Wait a minute? It's COLD there? I can't wear my cargo shorts and a tshirt? F that, I am going to Hawaii!
We have quite a few warm clothes options so we should be good.
Thank God I have an excuse to wear my peacoat and my overcoat!!!
anjilly used to get freakishly cold, so this is probably going to feel like Antartica to her.
SP78, I just sent you a PM regarding GOF.
Tiff, I am a notorious overpacker. It's just what I do.
Oh, they finally announced who is going to be on The View for my screening and it's less than thrilling:
Anne Heche, carpet cleaning tips and Ashlee Simpson performs.
So, we are probably going to get out of there with some carpet shampoo and an Ashlee Simpson CD. meh.
"Tiff, I am a notorious overpacker. It's just what I do.

Of course you are, sometimes this is just silly.
That view sounds terrible! It's the reason I never signed up to try SNL, first the cast is awful, then you might get stuck with Lance Armstrong as your host. Your carpet cleaner is a better actor than he, or Crow.
You are an overpacker too? Shocking.
Since most of the U2 girls don't know - SP78 and I have discovered that we have an unsettling number of things in common. It's just getting stupid at this point.
Yeah, I have to give some serious thought as to whether or not I want to suffer through the View. I think I can find better use of my time just wandering around the city. Of course if I DON'T go, they'll end up giving away some amazing prize to compensate for the terrible guests.
I bet it is $5000 cash, that sounds like adequate compensation.
Or free U2 tickets you can pass on to a friend.
$5000 might be adequate compensation.
I'll need someone to spy what they give away on Monday. That would help I guess.
So yeah, I should be cleaning/packing right now. What am I doing instead? Making copies of things for sp78, posting and cleaning Broadway clips off my Tivo.
I should be budgeting our other three chapters, and entering submissions into the database. What am I doing? Writing long PMs about Harry Potter, copying things for Pat, and scouring BWW for anything that is remotely interesting.
Are they definitely giving stuff away for Thansgiving week? I swear they did last year, because I remember that I was tempted to try for standby. And it couldn't have been for Christmas, because I would have been gone by then...I think. Oh, I don't remember. I'd wait until Monday. See if they were giving stuff away, and if they are, I'd suffer through it. They gave away some quality SH*T last year! iPods, digital cameras, etc, etc. Hmmm...maybe it was for Christmas, and they were just doing it significantly earlier than the week of Christmas??
Hopefully someone can watch it Monday and post what the loot is?
Honestly, I'd much rather spend that two hours wandering through the city than suffering through people that I don't care for. Not to mention - a free Ashlee Simpson CD is a given and I'd rather not have that in my collection at all.
Can I just point out that it's been in the mid to high 80's this entire week here?
I can assure you that will not be the temperature here.
Well, it was like 65 two days ago...now it's 40. Go figure! It shall definitely be an adjustment, Pat!
I don't know what's wrong with me. I appear to have lost all my New England heartiness. I've turned into such a wimp with cold weather...Monday should be...interesting. BBBBbbbbbbrrrrr!!!
Good lord, it's "Let's Hang on to What We've Got"...AGAIN! That damn CD guy! Groundhog Day, I tell ya! I'm half tempted to start throwing stuff out my window at him, if I wasn't totally terrified of getting caught and being slapped with some crazy fine.
I'd settle for half of that.
PROGRESS REPORT!
The laundry is done. The dishes are done and the first 3 discs of Goblet of Fire have been loaded into my iPod.
All of the copying of shoes is done.
It's starting to look like a dent.
Congrats on making a dent, Pat. I've done ABSOLUTELY nothing today. I went to that useless computery thing, did laundry (I guess that's an accomplishment...at least now Claire will have clean sheets and a towel!) and I've read all of 20 pages of my book for Brit-Lit. Ugh. I think I need to just turn my damn computer off...but I'm waiting for the reply (that never coming) for my cheap Alanis tix tonight. Whatever, I need to go to another concert like I need a hole in the head. Besides, I've already seen her twice this year...though my friend I was going to bring has never seen her, and it would have been fun to bring her. Oh well. I have more work her to (pretent to be) do(ing).
Hmmm...what to do?!? I just got an e-mail from my GA ticket person. She said she doesn't think she's going to want to fend off the cold for very long and doesn't think she wants to get in line until 5:30 or so. What to do?!? I don't want to risk getting stuck in the back, but I also don't really want to wait for hours and hours in the cold (and I don't want to wait solo and have her go to the back of the line and lose out on my extra chance to get scanned in). Hmmm...I just want to be able to see.
Wow, there really isn't an easy answer to that one.
Sounds like you just have to go when she goes to ensure that everything works out well.
Is this for Monday or Tuesday?
