2U?
Are they any good?
I've done SRO for a couple of shows. Spamalot wasn't bad. There were a couple of things that you miss, but it really wasn't too terrible. And the actual standing isn't so bad...you just grab a spot to sit in the lounge or something at intermission. Let's see what have I stood for??? Long Day's Journey into Night (and that was like 3 hours and 45 min!), Raisin in the Sun (I think that was the most painful...good show, but long and I did get a little achey at that one), Nine (totally missed Jane Krakowski's big entrance, so that was a bummer...got to move to the front row mezz for Act II though), and The Pillowman...I guess that's it. It's definitely doable.
I was just watching a video on the 2U website. They're kinda funny!
The funny thing is Ellie thought she was being quick and snarky with the "2U" crack, except that's...really their name.

Yeah...well...still doesn't explain how you went from U2III to U2V.

Standing's okay with me. I have to stand for the whole 15 hours when I'm PAing, unless I'm peeing or eating lunch, and usually lunch is on the go anyway. So 2.5 hours sounds luxurious, especially for the price! Is it usually at the back of the orchestra or what? (I've never done SRO either.)

Oh.
I thought you were talking about shows that you yourself were going to. So there. You smell.
*lip quiver*
10/7 - Spamalot plus 2U
10/8 - Maybe a matiness plus U2II (a matiness, eh?)
10/9 - Birthday bonanza!
10/10 - U2III
10/11 - Nothing yet, but you've got class, and I'll probably be with Siv in Brooklyn that night anyway. (I do have class pretty much all day...maybe you could try for Spelling Bee w/Siv)
10/12 - SWIWS
10/13 - Maybe Piazza, and/or another night with Siv
10/14 - U2V
This looks like an exhausting week! It'll be tons o' fun though!!
I agree, Tiff...I think GA is kind of overrated unless you get beeped into the elipse/if you're right on the rail. Sure the energy is crazy down there, but it's MSG. I pretty much expect the energy to be crazy everywhere. I was about 10 rows back in Brooklyn, and I don't think I'd really want to end up a whole lot farther back than that. It certainly doesn't help when you're 5' 3" or so!
Yeah, SRO is at the back of the orchestra...and it always makes me happy to think that (despite the fact that they do actually have a seat) the people right in front of me paid $100 and I paid $25!!
I didn't realize just how fun the week was going to be until I wrote out our schedule!
Yeah, I'm about as tall as I am wide (5'2.5), so being at the back of the floor would just plain suck.
Should we try for Ave Q or Charity for 10/9? *deep suffering sigh* What would you like, Ellie?
Hey, wait a minute. Are you about to cry because I made you look stupid...twice?

At least I only look stupid!
*lower lip tremble*
I want to see both SC and Ave Q! But probably Sweet Charity a bit more...although, I really don't mind.

Fiiiiine. Only because it's the only unsuccessful show, Broadway or otherwise, that I'd be willing to watch, and sometimes I need to throw a bone to those starving actors.
(I wanted to see Doubt too, BTW. Any good?)
What did you end up doing for the brunch situation on 10/9? I thought you had it scheduled so a matinee wouldn't fit?? If you were going to try for one on Sunday afternoon, Charity would be MUCH easier. Student rush is 2/ID and $25 (in the orchestra). If you're able to get there early enough, I think the tix are in the front row. I got there shortly before the show, and still got side orchestra in row L or something like that.
Yeah, brunch is at 2pm. *still grumble-y over it* I'm thinking if BWW HH starts at 5:45pm, we can duck out at 7:45 and catch an evening show, and/or go for a late dinner.

Yeah, isn't it all redundant?
Stupid Happy Hour.
I kid!
I also wanna see Spelling Bee. And The Pillowman. Alas, that can never happen.
Doubt was good, but I didn't love it (I think after months of praise, praise, praise, I was expecting way too much). Also, I had truly horrible seats, so I'm afraid that tainted my opinion of it more than a little. They shouldn't even bother selling tix in the balcony at the Kerr. I felt like I was hanging from the roof above the 3rd row of the orchestra. It was bizarre. I'm used to being high up (as 2/3 of the time I'm in the balcony) but it was very strange to be so close too...like looking straight down at Brian F. O'Byrne's bald spot for the whole show! OK, maybe it wasn't that bad, but I think SRO for that show would have been much better than the cheap balcony seats.
I would've preferred Pillowman over Doubt, but since that's not possible, I'll 'settle' for the latter. Is the OBC still in it?
The only evening shows on Sunday start at 7:30, so you/we/whoever would probably have to slip out at quarter past rather than quarter of...just something to keep in mind.
Yeah, the OBC is still in Doubt...I think they've signed until January or something.
Oh, right, duh. I think I just looked that up on Entertainment Link or something yesterday. (All the shows are mooshing together now. I'm over-researched.) Brian O'Byrne is the big selling point for me. I won't light my hair on fire if I miss it though. What about Chicago w/ Brooke?

What if Rath beats us up for trying to escape Happy Hour too soon?
I've started reading Pillowman, Mabel! I'm a good bit into it...my favorite part so far is (I'm paraphrasing!) :
"And am I an abusive alcoholic?
Yes I am!"
That's the exchange me and my reflection have every day!
Crap, right, it's a Sunday. 7:30 would be the latest a show would start. *sits on hands*
I s'pose if we sacrificed a show that day, it wouldn't be too bad, right? We'd lounge from 6-9, then catch a cab or walk for dinner for 9:30? (Late dinners are still fashionable in the big city, riiiight?)
OMG, ELLIE! Goldblum's timing on that line...perhaps the most brilliant comic moment I have ever witnessed in the theatre. Ask Elphie to back me up on this. It was like Comic Timing 101! Genius!!!
"I'm sick of everyone blaming their parents for their SH*Tty upbringing. My father was a violent alcoholic. Am I a violent alcoholic." (long pause...just long enough) "Yes, I am." FABULOUS!!!
I adore Brian. He was mahvalous in Frozen, as well as Doubt. He's in that group of actors that I will follow and see whenever they do a new show. I'm quite bitter that I missed him in McDonagh's other plays. Bitter, bitter, bitter.

I guess it'll be no Broadway shows for me, then.
My friends don't want to see one on the night we get there. They're not too enthusiastic about a Sat matinee either, and we've U2 in the evening.
And haven't you already seen Brooke in Chicago? And been disappointed?
How far away is Luxia from the theatres?

Yeah, it's imagining Jeff's delivery that amuses me!
