Oh no! I guess you'll just have to watch it later. It was rather amusing. Someone on interference posted the link to the Gloria video too...also quite funny.
That last page took about 20 minutes to load because of all those pictures. But they were pretty funny (even though I don't know who any of those people are; I only know Nic and she was covered up in every single one!).
Ladies and Gents, I JUST FINISHED MY LAST FINAL EXAM OF THE SEMESTER! Which is actually quite a scary feeling; I can't believe it went by so quickly. But this means that now I can focus on seeing U2 in 2 weeks!
YAY!!! Congrats, Claire!!! Now for your week of kicking back, stress-free in NZ! How fun!
I can't believe Tiff used a slab of cheese to block out my face. She used a pic of Paul Reubens as Pee Wee Herman in a pic on the Bitches thread! Tsk, tsk!
I'm getting mildly antsy about the U2 shows. I'm thinking that the chances of my snagging a ticket are pretty much slim to none (and I'm not even talking about the lost cause that is GA). I was reading a thread on interference about the ticket line on 10/14 at the box office, and it sounds like it was a mess! I guess there were a bunch of really pushy scalpers. The security guys were really unprofessional, and someone even saw a scalper paying off a guard to get to the front of the line. Ugh! I really don't want to deal w/ that. If I'm willing to wait in line from 11am, then let me. They made it sound like they wouldn't let them line up until 6, so they had to mill around until it was time, and then it was mayhem.
Oh, and I'm considering buying an acoustic guitar! Someone on craigslist has a Yamaha w/ a hard case, instructional video, and tuner for $75. I looked it up on-line, and it sounds like the model is decent for a beginner, and retails at $150-200. I know $75 is dirt cheap for a guitar, but it's still kind of more than I wanted to spend, because (knowing me) I'm sure I'll just end up giving up on it after a couple of weeks.
Just watched the video - I've never seen it before! '80s cheese at its best!
Oops, I guess I should've labelled all the pics, eh, Claire? Well, if you care to download the last page for another 20 mintues, the first pic is of Sivon (broadway_star_tomorrow) and Nikki (shbrtalley44). The second one is of Toni (Rathnait) and me. The third pic is of Lael, jrb_actor and bwaysinger. Then the rest are self-explanatory.
Congrats on finishing your semester! When do you leave New Zealand to go travelling? Who are you going with?
I liked the cheesehead, Nic! Very flattering. I could eat you up!
And totally get that guitar. The $75 is a good investment in the likely event (*cough*) that you're pulled up on stage at a U2 concert. At the very least, you take up a new skill! I wouldn't mind actually learning the guitar either, beyond tabs. (The only thing I can play is the opening of "Enter Sandman".) Totally do it.
I'm tempted to get the guitar, but I also know that I'll just abandon it after I discover that I'm not innately talented and lack the ability to play a single chord in tune. And I'm certainly not going to pony up the cash to take lessons!
I think I'm going to meet w/ the guy on Friday to give it a look, but $75 is still a fair amount of money for something that I'll potentially just let sit around collecting dust.
The guitar in question
Bump.
I finally got an e-mail back from the GA chick, and apparently she already had a deal worked out, but if she hasn't heard back from them by the end of the week, she'll let me know. Yeah right. Who gets their hands on a GA (er...two, one for each show) and lets them go (unless he's asking for $200 each). Anyway, at least I finally got an answer.
I'm also going to see my first show for Theater Talk on Saturday. Whoo! I don't really know what I'm doing, or how I'll write it, but it's kind of exciting. At least if I do a couple and get them published on PBS's site, I could put that on my resume.
Guess that's about it. I'm beyond bored, and I've got tons of stuff to read. The only problem is, whenever I crack open a book, I find myself nodding off...Crazy came back around 10 last night. I was starting to get a smidge concerned. Nice to leave for 3 days and not even tell me. I know we aren't overly chatty, but I at least left her a note the couple of times I went away for the weekend. Yeah, she's a peach!
Tough call on the guitar, Mabs. If you really want to learn how to play I'd say go for it. That is a good deal.
