What else is in the cards for you and your friends on Saturday afternoon, Ellie? Would it be so horrible to take a 2 1/2 hour break away for a matinee, if there was something else in particular that they really wanted to do? There isn't one of them that would be up for a show? It just seems sad to be here and not be able to sneak one show in.

Frozen interested me more than Doubt, but I always vowed if I had a chance to see him live, I'd jump at it. I've seen some of his guest-starring roles and he's really charismatic. (Or maybe it's the glare of that bald patch that just rivets me.)

Ellie, your friends sound like crapheads.

(Just kidding.)

(Not really.)

Luxia is on 48th between 8th and 9th, so I guess it's about a five minute walk?

I didn't like Brooke in Chicago, but a few people promised she got better as the weeks went on (in direct contradiction to what people on www.whatsonstage.com said). At the very least, I'd just love to be at the stage door to hand her a bottle of Flintstones vitamins, and tell her to just deal.

(And then shake her hand after she's slapped me.)

His big Act II monologue was genius as well. If it had run longer, I would have second acted the show bunches of times, just to watch him do that monologue (and the alcoholic line!). It was just so F*CKing hilarious! I really, never thought a whole lot of Jeff Goldblum one way or the other until The Pillowman. He's definitely won me over though. Highly underrated, IMHO!

I saw Brooke in Wonderful Town, and thought she was fantab! And I accidentally stage-doored, where she was sweetness personified. I even shook her little boy's hand! Adorable little tyke - I wanted to take him home.

And my friends aren't crapheads! They do want to see a show (they're considering maybe DRS on Sunday), but they figure they'll be too tired on the Friday night, and they don't want to waste (!) a Saturday afternoon in the theatre.

Brian F.O'Byrne...is sexy Irishmen the theme of this trip?

(Okay, so maybe not that sexy.)

I do enjoy Brooke, but I think one visit to Chicago was enough. The stage show just didn't do it for me.

You do have a couple of free nights in there, Tiff. There may still be a slot open for Doubt. What is there? Saturday afternoon, Tuesday, (maybe) Thursday. And what did you have left to fill in? Doubt, Spelling Bee and Q? Q's the big toughie. Even though I won the lotto twice, it seems like a real bitch to win lately. I won 2 out of my first 3 tries, and I've lost about 12 times since.

Don't judge, but there was some of sort sexiness exuding from his L&O/Cold Case/CSI/Without A Trace (I can't keep track anymore) appearance that really appealed. And then he'd look down in the scene, I'd be blinded by the sudden reflection of light hitting the camera, beamed into the TV screen, and I'd come back down to earth.

Colin Farrell is stuffed into my check-in luggage, just on stand-by, anyway.

Dinner! Be back in a mo'!

Nah, Ellie...there's definitely something appealing about Brian.

Didn't Brooke have a daughter? Were you thinking of abducting some stranger's child?!?

Figures the one slot they'd be up for a show is when you're already booked. DRS was a lot of fun, and Lithgow is leaving in the winter sometime. If you were thinking of seeing, I'd definitely try to get there before he leaves.

Hmm. Was it a girl? Rowan, I think it's called. It had curly blondish hair...one of those kids where you're not sure of the gender!

Yeah, to be me with my sad, rather expensive, obsession w/ theatre-going. I'm going to be so broke! And the Flea Market is Sunday!!! Eeek! At least I can save myself a few bucks by refusing to do those damn snap tickets for tix to shows. I always end up blowing $20+ there and walk away empty handed. Tis tres sad.

And yeah, Rowan is a girl. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (No more second thoughts!)

