment.
Tiff, I hope you're taping all this, because I'm not sure I'll be able to get all of it. Apparetnly U2's played (a rather ****ty set, IMHO) Beautiful Day, Vertigo, One...Ok, ONE song that has anything remotely to do w/ the cause. No Streets? No Crumbs? Vertigo?? Why, boys? Why?!?!?
Lordy. I set my alarm clock for 4am so I'd be able to see Paul and U2 live, then went straight to work and fell asleep right after, otherwise I would have posted on here first!
Don't worry, I taped all 17 hours of coverage (I think the last 4 hours are an extensive "highlights" special). I haven't watched all of it yet though. Anyway, I was still in a sleepy haze when Sgt. Pepper was playing, but unfortunately, there was nary a pink bandmate in sight.
Then they cracked out "Beautiful Day", which I thought was lacklustre, save for them releasing the doves at the beginning of the song. CTV's cameras panned back so you could see the doves soaring above the crowd, and that was a bit moving. The performance itself was pretty low energy though.
I don't think the boys really picked up steam until "Vertigo", which, even though it's not amongst my top U2 faves, is great for rousing the crowd, and you could see Bono and the masses getting into it. And Bono looked good. I dig him in black.
"One" wasn't as moving as I thought it would be, to be honest. It was sort of schitzophrenic to go from something as pop-y as "Vertigo" to a song that should be subdued, provocative and pretty much be the "message" of Live 8. I still think it would have been best saved for the end of the concert, with either U2, or U2 and the rest of the performers singing it.
All in all, I was pretty disappointed with U2's turn-out here, but everything's for a good cause so I can't rag about it too much. I was so underwhelmed though, that even though I squealed when Bono first cracked out a snippet of "Unchained Melody", I was still left feeling a bit cold.
Sorry if this is sort of incoherent. I just woke up.

Jeebus, you gals are hard to please. Stop being so critical, you hard-nosed whores! I, myself, thought U2 were absolutely fabulous, as usual. I thought the opening with Paul was great, if a bit short, and Beautiful Day, Vertigo and One were all very palatable. Bono looked a bit nervous, which I thought was sweet. 10/10, boys! Hooray!
'CTV's cameras panned out...'
I think every country got the same live feed, rather than each TV network send their own cameras, crew, directors etc. But I could be wrong, I guess.
"Sgt. Pepper" WAS great, but it's saying something when "Vertigo" was their strongest song sans Paul. And I DID like the touch with the doves in "Beautiful Day"! But "One"...meh. Maybe if I wasn't watching it on a half hour of sleep, I'd be more forgiving. I'll re-watch it later. (Happy now, runt?)
Oh, and ladies, I'm thinking of buying a "Make Poverty History" bracelet, which actually IS different than the "One" bracelets. (And I think the former are the ones that article was referring to about the sweatshop background.) HOWEVER - the ones for the Canadian MPH campaign are union-made in Canada! (We're more humane than the American barbarians, you see.) #1 and Mabs, would you like me to send you one when I get them?

Happy 4th of July!
Whee, it's my birthday! Yay me! I've set up a gift list at Tiffany's in Manhattan, but don't worry - anything over $5,000 is fine. Hooray for Ellie! (Where's my birthday thread and kind words? )
Hey all! Just popping in quickly to say hi. I don't have internet access in my flat and I can't yet log on to the University computers so I'm using a computer in the International Student office and there's other people waiting. Anyway, I'm here! And frozen. I can see my breath when I'm inside my flat. It's terrible. But the city is really nice and it is SOOOO beautiful here. Two of my flatmates are here; one's a girl from France and the other's a guy from Vermont. He's quite possibly one of the most gorgeous people I've ever seen. And two New Zealand guys are also living with us but won't be here 'til next weekend. Last night for the fourth of July we went to a barbeque, which was fun. There are lots of Americans here. And I legally purchased alcohol for the first time, which was a thrill! Anyway, I gotta go. I skimmed your comments on Live 8, and I can't wait to see it.
Just a quickie...glad to see you made it in one piece, Elphie...Be sure to keep us posted on your hot Vermonter!! I'll chat later...in a bit of a hurry.
Happy belated b-day, Ellie!!!
Oops, I missed this thread yesterday! Glad you had a safe flight, #1! How are your flat mates? No fighting yet? You getting any play with the Vermont guy? Do we need to send you out a care pack? (U2 boots and Trojans?)

