Ooh, I'd love to hear Gwen w/ U2.

I'm glad you gals are having fun! Have you met Ellie yet?

And Tiff, thanks for the B.O. info. I actually meant Friday as in next Friday, the day of the last MSG concert. You're going to that one, right? I figured that would be the best judge of how the B.O. at the last November show will be.

Oh, got it #1Elph! We'll check it out on Friday then.

So today, Nic and I busted our asses over to MSG (me from midtown, her from Greenwich) and I got there 30 minutes before her, saw Adam and Bono drive in, and Nic missed Bono by literally a minute. (It wasn't Nic's fault, though - and even if it was, I accept I should have to put up with a certain amount of crap if I expect to have a place to sleep tonight.)

She's nattering on to her mom right now and we're just resting before the show, contemplating whether we should catch K***e or not.

You really had to hear 2U. I've never thought much of Bono's falsetto, but I've come to appreciate it after Not-Bono last night. At one point, Nic and I were about to literally spray our food all over the table. Those glory notes, like "...fake it!", "FE-EEL!" and pretty much all the good parts in Bad were, well, bad.

Ciao!

/SPOILERS: Though I will be talking about stuff that was the same on the 1st leg (One, etc). I say One, because Mary J. Blige was guest on One!!! It was pretty exciting...though they really did sound terrible when they sang together. They should have just kept trading off verse for you, verse for me. During Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bono bitched out some chick for being on the phone! Tiff and I decided that if I had been us, we would have cried! I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was something along the lines of "What are you doing? TURN YOUR F*CKING PHONE OOOOFFF!!!" Eeek! He appologized to her before One though (but that's probably just because he was going to ask everyone to take their phones out and he'd look like a jackass if he didn't say something). Hmmm...guess I'll post more later, as it's after 2, and Tiff and I want to get up in the am and go up to Strawberry Fields...though I will say we had some ridiculous drunks in front of us...and the 200-level seats for Monday look like they're going to be AMAZING!!

You know I do, Pat! Two down, one to go...

I'm just back from MSGIII. It was quite excellent. 2 new songs for me, 6 different songs from yesterday, I TOTALLY came off as an uber-bitch to the guy in front of me (I'll explain later) Bono forgot the words to Pride, because his teleprompter (yes, he's got a teleprompter!) zapped out...all in all, it was a pretty interesting evening!!

#4057Two down, one to go...
Posted: 10/11/05 at 9:51am

An attempt to madly type out a review before class...I've got some song spoilers, but I'm going to limit them to songs that have only been played at every show, Elphie, so don't worry! Two down, one to go...

Let's see...1st, the whole Pride problem. I read some reviews when I got home last night, and everyone seems to think that Bono got a frog in his throat and that's what stopped him dead in his tracks in the middle of Pride. I don't know. I think I was leaning over to Tiff to bitch about the guy in front of us when it happened, but we both immediately thought his teleprompter zapped out. Either way, it was pretty ridiculous. The audience really tried to pick him back up, but I think he was a bit frazzled by it. He kept the "oh-oohh-oh-ohs" going for a long ass time after...I guess to try and get us back into it. A lot of people were saying that his voice was shot, and while I don't think it was as strong as Saturday, I don't think it was totally gone. I think tonight should be interesting though, if there really were some vocal problems!

Ok, now to the guy in front of us. Tiff and I were going a smidge overboard on pix, since this was pretty much as close as we were going to be getting, and this guy in front of us kept fidgiting. He wasn't even so much dancing...more twitching. He was incredibly annoying. He had ZERO rhythm, and he just would not stay put in one place (because I think there was an empty seat next to him, which have him extra room to roam). So, after screwing up a rather good picture, I quickly flipped him off. *light bulb* let's flip him off and take a picture of my hand flipping him off, w/ his head in the way, so I can immortalize this guy's head with my pissiness about him being continually in the way. So of course, as soon as I do it, his girlfriend turns around. Two down, one to go... You can actually see her looking out of the corner of her eye in my picture. So, of course she tells him. *headdesk* and he proceeds to not more 1 inch during the entirety of Streets. Good lord!! I do one reasonably mean thing, and it comes back to bite me in the ass!!! I felt really bad, and Tiff and I debated whether or not I should appologize and lie saying that I was flipping Bono off for his botching the lyrics to Pride (which happened just before that). I was seriously contemplating doing it during the break before the encore, but by the time one started, he was doing some funky chicken bopping w/ his head and roaming around again, so we said "naahhh!"

Gotta go to class...I'll fill you in on more later.

Sounds...interesting! I'm glad there were some new songs in there. Sorry about the situation with the guy in front of you, I can imagine he was being pretty annoying. The Pride mess-up sounds strange. Did you notice a difference in his voice before that? How could he forget the words to Pride!? They play that at every concert!

