Mabs, your list looks good!

I can't wait 'til I'm in Auckland next week. I'm going to go stand on One Tree Hill and listen to the song over and over on my iPod. ____ [name]'s ______ [event] Day! (Part __ [number])! U2 mad-libs!

Awww, I'm so jealous, Elphie!!! I loooooove that song. Did you hear that they're confirmed for Australia and NZ? I think I saw that they're supposed to be playing Auckland on St. Patrick's Day! If only I were made of money! ____ [name]'s ______ [event] Day! (Part __ [number])! U2 mad-libs!

Oh well, at least that'll mean a recent boot w/ OTH! When was the last time they played it? 1989, I think!...I honestly think I'd die. I love me some Bad and Running to Stand Still (my other two big tear-jerkers), but I swear I'd BAWL like a baby if I ever got to hear OTH live. There's some rumblings about them doing a handful of stadiums in the States, so maybe if they'd gotten it all polished up in NZ, they'd play it here?? It sounds like Fenway is nixing any other big concerts, which sucks. If I could get GA at Fenway! ON THE FIELD AT FENWAY!!! Oh man! It's probably just as well, because I wouldn't get them through general sale, and I'd be so beyond tempted to pay an obscene price to see U2 from the field.

That's true, OTH in Auckland would be pretty mind blowing. (And on St. Patty's Day???) Now, a show in Dublin on St. Patty's Day...has it happened before in the history of U2 touring? Would be pretty incredible.

Does this mean Boston next summer is definitely out? ____ [name]'s ______ [event] Day! (Part __ [number])! U2 mad-libs! Too bad - there's usually a ridiculously cheap seat sale from Vancouver to Boston (like, under CAD$200 including taxes) and I would totally go. Hey...you know, Nic, if that's the case, you could seriously come up to Vancouver next summer. What say you? Spend US$150 on your ticket, and bring like, an extra US$150 and you're seriously set for the week.

ETA: CQ! What clothes did you buy? Now, if you describe them using colours like "teal", "taupe" and "meringue", you may be a bit gay. And that'd be okay!

*sigh* I can't believe I actually looked this up!

U2 St. Patrick's Day concerts:
1978: Dublin (their first concert as U2, changing their name from The Hype).
NYC on October Tour
Sheffield, UK on War Tour
Boston ZooTV Tour

I suppose they could still play a stadium in Boston in the summer (if they actually do some dates in the US at stadiums; it's still just rumored). They could easily play at Foxboro (where the Patriots play...Gillette Stadium). Though getting there would be a bit more of a challenge, considering I don't really drive. Fenway would have been great though, because it's reletively small. It's the smallest baseball park. If I were seeing a stadium show, I'd love for it to be a smallish venue, rather than an 80,000 football stadium, you know?

Anyway, I'll be considering a jaunt out to Vancouver. I suppose it'll depend on what the work front is looking like.

How many seats is Gillette? Even though the concept of a stadium concert is awesome, if I wasn't in the first 5 rows on the ground or right next to the stage, it probably wouldn't be worth it, eh?

Gillette Stadium is a little under 70,000 seats and Fenway is a little under 35,000. So Fenway's only a bit larger than arenas.

I don't think I'd even bother trying for GA unless they happened to change their mind about Fenway. I wouldn't even want to risk being so far back at a stadium...well, maybe if I got some for face at $50, and I would totally get there at the ass crack of dawn to get a quasi-decent (or at least not horrible) spot. I think the idea of seeing them in a venue w/ that many people w/ that energy would be great, but I think there's got to be a hell of a lot of really crap seats. I wonder if they'd even sell the whole stadium though? Even the layout for the Stones had the stage at about the 50 yard line at the football stadiums, w/ 1/2 the stadium being left empty. In which case, if you're only going to sell 30,000 seats, why bother even doing a stadium leg? Maybe that was just a Stones thing and U2 would try selling the entire stadium? I don't know. I just remember 1/2 of Giants Stadium being greyed out for the Stones in September on the TM seating chart.

I wonder if the acoustics tend to be sort of shoddy for stadium shows. I suppose you go to them more for the crowd energy than anything else (and on the bright side, we would barely be able to understand his MD and ONE spiels! "Call-ll-ll your mother-r-r...pay-y-y your gas-s-s bills-s-s...").

The "ass crack of dawn"? ____ [name]'s ______ [event] Day! (Part __ [number])! U2 mad-libs! 'Tis true though, but I don't remember based on those clips from Brussels whether the stadium tour allows more stage space (and thus, a better opportunity to be close to the stage/run). Maybe not - they didn't create a stadium-specific stage, did they?

Indeed, they did have a stadium specific stage set up. There was no behind the stage seating, and instead of the light curtains, they had a huge wall/screen of lights. And there wasn't an enclosed elipse, but two runs that came out into the GA space, but didn't connect, from what I recall. I'm not sure how the sound would be, but the idea of the weather playing such a key part in your enjoyment of the show is also kind of an iffy thing. I don't think I'd be too keen on kicking around for hours on end only to end up getting stuck in the rain for a concert. Though, if you lucked out and caught a nice night, I'm sure it would really be something to hear them outside on a summer night. I don't know. It's not like anything's officially been announced anyway. As of right now, it's just Australia and NZ. Though, there are rumors about S. America and Mexico, and you would think if they're in Mexico, doing stadiums, they might as well swing back through major US cities for some stadium dates if they could easily sell them out (which I'd imagine they could).

Oh, and yeah...Bono definitely needs to vary his banter. Even he sounds bored on the boots on the "call your mother, pay your gas bill" bit. If you can do so damn much w/ a cell phone, why not vary what you can do w/ them from night to night...at least change what kind of bill you're paying! "Call your brother, pay your electric bill." Now would that be so tough?!

