Tiff, did you end up deciding to see Gwen Stefani?
She's performing at MSG on 12/15 and I'm seriously tempted to go, but I'm being good and restraining myself. The cheapest tix are $40, but I'm hoping on spending that money on the 11/22 U2 show.
Your tickets are already above $150! And you can't complain if you get anything over face value.
That movie worries me a little; has that actually been confirmed?
...the latest bid was a pity bump from someone on the boards.
The movie worries you in a sense that you WANT it made or DON'T?
Aw, that's mean, Tiff.
The movie worries me in the sense that I'm not sure I want it made.
I think this is bad karma in the making. But...I'm greedy and I've went through enough bad karma just planning this trip. (So it's not so much greed as a necessity.)
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about the movie either. At least with M$H, it looked good on paper. Here, it doesn't even look like that.

I don't really follow NZ politics, but surely anybody with even the most basic of world knowledge would know who Helen Clark is!
Don't know how I feel about that movie thingy, m'self. I don't like the idea of mixing my idols. Bono should stay over there, and le Beatles over there. Know what I mean? No?
And Elph, you should so totally go see Gwen!
I still wanna see Gwen. Lick her heels. I would.
I wonder if it's true that her heels taste like chicken?
Ooooh, my mom just called me to tell me that she saw this, thought of me, and popped a tape in:
Below are some excerpts from the press release on the Fuse website:
Fuse, the nation’s only viewer-driven, all-music network today announced that it will premiere an exclusive sit down with U2 on Fuse’s 100%, a series dedicated to showcasing intimate and candid interviews with artists and bands, while playing some of their quintessential videos. Tune in on Tuesday, September 27 at 9PM ET to check out what the Rock-And-Roll Hall of Famers had to say when they sat down with Fuse to tape 100%:U2 during their world wide tour “Vertigo.”
And...
In Fuse’s 100%:U2, viewers will have the opportunity to watch how U2 perceives the bands that open for them and young musicians in general. Plus, what it takes to be a rock legend or merely a one hit wonder. Viewers will also discover who is the grumpiest in the band, how Larry Mullen keeps his figure, why Bono avoids the grocery store, and most importantly - their thoughts about the fans.

Sounds pretty interesting! Tomorrow on PBS (at least here) they're airing that "Get Up, Stand Up" documentary on the history of protest music. Figures that tomorrow that's going to be on, Lost is on, and the Red Sox are on ESPN. What to watch!!?!?
Oh, and I just had some of my very yummy chocolate peanut butter Hagen Dazs ice cream, only to want to chuck it all back up after reading that it was 360 calories and TWENTY-FOUR grams of fat per serving!!! Good lord! I usually get low fat or frozen yogurt, so it's been ages since I've had real ice cream, and that was more than a bit of a shock. That kind of takes the fun out of eating it!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MOI!!! I just got a pair of tix to Paul McCartney for 10/1!!! They were the damn $89 tix, which is more than I wanted to spend...well, my mom's probably going to pick up the tab, for my birthday, but it's more than I wanted her to spend (though I'll probably end up paying for my own ticket, because I feel guilty that her even coming down for the weekend will cost an arm and a leg), but whatever...we're GOING!!! YAY!!! I'm so excited that my mom will finally get to see Paul in concert! Woohoo!
YAY! That's great, mabel! Are they fairly good seats? That'll be a lot of fun; it sounds like a great birthday present.
And Tiff, was that your friend who had the winning bid on your tickets? Does that mean you didn't want to sell them to the person who bid $190?
Let's not talk about it.
...karmic retribution...
(But in my defense, I sold those Vancouver tickets with no gouging whatsoever and got hundreds, and people who sold tickets with worse seats than mine got over $400 last week!)
Sorry.
(No gouging whatsoever for the Vancouver ones? Didn't you get someone to bump those up for you as well?)
So are you gonna put them up for sale again? You should try to get rid of them asap because Ticketmaster may release some pretty soon (for Boston I think they released a bunch about a week in advance).
I'm keeping an eye on a few 11/22 tickets that are low so far, but I know they'll shoot up towards the end.
Nope, no gouging for 'em. I had Ellie on stand-by, but luckily I didn't have to worry about it.
So the bad luck continues...Delta charged my credit card today.
(Okay, so it's not entirely bad luck, since they charged me the price I expected to pay, but for a few blissful weeks I thought my one-way to New York was going to be free!)
Oh, I altered my Craigslist ad to either sell, or trade the tickets for similar seats on 10/7 or 10/11. I would rather see 10/7 than 10/11, because I think the opening show would have a better setlist (and energy - from the audience AND the band) than the one second-to-the-end.
