Hey all! I'm back in the States! And I haven't slept in about 40 hours. And it's cold here. So I'm not thinking clearly. And you guys filled up a lotta pages since I was last here! Did I miss anything important? I don't really have time to go back and read all that. Anyway, I can't wait for Monday and Tuesday!
Oh, is it supposed to rain on Tuesday? Yuck. Oh well, hopefully that'll mean there won't be as many other crazies in line and I'll be towards the front!

I am a bigger fan of the part that said "16 and older only, WE WILL ID."

Seriously, do they expect to find enough over 16 fans of Ashlee Simpson to prevent it from looking sad and pathetic? Very optimistic.

You get to DANCE with ASH? OmG that is just AMAZING!

(I would begin and end sarcasm, but I never really stop.)

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

That sounds MISERABLE. Do you think they'll put an age cap on there too? "Must be under 30 and not have prematurely gray hair or saddlebags. WE WILL ID AND WEIGH."

I just accepted a gig on Monday - PAing for Supernatural! I haven't seen it yet, but Jensen Ackles is hot, no matter how you cut it. I turned down Scary Movie 4 for tomorrow (4:30am call time? I think not!) but I'm glad to be making at least a bit o' money again. Whew.

ETA: You didn't miss anything groundbreaking, Claire! Nic's getting ready for Thanksgiving weekend and finishing up her courses, I'm winding down my pharmacy job, angsting over law school and turning down PA jobs, and Stephen, Anjilly and SmartPenguin are planning their time in NY.

Ick! That Ashley Simpson business sounds hellish! Blech!!! This is still for The View, right? How many 16 year olds do they really expect to have in the audience?! This sounds like it's going to be a mess...it could actually be pretty interesting. I'd say you guys would probably be the youngest people in the audience. Doesn't The View tend to skew up, like 30s-40s. Can you imagine a bunch of 40 year olds with blank, unamused faces watching Ashley Simpson?! Fun, fun!

I just got back from Alanis at Roseland Ballroom. Boy do I have good karma when it comes to that place! We got our tix for $15/ea, and I was a little worried about not being able to see a damn thing, because we weren't supposed to meet the guy until 9. We met him, had the ticket transaction, and went on our way. Roseland Ballroom is on 52nd, about half way between 8th and Broadway, so the line went up to Broadway and was snaking along 52nd. Since the doors opened at 8 and it was already 9, I figured the lag in the sidewalk was the end of the line...WRONG! It was just a gap, since every once in a while they stopped people to control the line. We followed it along, all the way up to 53rd, around the corner and 3/4 of the way up towards 8th!!!

So, we're thinking "good thing we only spent $15, because we're not going to be able to see a damn thing!" Well, we get in around quarter past and the floor is full. We mill around for a couple minutes, and then decide to walk down the side and see if we can scoot in anywhere. Well, we end up right by past the corner of the stage about 6 rows from the stage!!! Closer than I was for U2 in Brooklyn, but a significantly better spot, because we're in the front row right before there's a dip in the floor, so we're 3-4 inches higher than everyone else! Perfect, perfect view!!

The only drawback was the occasional pushy guy who tried to shove his way in, but after a couple of them, I'd had enough and stood firm against letting them think they could forcibly shove their way up front. Take that! Oh, one more drawback. The drunk chick next to/in front of me who had long blonde hair (well past her butt) who kept flipping it into my face. At one point, she bent over for something and whipped back up leaving me w/ a mouthfull of her lovely golden tresses. Blech!

It was a great concert. Plugged in. I don't really remember what she played, but I'll post a setlist after I find it.

Speaking of setlists, U2's was kind of odd tonight. Not really anything crazy out of the ordinary, but some strange shifting in order. And can I just say how odd it is that U2tours.com lists "Happy Birthday" as a song in the setlist! "Oooh, I had such a great set last night. They played One, and Streets, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" Though it does seem to be quite the regular lately. They'll scrape up anyone to sing Happy Birthday to!...Hope that's not spoiling anything for ya, Elphie! Can I? Can I really?

