Hmmm...I suppose if any end up staying that cheap up to when the auction ends it might be worth entertaining the notion. Tuesday night is my film class, and that prof is new and she seems rather strict about us being there every week...which I guess is understandable, because we "missed" a week because we only meet once a week and there were no classes that first Tuesday after moving in, and we've got at least one holiday week, etc. And class is pretty much taken up watching a movie and a brief discussion after, so (pretending we got lucky w/ cheapie below face tix) I'd just have to beat-feet up there once I get out at quarter of nine and hope for good subway karma. If it worked out, you could probably go in and leave my ticket at Will Call so you wouldn't miss anything. Guess we'll see.
ETA: Night, Tiff!
"beat-feet"? Nice term. *approves*
Can'tcha just cab?? It's not that far, and even with the small added cost, it's worth not worrying about bad subway karma! (It would be, what, $6?)
I'm definitely not cab-savvy. I've only used them a couple of times and both times, I end up getting the sense that they can tell that I don't know what the hell I'm doing and take me the most roundabout way. Besides, I would imagine (even getting up on the Henry Hudson) that it would take significantly longer than 15 to get from City Hall to MSG...Geez, it wouldn't surprise me if it would take a good portion of that time just to flag a cab down here at 8:30-9 (things do pretty much shut down after 6 or so down here, so the volume of cabs would also likely decrease). I don't know. We'll play it by ear and see.
From Fulton to MSG, it should be around an 8 minute ride, but hailing the cab might be the tough part. I suppose the only answer is to change your bad subway karma! (Or, you know, first actually acquiring some tickets.)
I'm now applying for new law schools, and it's like an unpleasant visit of deja vu. I hate this. I really do.
Well hello there, Miss Pissy-Pants. I'm sure things will go better for you this time around...well, assuming you'll have some time to devote to your applications w/ all your galivanting around. *grimaces* You are going to have ample time to devote to your applications, right?!!?!?
I'll keep an eye peeled on some of those auctions, and humoring the notion that something will show up at such a steal that we can't refuse, I actually don't think the subway will be that horrible an option. When things are running right (and it seems late nights, after midnight, and weekends are where I'm running into my problems, neither of which would be the case on a Tuesday before 9pm) the 2,3 usually comes pretty regularly through Fulton. Nowhere near the wait I (always) have for the A,C,E (I loathe that line).
It's just one line from Fulton to MSG, right? (I barely remember the lines for the MTA, just that it was convenient and got me everywhere worth going to wicked fast!)
God, I so am Miss Pissy-Pants today. These applications are driving me crazy. It's so not worth it.
(And yeah, I should have ample time to devote to them - the "5-25 recommended hours" for Ontario's universities alone!! I'm hoping to get them done before I leave on the trip, because the deadline is Nov. 1)
Fulton St. has most of the lines going through it (A,C,2,3,4,5,J,M,Z) but I'm a 2,3/4,5 girl. I'll take those even if it's an inconvenience and I have to transfer or walk farther than I would taking another line. I've always had bad luck w/ the A,C (either getting re-routed, or waiting forever for a train to come) and after that Two Gents busniness I think I'm boycotting it for good! I've never really had any problems w/ the 2,3 the past two years...other than that Rector St. nonsense (they've been posting signs about odd changes for the weekends, but hopefully that'll all be sorted out by the time you're here).
Get hopping on the applications...of course it'll be worth it! You'll be kicking yourself if you don't get all your applications in. 5-25 hours each! Yikes! You can do it though!!
DAMMIT!!! Michael Stuhlbarg is doing a FREE reading next month, but it's on a Tuesday. Blast! I love Michael Stuhlbarg. I do not, however, love night classes.
Aaaaaand...my travel agent called to say my scheduled return flight has been rescheduled by Air Canada, and to call her back as soon as possible.
I could die laughing. Really.
They can't do that, can they?!?! I might be able to see the departing flight, since you hadn't been charged for it, but the return flight was all done and set, right?!?!? WTF?!?
Okay, apparently the Delta thing might be delayed because they only have to send out payments or something once a week. She told me to relax because I already have a confirmation number and my ass will be on that plane no matter what, so frankly I hope the payment doesn't go through.
The good news is my flight from NYC to Toronto is still 4:30, so I get to squeeze in a lunch and some quick shopping before I leave.
The bad news is my flight from Toronto to Vancouver was pushed forward so it leaves at the same time my New York flight lands.
The badder news is because of this, I'm stuck at stupid Pearson Intl for FOUR HOURS instead of 1.5.
The good news is I won't really care too much, because at least I'll still have been to New York!
(The bad news is I lost my Louvre print when I was last at Pearson in May, and I'll be hunting down EVERY STAFF MEMBER THERE until I get it back.)
There isnt' another flight from NYC to Toronto that would put you in closer to the connection time from there to Vancouver?
Damn...gotta go to class.
I was hoping there would be (because I would've loved to leave in the late afternoon/early evening), but I think if I request it, I'll have to pay the changing fees, whereas here I don't. Fingers crossed that this flight stays the same or is delayed by two hours!
Have fun at class!
Class actually was fun. It's a Feature Writing class, and tonight we were peer-editing papers and my group was good fun.
You'd think you could bypass the fees since they changed a leg of the flight. Would it be worth looking into it as a possibility?
Ugh, I'm starving, and I really don't have anything. I've got chicken, cauliflower, and that's about it. I've got some chips and salsa, so I guess that's what wins out. Who needs a real dinner?

How do you cook a monkey?
Gorilla
What do you call a monkey with a stick of dynamite up it's rear end?
A baboom.
Har.
My goodness, Ellie! You really outdid yourself w/ those!
Anyone still around?

Nope. Now away with you!
I am...just vegging watching Sports Night. What's up?
Nothing much here...other than that I just peeled the band-aids off my heels from the blisters I was getting the other day, and they were a lot nastier than I thought! I didn't really look at them when I put the band-aids on...Boy, those new shoes did a number on my feet!
Anyway, back to U2 and the New York trip!

Ooh, I love Sports Night.
Felicity should have won an Emmy for that too!
Oh, and Mabs...TMI.
I LOOOOOOVE Sports Night. Felicity is a comic genius! Ahhh, yahting "All you need is $40 million and a dream!"
TMI? It's been far too long a week...Oh, and I forgot, I saw this quote and though of you, Ellie:
"Keane's performance was like watching a herd of tortoises walk across the floor of a chewing gum factory. Slow, boring, uneventful, the seconds seemed like hours."
Thought you'd like that...I'm sure that didn't help in convincing Tiff to join me, but I couldn't resist. It is a rather amusing little image.
Beka's been nice enough to pore through hotels with me to find cheap ones for us to stay in.
Oh, and Mabs, she can split the cost with us so it'll be five ways instead of four, making it more affordable!
Anyone care to help? Anyone?-one?-one? *echo of no one responding*
Where are you looking? Anything quasi-reasonable??
Let me show you some of the places that were rejected. The 'candid photos' from travellers on tripadvisor.com were laughably disgusting.

Sports Night. It was taken too soon. And I think I prefer Peter Krause in SN than in SFU! Aaron Sorkin rocks.
Has Beka managed to come up with a believable story for her parents?
HAHAHAH!!! Love the neon tracking lights in that last pic! I've stayed in some tiny rooms (like the Sohotel...it was the Pioneer when I stayed there) but there was something charming about its trashiness. This place was just plain old trashy!!!