I'm still pissed off about that auction.
Are you happy now, Ellie, Mab, and #1Elphie? Goddamn moral crusaders.
You can actually toss me on that moral crusaders lists to Tiff.
Karma. You can't fight it.
Eeeeee!!!!
I just got back from ItAS interview #1, the Backstage Internship (though I swear he said House Management on the phone...but whatever, mystery solved there!) He said he'd love to hire me on the spot, just looking at my resume, and that he was going to have a hell of a time picking, because he had only 1-2 positions available and 4 very qualified people. Then he mentioned something about the producers being here this afternoon, and I said, "Yes, I have an interview for the Office Internship at 2" (w/ the producer and someone from HBO), so he said "Great! You know what?"...*grabbed my cover letter and wrote something on it, giving it to me* It says "Hey (person's name)-HIRE (MABEL)! -(signed)" Caps, exclamation point and everything!!! Wheee!!! I really think it's for the best. Even though the Backstage Internship would have been more titilating, I really need an internship that would be doing a better job of putting my foot in the door for a possible job after I graduate, and I don't think coffee wench will help me out too much in the long run. If I wasn't a senior, I'd be all over that position like stink on SH*T, but I think the office one will be better for me at this stage of the game. *fingers crossed*
Awesome, mabs!!! Congrats!
Once you get your awesome job, remember that you'll need an assistant to relocate from Los Angeles to the NY area to help you.
I'm not morally inept and sans conscience, you know.
[slinks away to kick a puppy]
I know...you're just desperate to make a buck or two!
Back from the Office Internship interview...I certainly didn't walk away feeling like, "wow, I nailed that." Though, a lot of that stems from the fact that the interview was done in the theatre, w/ the producer/director/office manager, and they were in the middle of putting the new set up (very strange, btw...I don't think I like it), so their attention was definitely directed elsewhere. Though, they did ask me to e-mail them w/ specific times I could commit to, so maybe it's all good. It sounds like it'd be a lot of dry office work, but there would also be a lot of flexibility in exploring different aspects of the show, since it's such a small, tight-knit group of people that put it together. We'll see, I guess.
That sounds good. Did they say anything about what the Backstage guy wrote on your resume? E-mail them ASAP! (When does filming start?)
And yes, it was to make a buck or two, but it's due to broke-ness and not purely fuelled by greed.
[slinks off again to steal from Salvation Army jar while wearing new puppy-fur coat]
I e-mailed her as soon as I got in...you'd think asking for specific times that I could commit to would be a good thing, but it didn't feel as set in stone as the Backstage guy seemed. When I came in, they said "(Mabel), yeah, (so and so) mentioned you," (always a good thing, I suppose) and I gave them the cover letter he wrote on, and they kind of laughed. We'll see. I think they were definitely distracted w/ the set construction (looked like they were going to drop a wall for a minute there)!
Does the new set look any good? What an end of an era - the original Lipton set is almost iconic!
Do you have the Backstage guy's contact information as well? Maybe reiterate to him that you're still interested in either position?
Still stung by all the morally-corrupt insinuations.
And the bad luck continues.
I called '88 Minutes' and 'Little Man' (the Al Pacino and Wayons Bros. movies, respectively) to follow up on my resumes, and both Prod Coordinators said that their execs and stars all "import" their assistants and they'd "keep [me] on file". "Import"? Like you would for Italian leather and Mexican spices? Geez. Is it really THAT easy for someone to get a temporary Canadian work visa in the entertainment industry? I doubt the US government would be so forthcoming!
You know...I'm not a superstitious person, but after a certain point...
Sounds pretty frigged...but then again, isn't that to be expected in the film industry (not making excuses, just not particularly surprised about shady goings-on).
Oh, and btw...I'm an idiot. How did I make it through 3 years of school, in this "fine" institution's Honors College, with a very respectable GPA, on the Dean's List, etc. and be SO STUPID about buying tix?!?!?
This FOOL
<------
Just bought tix for the ALDS Yankees Home Game 3 (which technically, might not even happen, depending on a variety of things), selecting for the tix to be shipped via standard mail. Durrr!!! Standard mail that sends them to by billing address in NH!!! The game's either going to be Friday 10/7 or Sunday 10/9...I was really just planning on selling them, so I didn't want to get ticketfast. Well, you can't sell the tickets if you can't have them in hand on the day of the game! F*CK me! What was I thinking?!?! I seriously just blew $50!
You were going to sell your tickets????????????????????????
