Just got a call from the House Manager and I'm set for tonight. I have NO IDEA whether or not I'll be able to watch or not, but I'm sure I've got a better shot now than I would have otherwise. She said that the taping will likely go quite late, and that she'd probably be able to let people leave early once the taping starts, so I'd imagine that that would mean that we'd essentially not be needed during the actual taping, and I may be able to finangle something to slip in somewhere. If not, I'll watch through the cracks in the door. I really don't care. I did it 30+ times for Ui, and I'll do it again, dammit! I watched that show every friggin night I ushered from between the cracks in the doors. That's dedication, my friends! Seriously though, how could you have Pacino, Palminteri, Buscemi, Crudup, Giamatti, Randall, Durning, etc, etc, etc on stage every night and NOT watch?!?!

I'm kind of bummed that the Backstage thing didn't work out, since Pachy and I are *like-this*, but I'd kind of think he's pretty much got his own people. Maybe the intern they hired will buckle under the pressure (I mean come on!) and I'll be in by default. I've already dealt w/ his creepy stare-down, and his need for "very, very expensive shampoo," so. WTF?!? I SO should have had that job!!! Grrr. Whatever, I wouldn't want to deal w/ Pachy anyway. He's way too high maintenance.

Oh, and I guess U2 are on Conan this Thursday? Apparently they're running a commercial for it...though someone on PLEBA said that someone else is already scheduled for Thursday's musical guest??? I don't know. I wish it was next Thursday when I don't have class, and we could try for standby or something.

Sorry about Jon Stewart too. I would have loved to have given it a go. No more baseball talk, for chrissakes!

First off...BASEBALL RULES! GO ANGELS. GO BRAVES.

Now that I have that out of my system...

I am quite bummed that Tower Records in West Hollywood is hosting Fiona Apple for a performance/signing of the new album which I am extremely excited about this Thursday.

The performance is at 7, but it's one of those limited attendance, first come first serve things and people will likely line up all day. I really wish I could catch it.

OMG, Pat!!! Your avatar is F*CKING AWESOME!...and I don't even care for the Braves one way or the other, well, other than the fact that you and Elph are fans.

Could you swing by the Finona Apple thing anyway? You'll kick yourself if you don't later. If it's nearby-ish, you should at least give it a go.

Oh, and...GO SOX!!! No more baseball talk, for chrissakes!

Thanks mabel!

I have considered changing my avatar a few times and it just doesn't feel right - so I am going to start "dressing Norbert up" to fit the season. No more baseball talk, for chrissakes!

(I thought this thread was locked, and I must say I'm a little scared of it)

GO Braves! Which Elphie is also a Braves fan?
I love U2 as well, and Fionna Apple.

Anyway, nice work dressing up Norbert, that has long been my MO with Fuzzels, it provides a nice idenity. No more baseball talk, for chrissakes!

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

YAY sp78! Welcome to the scary world that is the U2 thread.

Yeah, it was locked for a while due to a little, um, situation but it's been unlocked and I believe the entire team is back from their hiatus.

#1Elphie is a Braves fan as well.

Yeah...I saw that last night, Up. I'm kind of bummed it's this Thursday rather than next (I mean, they'll still be in NYC, sans concert next Thursday) because I've got class all day. I think I would have tried for a standby spot. Conan and U2. Can't go wrong w/ that! No more baseball talk, for chrissakes!

I'll see if I can tape it. I've got a couple of tapes here that have stuff on them, but there might be some spare space at the end.

I think only 1:15-1:35 needs to be taped, right? Unless Bono decides to pop up impromptu at the beginning monologue.

Yeah, I'm figuring it'll just be the song at the end...though I may want to tape the opening monologue in case Conan's got some choice comments.

Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!!! Why couldn't this be NEXT Thursday?!?!?

NEW YORK (AP) - In his 12 years in charge of booking musical guests on Conan O'Brien's "Late Night," Jim Pitt always listed U2 and Johnny Cash as the dream artists he'd tried but never succeeded in getting.

He lost his chance with the late Cash, but the U2 dream is coming true Thursday in a major way.

O'Brien will turn over his entire show to the band, which is in New York for seven sold-out engagements at Madison Square Garden.

"We were able to offer them something to feel enough like an event for them to do the show," Pitt said. "It's basically 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien,' the U2 edition."

The NBC show has never before devoted itself entirely to a musical guest, although it gave major time a few years back to a holiday appearance by bandleader Max Weinberg's other employer, Bruce Springsteen.

O'Brien's a big U2 fan, and made a personal connection by talking at length with Bono during breaks in rehearsals for the band's "Saturday Night Live" appearance last season, Pitt said.

It may be a nervous time for Bono, who is nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in trying to ease Third World poverty. People who watch the Nobel closely list the lead singer as one of the favorites. The winner is expected to be named Friday.

The band is expected to perform three songs and be interviewed by O'Brien.

Pitt is not pushing for any material in particular.

"When U2 decides they want to come on the show for an hour, you don't get too picky about what they play," he said.

Oh my GODDDDD!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!! You get Pachy, Tim Curry, Bono x2 AND me all in one week? Can your life get ANY BETTER?

