Oh thank god, I just found my pair of MSG tickets (section 300). Whew. I was about to have some serious anxiety diarrhea. Don't worry Mabel, my half of both of your pairs were stuck on my headboard all along. Those puppies aren't going anywhere! (Except for New York City...with me...I hope.)

Tiff, that's Keane you're thinking of. Is that song called "Somewhere to Begin"? Anyway, I know the song you're talking about and it's Keane. They performed that on Live8 and it's seriously overplayed in the U.S.

Nothing U2-related, but my fam's here and I've been having a great time with them today! So I'll probably won't be around for the next week. Don't miss me too much. Not keen on Keane.

Just a quickie to say that I got to NH in one piece last night...in incredibly long bus ride...not fun.

I got the ZooTV DVD and popped it in last night just to see if it works, and it does (cause it was kind of scratchy) and I only signed up for being a Premium Member for 1 month earlier this summer, because I'd clicked on something that said I had to be a Premium Member to look at it (guess it wasn't all that important and not worth the $2, since I don't remember what it was) but it still says I'm a Premium Member *shrug*

Oh, and I finally got my application in for that Theater Talk new theater scout thing, and it went through, and I got an e-mail back saying they'll be calling to schedule an appointment for an interview in September (the job doesn't start until October 1st). It gave me a slight confidence boost, since the ad said they'd only call to schedule an interview if they found the writing sample submitted to be mildly coherent. After the nonsense I'd been doing all summer, I'm quite pleased with myself for being mildly coherent.

And on the Keane front, I guess I've found that I kind of like them more as background music for driving or chilling out writing in my journal (that especially) so I sort've found a place to wedge them in to my routine...or whatever, so I'm fine w/ seeing them. Though, like Alanis (who you all know I LOVE) w/ the Rolling Stones, I don't think they're necessarily the best choice to be opening. I'd rather see them at Joe's Pub or something.

Anyway, I'm off. Talk to you later, folks!

Hooray for you arriving in one piece, Mabs. I like bus journeys though, especially long ones. It's like, for those however-many hours, you have no worries at all.

An iPod helps, though.

And I liked that Kaiser Cheifs song, Jez. Mabel and Elphie totally ignored it, the bitches. Not keen on Keane. Updated On: 8/27/05 at 03:01 PM

Yoo hoo! Speak of the devil, Keane is the musical guest on SNL tonight. (Repeat, the one hosted by Paris Hilton.) So now I KNOW I'll be asleep by 12:15, since I'll be tuning in and buddy's voice induces drowsiness better than Tylenol Flu! But I thought I'd give Mabel a head's up - you've got 3 hours and 20 minutes to switch on your TV!

Good job on the Theatre Talk interview, Mabs! How many competitors do you have?

Patronus, I am sans iPod too, and all the sadder. I just can't justify spending that much money on an mp3 player!

I just found one of the U2 Special Edition iPods for pretty cheap.

I am leaning towards buying it. Thoughts? It's pretty and black and has U2 sigs engraved on the back.

I don't have an iPod either, Pat and Tiff. I do have a Dell DJ though (a DellPod) and I rather like it! It's 30 gig and cost less (at least when I got it on sale...not really sure how much they are regularly) than a 4 gig iPod mini!!! I have 170 albums on there now, and I've still got almust 20 gigs left. I've got a couple dozen more to put on this week while I'm home, and I haven't really had a chance to put any of my live shows on. So, I'm sure I'll have dozens more of those to put on when I'm back at school (U2 and bunches of others). I've also found that the live shows play better on my DellPod than friends who have put stuff on their iPods. The friend I was living w/ this summer had an Alice Ripley concert on iPod mini and it was AWFUL! I have the same show on mine, and it plays perfectly. It's not the best quality, because the recorder I used to make it wasn't great, but it's still halfway decent, and it plays fine on my player.