Indeed, I do hoard all my Playbills (along w/ pretty much everying else!) I was really organized about it my sophomore year. I had a dresser w/ a little drawer (perfect for Playbills and such), where I kept all my Playbills, and I kept all my ticket stubs together in a little envelope...I've since fallen off the wagon, and started leaving them hanging around. On the desk, on the window sill, on my little bookshelf, in a drawer. At the end of the year, I pack them up and hopefully they make it to the big box of Playbills at home. I think the stack from last year stayed w/ misc. school stuff from last year...probably never to be seen again. I keep all of my signed Playbills zipped up in a bag, and I'm planning on framing a bunch of them some day when I get an apartment...along w/ my signed window cards (VERY sad that they stopped selling Pillowman window cards, because they wanted to avoid having them end up on eBay..would have loved getting one signed and framed).

How do you mean zipped up in a bag? Like, a zip-lock sandwich-bag-style thing?

How many signed Playbills do you have? Apart from Pillowman, what's your most treasured?

*is in an inquistive mood*

And where's Elphie been recently? Hope she's not feeling too left out with all this NY talk!

It's a plastic zip-up bag...I think it was from a set of sheets or something. About the same height as a Playbill and a smidge wider, and big enough to hold a couple dozen.

I'd say my two most prized Playbills are my color Playbill from Long Day's Journey into Night, signed by the entire cast (including the elusive Vanessa Redgrave...I'm on an on-going quest to track her down to sign my window card too) and the director, Robert Falls...the other isn't really mine. I dug around the house, and miraculously found the Playbill from when my mom saw The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel from an out of town run in Boston from the 70s. It starred Al Pacino just after he finished filming The Godfather, before he made it big. I scrounged it up when I was home for a long weekend, brought it back to school with me, and got Al Pacino to sign it the last night of Arturo Ui. I gave it to my mom for Christmas, and she freaked out! I also got one of my Ui Playbills signed by Monsieur Pacino, but he just scribbled on mine (it's really pathetic!)...I'm fine w/ that though. I'd rather have mine look like crap than have had him scrawl on my mom's 30 year old Playbill! That one actually looks like a decent autograph. You can make out the A and P and everything. Mine on the other hand...not so much!

ETA: What about you, Ellie?? And Tiff/Elphie/Pat/Jez or anyone else who cares to chime in???

Well, I do save them all. However, I couldn't tell you of their exact whereabouts. I have a signed Wonderful Town (Brooke), Gypsy (Bernadette),Sight Unseen (Laura Linney) and Boy from Oz (Hugh). Maybe a couple of others too, but my brain is fried at the moment. Hugh's 'signature' is literally just a black line, but I like to sniff the patch on which his wrist rested.

That's so great about Al! Did he seem surprised to see the old Pavlo Hummel Playbill?

Back from dinner!

Ugh. Do I have to get caught up on you boring folk, or can the conversation resume when it was revolving around me? No? Okay.

1. I didn't like the stage show of Chicago either. Maybe the movie gave me unfair expectations, but there was just so much potential for the production to be crisper, and the stage to be utilised better, but I found it underwhelming.

2. Is Lithgow worth seeing? I have the DRS OBCR but I haven't listened to it at length. I'll check into the DRS discounts.

3. Ellie, you GOTTA see a show! You didn't sign up on BroadwayWorld JUST to linger in my shadows - you signed up because you're interested in it, meaning skipping a show while you're in town is just heresy! <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (No more second thoughts!)

4. You thought Brooke had a boy? You're stupid. (To be fair, Rowan is a pretty androgenous name - too girly to be a boy's name, but too butchy to be a girl's name.) I bet Brooke hates you.

5. #1Elphie, you there?? How's your classes? You'll be back home in two months! YAY! (And new love interests or fun stuff?)

6. I am an organised FREAK with my Playbills, although if I saw as many shows as Nic has, I would probably get pretty lazy with it. As it is now, I try to get two copies of the Playbills - one to go into my New York trip scrap book, and one which I save in a nice photo box with the other ones. If I get a signed Playbill (like my cherished Boy From Oz, Wicked and Aida ones), they get wrapped in tissue, then zip-locked. I'll frame them when I have a place of my own. I keep the tickets inside the Playbill for easy reference.