Edited to remove that ridiculously large picture. Just take my word for the fact that your chances of getting a quasi-decent spot at a stadium show are next to nil!

Patronus! How was Chita? Tell all. Did you send flowers? Go to the stage door? How was the drive home?

Also, I don't know if you were planning on seeing this, but apparently Billy Crystal tickets went on sale at midnight today. Are you going to check it out? (It's in Hell-Ay.)

Thanks for the pic, Nic. (Heh...picNic.) Already from this point of view, the stage is miniscule. Even from the seats the side of the stage, everything would be so far away! Yeah, if it's not GA, it's so not worth it.

(And if you're content being in the back of the crowd and not actually seeing a thing, you might as well just pack a picnic (no pun intended!) and sit outside of the stadium to listen, like what Jez mentioned before.)

I don't think there would be any good spots at a stadium show, honestly. Unless you had GA, got there 2 days ahead of time and waited to get a spot right up front. The seats look a mile away and who wants to be on the field hundreds of yards away?!? Though, I've read some people's reviews where they said they had no desire to ever see a concert in an arena, because it's just too small. Dunno.

Anyway, guess that's about it. Pat, be sure to let us know how darling Chita was!!!

Oh, and SPOILERS FROM LAST NIGHT'S VEGAS SHOW to follow. But before I go into specifics, I'll just say that Brandon Flowers showed up to guest on a song in the encore (I won't say what song here, Elphie! ____ [name]'s ______ [event] Day! (Part __ [number])! U2 mad-libs! ) Was that the show groupie was supposed to go to?!? I couldn't remember what her email was, and I've got one that looks like it might have been hers. I don't know. It's my own fault for not setting up a proper address book!) Anyway:

So, VegasII was basically an evening of Achtung!!! They played Mysterious Ways and UTEOTW (in place of the Boy songs at the beginning of the set) for the first time since June in Europe, according to u2tours.com! And they played the Zoo Station/Fly encore for the first time since our show at MSG on 10/10! MJB came on to guest on One again, and Brandon Flowers joined them for In a Little While during the second encore! They also did a snippet of All These Things That I've Done in Beautiful Day! Sounds like a great show!! Pity they couldn't have tossed Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses in there to have a full-out Actung Fest!! It looks like a must-have boot, I'd say.

/SPOILERS! ____ [name]'s ______ [event] Day! (Part __ [number])! U2 mad-libs! Only a couple more weeks of this Elphie! Then we can have a full fledged dishing of the 3rd leg/end of 2nd leg goings-on! I can't wait!!! It seems like a lot of people are bitching about static setlists on interference, but since you haven't looked at all, I have a feeling you're in for some serious surprises!!! And depending on what they do on Monday's show, you should be good for at least a few new songs, which is always good fun!! Pat, did you look at the reviews/setlists we posted from our shows, or are you totally in the dark as well?

Wow. Just...wow. I hope you-know-who and Bono didn't try to "harmonize" (try "cacophonize"?) you-know-what! But still. An evening of you-know-what [album]?? My God! And yeah, that's the show Groupie was gonna be at. You know, if you search for her posts, if her name's in red, you can click it to email her directly fro mBWW. I don't know if she has that function on.

A little of both I guess. I haven't strongly been avoiding them, but I don't really read them either.

As long as they play "Beautiful Day" and "One", I'll be happy. If they play "Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses", I'll be thrilled. If they play "Dancing Barefoot", I'll piss myself. ____ [name]'s ______ [event] Day! (Part __ [number])! U2 mad-libs!

Elphie, there definitely isn't the clear-cut rotation of songs for this leg that there was on the first: Night I: An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart and Electric Co.; Night II: Gloria/The Ocean and Bad. For a while there seemed to be a pattern, but then that kind of got shot to hell. I really don't think there's any telling what you're going to get. Not that there's that much variation. Like from one night to the next there'd be 1/2 dozen switched around songs (far from it) but there are a handful of spots where it's kind of up in the air w/ what you'll get. A lot of 2 show cities after NYC, didn't have any easily pin-pointed "this is NightI, that is NightII" setlists.

And I don't think the "You know who" harmonizing would be a spoiler. It was Mary J. Blige on One again. Obviously they're going to be singing One at every show, and I don't think I put that in the spoilers for our first show (and Tiff and I came back and bitched about it numerous times since). The Brandon Flowers song was fairly unique, so I won't go into that. Just keep your fingers crossed that MJB doesn't pop up for your show. If she does, they should just let her sing it, because she and Bono singing together...Not. Good.

And yeah, Tiff. I think I would have died if I were at that show! UGH!

Okay, well it's not spoilers if we discuss the HTDAAB songs, right? I mean, Claire's seen the first leg, and it IS the Vertigo tour, so it's expected that an assload of HTDAAB songs will still be there for the third leg. (So we can freely bitch about how we'd be happy never hearing Miracle Drug/STYCMIOYO combo live ever again?)

"Dancing Barefoot"? Haha! Hahahaha! Yeah, maybe it'll be a "Dancing Barefoot"/"Mofo"/"One Tree Hill" medley! Hahahahahaha! Or Bono will just mumble aimlessly into the microphone for a snippet, then wail away in some repetitive tune while plugging his nose, as a shout-out to the other opening acts of yesteryear.

<-- bitter

I'm curious about the November setlists though - it's a total toss-up for what the setlist is going to be. On one hand, there's a one month gap since last time, so maybe they would re-use a lot of the old setlists from there. On the other hand, it's still New York and it's their last jaunt so they may throw something wacky in there. (Like AoH or NY!)

I suspect the 11/22 show will be F*CKing AMAZING though.

Good review, Patty! Dontcha wish you sent the flowers now?

Edited: Because "numble" isn't a word.