I'm so thrilled to be home and actually doingstuff on the weekend! I've spent the whole summer just veggingo on the couch, which is fine every once in a while, but it was getting mighty old. I went out shooting pool for a while yesterday, and I even won a couple of games (kind of by default from scratches on the 8 ball, but still! A win's a win!! Not keen on Keane. ) and I went to see a double feature of March of the Penguins and Mad Hot Ballroom at our little Town Hall Theater. It's so cute, and I just LOVE going there! I wish there was someplace similar in Manhattan or Brooklyn (with the $5 evening ticket too!) Both films were excellent, btw. I highly recommend them both!

Oh, and Ellie, I have every intention of checking out Jez's link to the Kaiser Chiefs, but as it's a video (correct?) I think it'll have to wait until I get back to school, as we have dial up at home, and it'll take forever and a day to watch it.

That's interesting about the quality difference. I wonder if it had more to do with your friend's headphones than the actually player?

I read yesterday when doing some research on the IPod that Rio is going out of business and they actually site the fact that they can't keep up with the sale of the IPod as the reason for that.

Ipod is becoming a monopoly.

I actually bought one when they first came out for around $500 and decided that it wasn't worth it to me. So, I promptly sold it on eBay when they were still sold out everywhere.

The U2 Ipod is very pretty, I found it for like $170 new. Problem is, it's only 20 GB. I wonder if that's going to be an issue?

Not keen on Keane.

I felt that I had to post the picture.

BTW - I know what you mean about the lounging on the couch thing Mabel. I am torn on what to do right now. On one hand, I just want to lay around my apartment and do nothing since the high in the Valley is 108 for the 3rd consecutive day.

On the other hand, Little Shop of Horrors tour is closing today down in Orange County and I wouldn't mind going to the matinee.

Also, there is a part of me who'd really like to go to Disneyland this morning - so I am torn.

Well, Pat, your options sound infinitely more exciting than mine! I was going to go to the beach, but it looks like it's supposed to rain this afternoon, and why drive all the way to Maine only to have it rain and not be worth it...well, it's too late to go now anyway, so I guess that's officially out of the picture. I haven't been to the beach in 2 years, or something crazy like that!...And I've gotten rather pastey. Not keen on Keane.

I would have been tempted to go for the U2 iPod, but I'm liking my Dell...Elphie has a U2 iPod, so maybe she could fill you in on how she likes it. $170 isn't bad at all! Aren't they regularly $350 or something? Did you find it used, and does it have the catalogue on it? I wonder if they'll all drop in price now that they're coming out w/ the new sexy ones w/ the color screen/photo options, etc. Frankly, I don't need all this high tech crap in stuff like cell phones and mp3 players, etc. The fact that I've got a cell phone or whatever is enough and and of itself. I've got a camera. I don't need a camera in my phone. My cell is pretty much on its last leg. I've had it for years and it's battery life is awful, and I just got a new one that is just way too shiney and fancy for me. I almost want to return it and just get a new battery for the old one. I'm never going to use any of that other crap anyway, so why bother having it!?

Anyway, gotta go...I must find something to do, even if the beach is out.

I actually got it on Amazon marketplace.

There was one on there for $100 earlier today, but it seemed a bit sketchy.

This one was $165 still sealed in the box. It is a U2 Photo Ipod so I can have the album titles on display.

It doesn't come with the complete library on it, but there is a $50 off coupon if I buy it at ITunes. Not sure if I am going to.

Very exciting! I am already downloaded ITunes and stared putting my must have albums in there.

Ah, speaking of sketchy...perhaps my IPod purchase was too good to be true.

I woke up this morning with a message from Amazon saying that my money had been refunded and the sellers account was blocked.

THEN, I get an email from the seller asking for a direct payment through a site.

I think I'll pass on that and move BACK to the IPod drawing board.

Yeah, that does sound pretty sketchy. At least Amazon refunded your money right away! I'd be so scared if the cash was in limbo and the seller started looking kind of on the outs...I wonder if the price will drop significantly now that they're releasing the revamped, retooled ones? It might be worth waiting it out a bit longer to see if you can get one new from apple or Best Buy or something at a reduced price. I think it's almost worth spending the extra money (unless you got a great deal from someone on Amazon or eBay) just for the security of having a warranty, etc. I'm sure something doable will pop up though!