My only real stage-dooring prized possession is the 12 inch Van Helsing doll that Winnie bought me (as a joke, stipulating that I HAD to get it signed), and it's signed on the coat by Hugh in a silver Sharpie. It was the first time he'd seen the doll, and we conversed for a bit. If my house was on fire, that's one of the things I'd grab.

Ohhhh...my...Godddddd...mother has - after two days of an unspoken detente from the NY Trip War - busted into my room to remind me that if I go on my trip, they will never drive me to any PA job ever again. Shouts of, "Oh my GODDDDD, this AGAIN? Get out!!" were ignored.

Don't feel bad about the Hugh sig. I got a Playbill and a window card signed, and I compared them w/ friends that got Playbills and programs signed, and the black line (kind of like and H and a line?) all look exactly the same. It might be a lame-ass signature, but at least they all look the same...unlike Al's! I had to sneak out and join the line of people at the stage door to get his autograph, because as an intern/usher, we "weren't allowed to get autographs"...but yes, he did look very surprised to see the Pavlo Hummel Playbill. He was signing a slew of Ui Playbills and those stupid Pacino sketches from Scarface that you can buy on the street, and he just went quickly down the line, scrawling away, not looking up...but when he got to me, he went "Heeeeyy!" and looked up and gave a little smile. Totally didn't even recognize me, even though I'd been working on the show for 2+ months, but whatever.

I have a Sight Unseen Playbill signed by Laura Linney too. She was a real sweetheart! Oh, and I forgot about my Reckless Playbill signed by MLP! <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (No more second thoughts!)...And then there was my little tear where I ran around getting people's autographs from shows I didn't even see. I snuck into the theatre when Amy's View was letting out, snagged a Playbill and got Judi Dench's autograph. I wish I'd gotten Kevin Spacey's when he was in Iceman Cometh. I really wish I'd seen that! Spacey, Robert Sean Leonard, and Paul Giamatti=Very good times!

It's only 'cos she loves you, Tiff! Aw, I like her. Anyone who shouts and screams at you is AOK in my book.

Of course I want to see at least one show, but Sunday night was my only real option! Maybe if I can think of some semi-believable story I can escape on Saturday afternoon to see a matinee with you guys, but that's pretty unlikely. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (No more second thoughts!) Maybe I could just sneak off without a word!

Brooke does NOT hate me, thank you very much. She commented on my beauty FYI, and said she'd like to 'touch my spot'. So there.

Alas, I never got to converse with Hugh - I just handed my Playbill to some burly guy who handed it to Hugh, who signed it without even looking at it. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (No more second thoughts!) But I did have a pleasant chat with Laura Linney.

Kevin Spacey is an asshole. Fantastic actor, one of my faves and I would've killed to see him in Iceman, but he's a jackass. *eyetick*

Both of my autographs from Hugh looks fabulous. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (No more second thoughts!) I'll see if I can find the photo... (The one of my Playbill is sort of 'eh', though.) Cherished possession, I tell you.

I wish I had stage-doored for MLP in Proof. <font color=red>Big Apple, here I come! (No more second thoughts!) She was wonderful.

*sigh* You saw MLP in Proof?!?!? I'm so jealous! I was a fool and missed her. I saw Anne Heche, who was surprisingly excellent...Oh, and the fact that Kevin Spacey is an asshole, isn't particularly surprising, but I do enjoy him and WISH I'd seen him in Iceman. Damn!

I was an immigration officer when Kevin Spacey was filming Edison with Justin Timberlake here. Justin was really nice. Kevin pulled the "Do you know who I AM???" when he was asked to wait in line for his work visa like everyone else, spent the hour talking loudly on his cell phone about the inefficiency of the Canadian immigration system, and then pulled the pissy-face when he was questioned.

Yep, I was privileged enough to see MLP in Proof - in fact, that was the night when I decided to talk her as my lov-ah, and became totally infatuated with her and the show. Her and Shenkman...wow. I didn't realize how lucky I was to see them.