What an event!
Patrick Wilson Fans --New "UnOfficial Fan Site". Come check us out!
I'm bored and don't feel like doing any work, so I'm killing a few minutes here before I go back...fun, fun, fun organizing decades worth of studies and reports!! The fact that I'm probably the most disorganized person in the world makes this particular problem a bit...interesting.
Hmmm, what to say?? U2 at Live8...I finally watched the whole thing (w/ an interview before their performance) online. A couple of things..."McCartney's never performed Sgt. Pepper's before" according to Bono??? Ummm...I seem to recall hearing it at the concert I went to in 2002! I thought all the songs came off pretty well, I just don't think they were necessarily the best choices...though it seems like most people didn't pick songs that were directly linked to the event/cause. My friend saw them all on VH1 in the afternoon while I was out (had a tape in for MTV and it got screwed up, so I missed a lot) and she was complaining that the snippet of Blackbird was painfully bad after Beautiful Day. I didn't think it was that bad...I think they've done better, but it certainly wasn't cringeworthy. I thought One was really nice, and Vertigo had great energy (even if it was a totally random selection...though I did love "give us what we F*CKing want")
Oh, I guess Bono/U2 won that stolen Joshua Tree stuff lawsuit. I was rather surprised, to be honest. I thought they would have thought that said that if it was really that important to Bono/the band, they should have stepped up and said something about the missing stuff sometime in that 20 year spanse of time...I don't know. I didn't hear a whole lot about it, so maybe they didn't realize it was missing at all until she was going to sell them...whatever, the judge basically said he didn't believe her testimony (something about Bono giving her the hat, etc. after the last show of the tour while running around backstage in his underwear...personally, I don't see where that'd be so far-fetched!
Guess that's about it...Tiff, I hope your coverage in Canada was better than what we had here in the States. VH1 had horrible coverage. I saw Madonna and Mariah Carey at least 3 times each, and I didn't see anything from The Killers, Scissor Sisters, or Keane (who I heard were surprisingly wonderful) among others. I also heard Coldplay's Fix You was particularly good, but all I saw from them was In My Place on an ABC recap special (also the only place I saw U2 as well!)
OK, guess that's really it. Talk to y'all later.

Have fun at 'work', Mabel! Is that harpsichord-loving oddball still beside you?
I still say U2 were great at Live 8. But how come The Killers only got ONE song, while that deranged banshee Mariah Carey got at least eighteen, each of which went on fpr six months?
Nope, Ellie...the harpsichord lovin' oddball has been moved. What a pity! I see very little of him now. Excuse me, whilst I wipe a tear from my eye. *sniff*
What did The Killers end up doing at Live8? I missed them entirely and haven't really seen anything about their performance (though I did read somewhere that they only got one song...pretty bogus if you ask me! The coverage sucked big time, all around. If (and let me preface this by saying, I love 'em...BUT if) I saw Green Day do We Are the Champions one more time I think I would have screamed! Surely they did 1 or 2 other songs that could have been aired. I saw WATC at least 4 times (either in its entirety or in an extended snippet). Oh, and Ms. Carey needed to go. Could she have worn a trampier get up?!?!? I think not. I swear, if she bent over any more those little kids behind her were going to get an eye-full!!
I think I'm calling it quits at work. I did more "work" today than I've done in the last month combined, and none of my supervisors are here, so I think I shal just count down the minutes until 4:30.
Oh, I hope they aired The Killers on MTV, I taped their coverage.
How was Sgt. Pepper's? Cool outfits? I'll probably be pissed about who they aired and didn't air when I eventually watch it.
I'm sorry I missed your birthday, Ellie! Happy belated b-day! How old are ya?
I finally got my ID card so I can use the school's computer lab now!
Elphie!!! How's life in NZ (thus far)...other than cold??
I taped some of MTV too, but I still haven't checked out the tape.
ARG! I'm trying to figure out what's wrong w/ my DVD copying right now. I've got to go from DVD->VHS->DVD and it's skipping up a storm.
Aaaanyway...I expect full dish-age on the hot Vermonter. You know, NH is right next door!
Good afternoon ladies! (It feels like evening already - I've been up since 6amPST watching the CNN coverage!)
Sgt. Pepper's was good - no snazzy outfits on the band, but their backup "marching" band had very bright, solid-color costumes!
Ellie turned 91, but she's telling people she's "19". (Mabs, you know she's going to be dead weight if we want to go bar-hopping in October!)
Oh, and everyone - click Namo's signature and sign the petition if you haven't already, will ya? (I'm still contemplating buying the 10 One bands to give out. I'm going to order the MPH bands today - do you think their "youth" and "adult" sizes are the same as the One ones?)
I was thinking of doing some fund-raising for ONE or MPH and selling the bracelets to friends, co-workers, family, etc. for a few dollars more than what the site sells them for, and the donating all the proceeds to the campaign. I just don't know whether I should be content just having them wear the bands, and in some small sense, already raising awareness when people notice them and ask about the campaign. (It's so gratifying when people ask me what my One band means - when I rattle on about it, they realize I'm not just wearing it as a fashion statement.)