Hello!

Patronus, glad your iPod transaction worked out (well, it didn't, but at least you got your money back!). Bummer, because that would have been a great deal! We sell them up in Canada for about US$335. What other site did your person want you to pay the money through? PayPal is quite reliable if you're buying through eBay (which I wouldn't recommend for this kind of thing anyway).

Oooh, and better news - Mabel, New York might work out after all! I got into a long discussion with my dad about my career goals for the near and distant future, and even though he's still in denial about me wanting to pursue things other than law, I told him about my entertainment and media aspirations, and let it 'slip' that I had 'some friends' who were interning in New York, and offered to put me up in October so I can pursue some internship opportunities with a few networks. I sort of took all of the opportunities you were considering, and made them seem like a sure thing. And you've now become 'multiple people'. I want to be a part of it! New York, Neeew Yoooork! So it was more like, "I've got friends who're interning at Conan and Guilding Light and SNL (I just wanted to throw SNL in there), as well as another friend who's interning for a theatre company, and they've offered to get me in touch with their employers so I can see what opportunities I might have there." So it wasn't a TOTAL lie! Well, yes it was. Totally. But I was desperate! He wasn't exactly enthused about the idea (he did suggest re-considering in the spring, so that's still an option, but anyway...) but I think if I get my ass together and let him know it, then I could wheedle a trip to New York out of it too!

(Er, and maybe I really should at least attempt to talk to some folks in New York and bring back a few business cards so he doesn't think I'm totally full of SH*T.)

Woohoo!!

ETA: Holy bajeesus! Flights from Vancouver to New York have jumped to $688 (and that's with a connection in HOUSTON!!) and from $520 to $900+ for Cathay Pacific! *vomits* Looks like Seattle's my only hope now (luckily the prices hae dropped by $8. Is that a sign?).

It was some auction site that I'd never heard of. I use eBay all the time and Paypal is great, but this site was basically the equivalent of sending him money order. No thanks.

I now have Ipod fever though and the last thing I need to do is drop $350 on one of these given how much $$$ I've been putting into my NY trip.

Good to hear your NY plans are working again, Tiff!

I've been so self-centered! I forgot you're going in November! Have you booked your flights and hotel yet? How many days will you be there for? Are you pre-buying all of your theatre tickets? (I remember you discussing it a few pages back.) I can't believe Spamalot and Spelling Bee are both sold out for all the days I'm in town. I want to be a part of it! New York, Neeew Yoooork! Here's to SRO tix!

Hooray, Tiff!!! I think I've still got the business card I got from the guy at HHC, so I'll just take down all his info...and I'll see if my friend at AMC can snag you something. That'd at least be two! Whatever it takes...And I take it he doesn't know about the U2 tix, so you wouldn't be able to say, "as nice as the spring would be, I'm already kind of...booked for October"??

See what you can do, and hop on Seattle ASAP! Wouldn't want those flights to jump up too. I think that's Columbus Day weekend, so flights might start going up in the States, as it'll be a long weekend and people might be travelling.

Oh, and SRO for Spelling Bee looked pretty good (better than the rush seats I got)...and it's only an hour and a half (w/o intermission) so it's not like we'd be standing forever...I think Spamalot's a bitch to get SRO for (even though I got them just before the Tony's, getting in line 10 minutes before the went on sale). But I'd love to see that again w/ Alan Tudyk in the Hank Azaria roles. I loved him in 28 Days. What a goof!...Oh, and Pat, I read some great things about Ave Q's Vegas production on talkinbroadway. I guess it's the whole show, not a stripped down version, as I'd read earlier. Just something to keep in mind. I'm want to be a part of it! New York, Neeew Yoooork!

Gotta run. I'll talk to you guys later, and Tiff, keep me posted! I'm want to be a part of it! New York, Neeew Yoooork!

Yeah, I booked my Hotel and flight over a month ago. I am a big time planner, so it was pretty much par for the course. I got really good deals actually.