This pains me. Really, it does. My VCR isn't set up right now (ever since I destroyed my room last week) - please, please, PLEASE tape this show for me Nic! I really may die if I don't see it!!

I've got to check out my tapes for Conan. My mom brought 2 tapes w/ her of various things I'd asked her to tape...the PBS thing, that Fuse U2 special...and an episode of Breakfast w/ the Arts. Hopefully there's 50 minutes or so of space left on the U2 themed tape.

I was looking on interference, and someone mentioned how genius it would be if they had the Edge (or Adam) do "In the Year 2000," and I was laughing my ass off just thinking about it!!! Can you imagine?!?! Somehow I think Adam would be funnier.

I seriously don't think this week could come at a worse time. I've been doing a decent job of slowly chipping away at my work, but it's not nearly as much as I would like (but also not as little as I was afraid of). But it's like a vicious cycle. I've only got one 2 hour class this morning, but I've got the Bono lecture at 6. I was thinking of going up there early-ish to see if I could scout him out for an autograph, but I have no idea when he'd get there or where I'd go...and I just don't know if I have ANY time to waste like that.

I cannot believe that I was at the theatre from 5 until well after midnight last night. Most of it was pretty much a waste, re: the ushering time. It was so seriously frigged up! They had about 10 different passes, all different colors. Season passes that people bought, season passes that people had because they worked somewhere special, passes just for yesterday for the orchestra, passes just for yesterday for the mezz, Pace theatre student passes, Pace English/FilmStudent passes, MFA New School Student Passes, Rush passes that people got somewhere...and they had each pass (or 2 different passes) lining up at different places. In theory it kind of made sense, so that they could get people in in segments, but really, there weren't enough people there for the balcony, and EVERYONE just ended up going in a free for all into the orcheatra. I was outside w/ the season pass people that had paid for their passes (so when it was going on 1 1/2 wait for them, they started getting mighty pissy), and just before letting people in, they asked me to go downstairs to the lobby, where all the Will Call people and the people who had these bright yellow passes (I don't know what kind of passes they were, but they were admitted directly to the lobby and didn't have to wait in line anywhere) some of whom were supposed to be seated on the sides and some in the center...EVERYONE just ran in and sat in the center. WTF?!?! So by the time those poor season pass people got down there, all that was left were scattered singles in the center and the sides. I felt really bad for them. If you're just going to let people in, totally GA, why maket them jump through hoops just to get into the theatre, especially when many of them have paid to be there!?!

Gotta go to class...more on Pachy later!

*caressing pink iPod mini* It's...so...lovely.

Anyway,

1. Okay, cool, see if you can tape Conan. I'll see if I can hook up my VCR tonight, just in case.

2. I haven't started packing. Oh my god. I'm usually so on top of this stuff, but my room is so tiny that when I open my check-in luggage flap, I literally can't walk around it, and I'm trapped in a little corner of my bedroom.

3. 10 different passes??? I'd be like, "Screw it, go sit where ever you want. And if anyone asks who instructed you to do that, my name is Joy." No more baseball talk, for chrissakes! 7+ hours...oh my God.

4. SO HOW THE HELL WAS PACHY???

5. Sweetie, get your work done! I'll help when I get there! (If I know anything about your classes, which I may not.) We gosta party on Sunday!

Mabs, you and Pacino must be developing quite a bond by now!

ooh, Tiff, you have a pink iPod mini? Is that new?

I'm having my mom tape Conan, so if you guys manage to miss it, I can record dvds for you in November if you still want to see it then!

Tiff, when do you arrive in NY? Did you sell your extra tickets? Which concerts are you all going to again?

Glad you had a fab time at Paul McCartney, Mabs! However, I'm also selfishly pleased it wasn't as good as the last tour - what can I say, I'm evil. Hope your Mom enjoyed him too!

That's Paul McCartney, Tiff. P-A-U-L M-C C-A-R-T-N-E-Y.

Whee for U2 being on Conan! Sounds like a fab show.

On the eve of The Big Trip, I feel the time is appropriate for another U2 questionnaire - just like the olden days. No more baseball talk, for chrissakes!

(i) Who would you most like to see U2 collaborate with?

(ii) You're Paul McGuinness. Times are hard. You find you have no option but to fire one of the boys to cut costs. Who goes?

(iii) What's your favorite U2 album opener?

(iv) Samuel L. Jackson. Over-rated?

(i) Celine Dion, naturally. Seriously, wouldn't it be twistedly divine?

(ii) Byebye, Adam! He lacks a certain something the others have in abundance, 'mafraid.

(iii) Perhaps Beautiful Day, or maybe Where The Streets Have No Name.

(iv) Definitely over-rated. Do a rom-com, man!

I have to go with my 2nd favorite band, Counting Crows. That would be interesting!

(ii) You're Paul McGuinness. Times are hard. You find you have no option but to fire one of the boys to cut costs. Who goes?
I've gotta go with Adam as well, same reason as Ellie. No more baseball talk, for chrissakes!

(iii) What's your favorite U2 album opener?
Tough one. I'll go with Sunday Bloody Sunday.

(iv) Samuel L. Jackson. Over-rated?