Monday. Part of me is thinking it really shouldn't matter, since I have a friend that arrived so much later on a FRIDAY and still ended up on the rail (for some reason NYC seems to be odd w/ GA like that...with people coming really late) and Tiff and I seeing that you could get w/in a few rows as late as 9pm! But anothe part of me (the vertically challenged part) is worried about getting stuck several rows back and not being able to see anything.
I suppose there really isn't a whole lot to do about it, other than hope that lots and lots of people don't want to brave the cold and decide to show up later.
That is a realistic possibility as well, mabs.
I am sure it will work out for you. I am clear across the arena for the show, so you'll be closer than me.
Back from HP! Patronus, let's discuss! (I put my initial thoughts on the appropriate thread already, but I'd like to converse about this with other fans!)
Nic, is there any way you can pick up the ticket from her in advance to the show?
Woohoo! Going to Alanis tonight! I managed to snag a pair for $30!! Should be fun, and the guy can't meet until just before the show starts, so not GA-line waiting here either.
I read a post on interference by someone who went the the 10/11 MSG show w/ GA. S/he got there at 4:30 and had a rail spot no problem...then I read another one and the poster who went to the 10/7 show and got a rail spot...but s/he got there at 7:30am!! #49 in line! Eeeeekkk! I'm going to stress about this all weekend, I know.
Pat, even though you're across the arena, you'll still have a great time. That's where I sat in Boston. The highest section in the very last row, and it was FABULOUS! It's such a great view of the light curtains and the show as a whole, and the boys totally reach all the way across...My issue with being late and being far away is not being able to see, since I'm on the short side and the floor is flat. It's not strictly a distance-if I can't see their faces then why bother-sort of issue, you know?
Though, I've also read that there are people who camp out by the sound booth handing out wristbands before the show starts, so I suppose if I don't end up w/in a reasonable distance from the rail, I'll mill around back there.
I'm worried about the chance of you being more than 5 people away from the rail. But if the weather is really that cold, maybe it won't be so bad. I hope. (Then again, I don't think cold deters people from camping out as much as windiness and rain does, and I think that was what helped for 10/8-10/14.) (Don't forget Nic, 10/7 was a really hot sunny day - almost stiflingly so, but 10/8 onwards was pissing, which may have been why the 10/7 person was cutting it closer.)
Yeah...I don't really know what I should do. I suppose I can always swing up there after I get out of class and if there are tons of people already in line then I'll just stay and say tough to Stacey. I don't have $75 to just piss away, and regardless of how great the boys are, a 5'3" girl 15 rows back on the floor would be $$ pissed away. Acutally, if I ended up that far back, I'd just hang by the sound board. It's got to get to a point where far back is far back, and if I'm not w/in a few rows of the ellipse, I might as well give that up and hang farther back to avoid the masses, etc.
I don't want to show up at 5:30 (or later). She said she had friends who showed up that late at another MSG show and got on the rail fine (and again, my 7pm friend), but I'd feel better getting there at 3:30 or so, the latest. I'll have all of Thanksgiving break to recover from any illnesses I get from milling around in the cold for hours.
I just keep getting visions of 10/14 with that empty floor at NINE PM!!! On a Friday! I'd have to think a cold Monday would have to have fewer people getting there early (even w/o rain).
That's true. What would you regret more - suffering in the cold (possibly catching a cold/flu) but getting a great spot, or saving yourself a few warm hours, not have to rush as much, but being forced to make friends with the sound board dudes? It's a question of security versus convenience, really.
Do you think she'd give you the ticket in advance?
I'm not even sure when she's getting into the city yet. I got an e-mail from her today and she's going to call me tomorrow. I guess we'll have come up with some sort of a game plan then. UGH! How can these people do GA over and over. I'm doing it once and I'm starting to freak out (starting to?)!!!
Dude, try to meet her in advance. Seriously. You're spending $75 and she seems...not shady, but unreliable and not as committed to this as you. Get yer ticket and go whenever you choose. At least you won't be relying on her.
While I'm tempted to do that, I also want her there to double my lotto odds. She doesn't seem shady, but she has done GA multiple times, and I don't think being farther back is as big an issue for her. I think she's definitely more concerned with not freezing her ass off. She said for one of the Philly shows she did the waiting all day thing (got there at 6am) and got a great spot. So to me, I think she's kind of like "I've done this before and had my great spot, so it's not such a huge deal to me." I'll see what she has to say tomorrow. If she's willing to meet me somewhere in the middle, not 10am, but not 5:30-6, then I think I'd be fine with that.
I feel really bad for Claire, since it looks like she'll be getting the rain now. And it sucks that she's going on Tuesday, because I've got class pretty much all day, so she's getting the boot at 10am, no matter what so a.)even if she did decide she'd rather join the line later, she's got to out of my place in the morning, and b.)since I have class all day, I can't even go up there to bail her out for a little while and hold her place in line if she wanted to go to Macy's for an hour or so to warm up.