I am flying in on Saturday afternoon and leaving Thursday (Thanksgiving) afternoon. I am flying on my new favorite airline, JetBlue so I'll be able to watch TV the entire way. I'm want to be a part of it! New York, Neeew Yoooork!

I am probably going to end up buying all my tickets. I already have tickets in my possession for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (two sets actually and I have to sell one), The Light in the Piazza, Sweeney Todd. That doesn't include my tickets to Wicked, which I am also probably going to sell.

I plan on seeing Rent and Bee while I am there also, but those are probably both going to be SRO. If I do in up selling the Wicked tix, I'll end up seeing something in it's place, I just can't decide what exactly. Charity, Trailer Park and Hairspray are all ideas...

Mabel, it isn't an abbreviated version? That's good to know. Makes it a lot better option.

I read the bit about Ave Q on the Vegas board on talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat Someone went to the invited dress, and they said it was very good.

Good thing you booked early. I bet prices will get crazy w/ it being right around Thanksgiving, etc.

What else??? Keep your eyes peeled for prices to come down on iPods...I bet they will once the color/photo ones start being the newest must-have item!

G'afternoon, all. Thought I'd rescue this from the bottom of the second page.

Patronus, I'm a planning freak too. In a way, it's almost as much fun to plan as it is to travel, isn't it? Ask Mabel and Ellie, I was busting their chops in January about planning for October! Unfortunately, financial and academic situations changed, and everything was thrown for a loop. I want to be a part of it! New York, Neeew Yoooork! I'm still at least trying to hack out what I'll be doing for that weekend, even though the flight isn't booked. (The anxiety is growing.)

How much are SRO tickets to Rent? You can get some really discounted tickets for reserved seats at probably about the same price. (And you can always rush, if all else fails, right?) Is SRO only available if the show is sold out?

I really like the Spamalot recording, but it seems like people have been giving it mixed reviews, and lately they've been more negative. If it was between Spamalot and Spelling Bee/Ave Q, I'd choose the latter.

And where's Ellie3 been lately? I want to be a part of it! New York, Neeew Yoooork! Dear? Yoohoo! I'm coming to find you in 5 weeks! (Hopefully.)

I think they only sell SRO for shows when they're sold out, and I have my doubts that RENT will be sold out in Nov, unless the movie really bumps up business. I'd think the lotto or discount seats (or TKTS) are probably the more viable options, but you never know. Doesn't the movie open Nov 14th or something? When Chicago opened, the show started getting really busy.

I really liked Spamalot. I'm not much of a Python fan (I like them, but I'm definitely not a fanatic or anything) and I had tons of fun both times I saw it, and I'd be more than happy to see it again (though I still don't think it deserved Best Musical). I'd say Q is by far my favorite of the 3 you mentioned, Tiff.

ETA: What's w/ the "I'M want to be a part of it..."???? I'm??

Rent actually does sell SRO even if the show isn't sold out...or at least they used to. I believe SRO for them is $25.

I am sure I can can get some cheap seats as it gets closer or even call in a favor to try and get some house seats through an acquaintance in the current cast.

Although, I need to reel in my spending a bit as I gave in to my Ipod desire and purchased a U2 Ipod at the Apple Store this evening. That being said, I haven't opened it yet and it's sitting on my desk taunting me. I am going to see how viable my Minidisc player would be for that purchase and may end up returning it. W-W-What do you mean "I'm want to be a part of it...", Mabel? Only yours and Patronus's are off - mine, of course, are correct. Yeesh, lady. Up those meds!

I was going to say that for $25, you might as well pay marginally more and get reserved seats or house seats, but I just looked it up and the discounts aren't as steep as they were last year - last year there were orchestra and front-mezz seats available for $40! So SRO is probably your best bet.

Congratulations on your new iPod! Woohoo! We're having a competition at work, and whoever can get the most people to donate to a local charity wins an iPod - unfortunately, office politicking and general nastiness of greedy co-workers has made this a less-than-enjoyable experience.

I'm game for Q, Mabel! I already own the cast recording - do you think its humor is most effective if you don't know what to expect with the songs, though?