There appears to be some discrepency as to whether or not he forgot the lyrics or was having some vocal trouble on Pride. Dunno?! Though, I think he probably goes on auto-pilot, to a certain extent, for the songs that they do every single night. Whatever happened, it was rather strange.

There's some guy on craigslist that says he's got GAs for tonight, $50 for 2. I'm tempted to call, but that's beyond too good to be true, right? I can't just piss away $25, and I've got class until quarter of 9, so I'd be getting there just before U2 went on, so GA would royally suck. Two down, one to go...

Hooray, Elphie!!! That must be a relief. I hope you have time to go camping and exploring now. It'd be a shame to be over there and not have time to do a proper exploration of the island!

I just got back from my night class a half hour ago...I walked into my dorm to find the windows in the living room open. WTF?!? It's 55 degrees out, and my roommate isn't here. Who leaves at night, in October (and yes, it has been unseasonably warm lately, but yesterday and today have been rather chilly) and just leaves the windows open?!? It's only going to get colder as the night progresses. What if I'd gone to a show or something tonight? Would they still be open at midnight when it'd probably be 40 out?? I swear, these people have some weird ass habits!

Hmmm...what else about the concert(s). Oh, now people are thinking Bono was drunk or high last night, and that may be a bit of an explanation for his weirdness during Pride (and apparently he was a little overly-spazzy in other songs as well...can't say that I noticed either way though). Friday should be interesting. I'm hoping for Party Girl, since that seems to be one that they dust off for special occasions. Party Girl and champagne would be fun!!

Yeah, that guy was rather annoying, Elphie. Though I did feel really bad for single-handedly (or a single-finger, if you will) ruining the guy's night. He went from manic, rhythmless bouncing and wandering, to standing there like he was in line at the DMV. He might as well have sat down (and it was during Streets!) Ugh! I've been digging around in my desk and I don't see my USB cable that goes to my digital camera, so it looks like I may have to drop the memory stick off and get it developed somewhere else...in which case, I'll probably just wait until I go home, because I'd feel much more secure about doing it there than in the city. I don't think we got anything great, but there are a couple of decent shots...well, they look ok on the little screen. I'm sure by the time they're blown up to a regular print, they'll really all be blurry. But they'll be fun to have anyway (and I'll just mooch the good pix off someone on interference or something). I don't think I'll bother bringing my camera on Friday though. It's so easy to get caught up in taking pictures and losing track of watching the show. I made a point to put it down for one special moment in the show (dammit, Elphie! I can't wait until November comes so we can actually talk about this! Two down, one to go... ). It was very Almost Famous w/ Penny taking William's pen and paper away backstage. Gotta just enjoy the moment!

I have a lot of catch up reading to do, but I just had a thought and I was hoping that someone could help. You guys have a MUCH better knowledge of the set lists than I do.

Main question: Has U2 performed Dancing Barefoot at all on the tour?

I just thought about the fact that in November it's U2. It's Patti Smith. I wonder if the two forces together increases the possibilities for a Dancing Barefoot appearance?

I don't think they've ever performed it live, Pat. I just looked up a list of songs they've performed live, and the only "dancing" songs were "Dancing in the Moonlight" and "Dancing Queen" Spoilers below...

Though last night Patti Smith was in the audience, and Bad was dedicated to her, and Bono sang a bit of her song 'People Have the Power' at the end.

ETA: More (not so promising) info on Dancing Barefoot.

JFTR, Nicole's total indiscretion towards that guy was so justified and seriously one of the funniest bad karmic moments I've seen on this trip. Two down, one to go...Two down, one to go...Two down, one to go... As she said, no one's nicer than Nic and she's never done anything mean before, and the ONE TIME she does, she gets caught.

But aside from being on the verge of tears and feeling horribly guilty at first, it was totally hysterical from my point of view. (Maybe not hers.)

The guy looked like an epileptic ostrich - once he saw that we were struggling to take pictures after his song-length bopping hiatus, he started to ostrich-size with even more ferocity and then suddenly I told her we shouldn't feel too guilty.

You should've seen it. F*CKing Asshole.

Well, I certainly don't think I'd say "no one's nicer than Nic," but I do think that my truly mean spirited acts are pretty few and far between. *sigh*

Tomorrow's the big one...MSGV! The weather's been pretty SH*Tty all week, and I think it's done a number on me. I don't think I've ever felt so unmotivated and lazy before. I just want to crawl into bed and sleep all day...alas, that can't happen. Two down, one to go...

ITAS has curiously not contacted me, despite my follow ups, so now I am once again left empty-handed. WTF?!!? Tiff pointed out a re-posting of the Conan internship, so I think I'll put in for that again. Pity I couldn't have had it when the boys were on!

Anyway, off to try to be productive.

U2 comes to town and you guys forget us. :-P

They reaired the Conan U2 episode last night and it worked out well because I had just set up a Season Pass on my TiVo.

I haven't watched the entire thing yet, but it does look to be exciting. I actually laughed out loud (at 5:30 am mind you) at the schtick when Conan was talking to the people waiting in line.