Crazy's leaving after this semester, right? You'll be rid of her soon! Will you get another roomie or have the place to yourself? I'm worried about who they'll stick me with next semester; because I'm coming back from being abroad I don't get a choice. Hopefully my luck is better than yours!
The ticket situation does look bleak. I haven't seen anyone selling any tickets for 11/21 or 11/22 at a reasonable price, and I've been lookin'. I'm not sure what I'll do on 11/22 if I don't have a ticket by then. If I went home after the 11/21 concert, I probably wouldn't get home until around 2am because of the whole train thing (they don't come that often). Then I'd have to wake up early the next morning and ride all the way back into the city. I'm not sure I'm up for all that traveling, and I know I'd be exhausted by the 11/22 concert even if I miraculously scored a ticket at the B.O. So yeah, I feel ya on the ticket situation. It doesn't look good.
GAH!!!
So the GA chick...apparently I'm the person that she has a deal worked out with!!! After I just wrote that whole ticket rant, too. You can't even believe how excited I am right now, even though my excitement is tainted by the fact that I kinda (unintentionally) beat Mabs to the tickets and raised the price for us in doing so. But we have tickets!!! That's all that matters, right??
Claire, it's $10!!! I think I can handle that! Though, I do think it's pretty funny that we were the two people duking it out!!! There's no one I'd rather duke it out w/ than you though, my dear!!!
I wanna dance w/ BOOOOONNNNOOOOO!!!! *thinks of a certain song that Elphie doesn't know about, and pictures me busting it out to it*
It's hilarious that we were the two people duking it out; I was sure someone else would have emailed her with some insane offer and that neither of us had a chance!
I'm SO excited right now.
I'm seriously having irrational desires to dance w/ Bono. I've been pondering it off and on since we had the whole guitar convo(DAMN! I wish I could play!), and now that there's even that glimmer of potential! I'm totally making a sign. I promise, Bono, I wouldn't get grabby like that crazy during Mysterious Ways on the first leg, and I wouldn't be "difficult" like that blonde chick (on an unnamed song) on 10/8. I'd just stand there and cuddle. PROMISE!!!
Love and Peace or Else from GA!!! *faints* Drags self back together, thinks of Sunday Bloody Sunday...*thud*
Go buy that guitar and start learning, Mabs! Maybe I'll start practicing as well. And we should totally make signs.
Well, if I do get it (and I'm thinking I might not now, since I'll be buying that GA), I wouldn't be getting it until Friday. In which case, unless I'm some sort of prodigy, I don't think I'll be learning anything in a week and a couple days!
That's ok, because there's always my lack of dance skills to get me through.
But I'm a good dancer, Jerry!
HAHA.
Okay, so maybe pass on the guitar. You can save up and buy one later, and then prepare for U2's next tour. If you've got dance moves like those, who needs a guitar anyway?
Anyway, I'm off now. I seriously can't wipe the smile off my face.
Bye, Claire!!! *beams*
I've got until Friday to decide on the guitar. We'll see. Maybe I can get my folks to reimburse me and have it be a Christmas present??
What a great way to kick off your vacation time in NZ! I think you'll have a hard time wiping that smile off your face when you visit Auckland!!!
Oh my god! Oh my GOD! You guys have GA?? Oh my GOD!! Holy SH*T!!
NICOLE, GET THAT F*CKING GUITAR AND LEARN HARLEM AND I WILL FOLLOW PRONTO!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!
(Why am I so excited when I'm not even going??)
My Mom's an eejit.
"Guess what! Nicole and Claire just got floor tickets to U2 next week at barely over face value!"
"...well, that's dumb. Why didn't they buy those tickets when they first went on sale?"
"Do you know how hard it is to get floor seats?"
[indifferent shrug]
Jesus.
YAY!!!!!
Well fine then, leave me. I'm not going to celebrate enough to make up for the two of youse.
(Wenches.)
Where's Ellie? She and I can commiserate.