Good stuff.

*** Probably spoiler-ladened***

So we just got back from MSGV - I'd say it was one of the better set lists we've had, but seeing 3 shows in a week makes everything meld together because you realize which constant songs can eventually get on your nerves (i.e. Miracle Drug/STYCMIOYO, the Miracle Drug spiel, the Miss Sarajevo spiel, Johnny Come Marching Home, etc.) and you can't keep everything straight. I don't have the setlist in front of me, but the new songs (or, at least, uncommon songs) included Gloria (which had Nic literally screaming her head off and jumping up and down), Fast Cars (with a gal who did a belly dance with Bono, who then let her cling to him and cry for 'With Or Without You'), Party Girl, Electric Co. and acoustic Stuck (!!).

Crumbs wasn't there, to Nic's disappointment, but really, she got Gloria and Party Girl, so she's a happy gal.

Crowd was pretty good today. Bono was seriously high - I'm sure of it. For his pre-Miracle Drug spiel, he went on a rambly tangent that had something vaguely to do with Edge being a space man and Larry meeting him and being all, "Where are you from?" "The future." "What's the future like, Edge?" "It's better." More of the same for 10 minutes. Nic and I looked multiple times seriously wondering wtf was going on and questioning whether we were watching the beginning of the end for Bono's credibility.

'Fast Cars' was still good, and that lucky bitch totally kept her cool and was ass-wiggling and twisting around Bono while he lay down and enjoyed the view.

Still loving the 'Stuck' acoustic.

Nic and I cracked and bought the size 12 youth tees - the front is sort of ugly but the back has the NY skyline and is specially for the MSG shows, so we decided to spend the $20 (vs. $35 for the adult size of the same design) and squeeze into them for the concert. Naturally, Nic's is looser around the waist than mine. (Bitch.)

We also checked out the Anton exhibit at the gallery today - too bad we went so out of our way for it - it was literally twelve photos, and most of them have been published before. (Don't let that stop you from buying them at the gallery for the low price of $5500-$22k!) They had the shot of Elevation, Joshua Tree cover, naked Adam on Actung Baby...

...speaking of naked Achtung Adam, some woman in the front row of GA had it blown up and pasted on a poster next to some handwriting we couldn't make out, and she was standing right in front of Adam, who then turned more towards the right so the photo was out of eye-view. Heh.

Anyway, I'm sort of incoherent now and I fly back tomorrow! Done and done and done! Really, keep an eye out for a transcript of Bono's ramble tonight. It was almost as awkward as Farrah's appearance on Letterman.

Hey Ellie!! Sorry I didn't reply to your PM...as you can imagine, things have been kind of mad this week! I think the concerts and shows F*CKed me up on par w/ the baseball playoffs last fall!

While Tiff and I had fun, of course we missed you! Done and done and done! Of course we had a great time, but if you need some cheering up, be sure to pop over to interference. They're having a grand time bitching about the 5 night stand in NYC.

Maybe you can snag something for Hartford in December?? From what I hear, stuff popped up (if you were persistent enough, and if you're not particularly picky about the $$) on TM for most, if not all of the shows at MSG this week. Some even made mention of GAs popping up in the afternoon. I didn't really look, because we were already pretty much covered, but I'll probably be looking for some GA for November, just for kicks (especially after seeing that you could get w/in 5 rows of the run on Edge/Adam's sides as late as 10 to 9!!! I don't think I'd want to be much farther back than that, but showing up at 8:30 and still getting w/in a couple rows (even if it is on the side) of the run is pretty tempting. Keep your eyes peeled dear! If you can make that (or even Boston in Dec) I'm sure somehting's bound to turn up. Even though it's not the same, it'd still probably be worth trying.

Just got up from a nap, and need to try getting some reading done before I go see In My Life, aka: The Tourettes Musical, tonight...I sent Tiff off this afternoon, in the first bit of sunshine that has shown since she got here. VERY bitter about not getting a single autograph, despite a couple of attempts. Maybe we'll have freakishly good weather in November?!? My album just looks so naked, and it was a shame to send Tiff back w/ a bare War album! Done and done and done!

Don't run away from the thread, Ellie. I'm sure the U2 discussion will taper off for a while until Pat and Elphie are here at the end of November, and we'll be reverting back to the good ol' Elphie#2 days/antics!

Edited, because there was a paragraph in there that made zero sense! I told you this week F*CKed me up!!!

Thanks Mabs, I'll definitely be keeping those options in mind!
I will see them at Hartford. That's my new mission. If I can get a tasty ticket for November MSG, I may even snap that up just to keep my options wide open - and then we can do the aforementioned Manhattan cavorting! And without Tiff - another bonus!

And if I can't get a ticket, there's always the mugging option we discussed a while back.

Maybe In My Life will become a cult hit, Pat, and have a longer-than-expected run. Have you a slot available in your jam-packed schedule?