AAAHHHHH!!!! I called my mom and frantically told her that I want to be suddenly gifted w/ Felicity Huffman's trashy dance skills (re: Sports Night and her "Dance of Joy"). In a fit of giddiness I just popped on the song that I PMd you about and danced frantically around my apt! Good thing I had the good sense to go into the hall/bedroom, so the people in the office building across the street couldn't see! Elaine's got nothin' on me!
I'm debating whether or not I can swing getting the guitar now. I'm certainly not dillusional enough to think that I could eak out any semblance of a song between Friday and the 21st, though I am going to be making me a lovely sign w/ "that song" on it (and that charming black and white of Bono and Edge playing it...have you seen it? Very cute!). I could die a happy girl if I could shake my ass to that song. I am seriously the most reserved person ever, but I'd bust it out for that song like it was nobody's business! And if he clung to me like that wench (er, that charming and lovely dancer...don't want to risk any bad karma) at 10/14...I think they'd need to phone an ambulance to cart me off afterwards!
Who am I kidding? Let's keep it simple for now. I would be perfectly content getting there early (that much I can control) and maybe getting a smile or a wink from Adam.
The question du jour is now: To bring the camera, or not to bring the camera? I really don't want to have ANY extra crap to keep an eye on. Maybe I'll get a disposable, so that I'll have something but I won't have to worry about keeping track of it.
ETA: I didn't leave you, I was just busy typing out my little novel in response.
Get the guitar. Seriously. What are you going to regret more? Buying the guitar, not being chosen to go on stage, but picking up a new skill? Or not buying the guitar, being chosen to go on stage, and then being kicked off - and having BONO disappointed in YOU - because you couldn't play a kazoo, much less I Will Follow?
ETA: And you're damn well bringing the camera. A disposable won't look as good, it's really not THAT chaotic on the floor, and the quality of photos can turn out amazing. Look at how crappy my digital was for our seats, but I got some ker-azy shots of the band from the floor! Think of what your camera could do! Plus you don't have to worry about focussing, zooming, etc. You know your pics will turn out good, so just gape all you want, keep pressing the button, and be pleasantly surprised when you get home!
TABLATURE: A six-line staff that graphically represents the guitar fingerboard, with the top line indicating the highest sounding string (high E). By placing a number on the appropriate line, the string and fret of any note can be indicated. The number 0 represents an open string. The 0's mean that string is played "open" (no finger) and the other numbers indicate which fret you place your finger on. An 'X' means to muffle, not let it ring.
HAHAHA!!! AAahhh, so now I'm officially set for IWF.
I think I'll probably still end up getting the guitar, but I don't think I'll spend more than a couple hours playing with it before the concert. There's seriously no way I can teach myself how to play a song in a week.
Is it wrong that the main reason I'm thinking of not bringing my camera is: "What would I do w/ it if Bono pulled me up on stage? I couldn't be (pretend to be) danc(ing) to "that song" w/ a camera!" ?!?!? I think I need psycheatric help. Let's wait until good ol' Stacey replies that everything is A-OK before I start going totally mental.
I'm tellin' ya. If you don't hack out the first - nay, the ONLY - three chords of I Will Follow by the concert, I will HIT you. In fact, this is all I will be dogging you with from now until the concert. It's THREE chords. It's SO easy. It PAINS me to see this waste away, Nic! The karma's gonna dictate that you get pulled up, then sent back down because you can't play the guitar!
Picture this - not only does Bono think you're a hot dancing chick for [that song], but he'll fall in love with you if you're a hot dancing chick who can ALSO play the guitar!
Learn it, learn it, learn it.
Find me an equally simple to play acoustic song, Tiff! In Nicole's Land of Fantasy and Psychosis, I at least like to be quasi-realistic in my uber-craziness. I'm never going to get to play IWF acoustically, so I need something that I can at least pretend would be feasible...Is AoH equally "simple"?? That would make me the hero of all of New York City...and it would spare everyone my lame-ass (lack of) dancing skills.
The only diff between acoustic and not is being plugged in! If you can do it on an acoustic, you can do it on an electric! (Well, actually, in my experience, an electric's strings tend to be firmer and slightly tougher to press than an acoustic, but that's nothing, really.)
Edited: Because that formatting didn't work and I didn't want to scare you.