I love Alanis live. I am glad you enjoyed the show, Nicole!

Tiff, I am going to have to wait a while to share my HP thoughts with you in detail, though I can forward you the PM I originally sent to sp78 about my complaints.

I am officially off for the night. I gotta get up at about 4:30 to get ready to head off to the airport, so I am going to say good night.

See some of you soon!

How many times have you seen Alanis this year??? Isn't she on a North American tour? And she's been in New York how many times? I would love to see her plugged in, but I must admit my fanship pretty much begins and ends at JLP. (I like some of her sophomore stuff, but not much of her newest stuff.)

Yeah, sorry for the spoiler Claire. I don't mean us ruining the surprise - I mean the fact that the random "Happy Birthday" will spoil the pace of the evening. Patty and *A* in NYC! - Have a good flight! It's like he's raking his head of songs where the words are universally known, so he can rest his vocals and let the audience sing it all. So of course he can't choose a U2 song or people will wonder why they paid $160 to hear themselves sing instead of the guy who has to read "Happy Birthday" lyrics off the teleprompter. Patty and *A* in NYC! - Have a good flight! "Happy birthday to...you? Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear insert name?--oh, Mom. Happy birthday to you."

14 threads on the main board related to Rent or Rent cast members. Is this a new high? (Or low?)

Yeah, Alanis is in a strong second after the boys for the number of times I've seen her in concert this year. Though they were all pretty different. Certainly JLP acoustic at Radio City was 180 degrees away from last night...and for $15? How can you turn that down?!?

Here's the setlist:
Your House
8 Easy Steps
Hands Clean
Hand In My Pocket
Flinch
Sister Blister
Head Over Feet
All I Really Want
R U Still Mad?
You Learn
Front Row
Crazy
You Oughta Know
Everything
Ironic
_______
Uninvited
_______
Thank U

And yeah, I agree that I'm definitely a JLP girl. I'm all about her playing as many of those as humanly possible, which made the Radio City concert so great, even if they were all stripped down. It was a good show though. The friend I brought (who never likes ANYTHING I bring her to) even had a great time, so it was definitely a success!

Happy Birthday needs to be stopped! I think if I were to make a sign (which I really don't plan on doing anymore) I'd scrap the "Let's Dance" motif, and just write "Happy Birthday" HUGE and draw a big red line through it. It was kind of amusing to hear once (because really...it's BONO singing Happy Birthday) but if you look back over the setlists, they've sung it an awful lot on the 2nd and 3rd legs!

I'm so sick of hearing about the RENT movie. I'd say I'm as excited about seeing it on Wednesday as the next person, but apparently I'm not! I've heard some pretty bad things about it, and while I still can't wait, some of these people are just way over the line. I mean there's a practically a new thread for every review, every premiere, every press junket, every time someone from the show (er, Rosario) is on a talk show. Can't they just have ONE thread for everything? Or how about making a board like our sub-U2 one and talking there? Ugh! Can you imagine how many threads there'll be once it actually opens?!?!?

I'm really, really excited about the Rent movie, but I agree that some people on this board need to really calm down about it.

Alanis sounds great! I loved the acoustic JLP set that we saw her do at Radio City, but I can imagine that it's a totally, and just as amazing, experience plugged in! And I love Flinch, you're lucky to have heard that!

Hey Claire! Are you at Nic's now? Glad to be back? (Do you have a bit of a Kiwi accent?)

I would've loved to see a JLP acoustic, but I think a plugged in JLP would be my ideal. The setlist from yesterday looks great though - I recognize all the new non-JLP songs, which is always a good thing, so it would have been a very enjoyable time. And for $15, how could you go wrong?

Nic, instead of "Happy Birthday" crossed out, you should do, "Bono it's my birthday!" with an arrow pointing down! I think that would guarantee you at least a shout-out! (So...I take it, "Bono, I can play I Will Follow on the guitar!" just didn't pan out? Patty and *A* in NYC! - Have a good flight!)

I'm so over reading about the Rent movie. I was more excited about HP4, and the buzz for that movie was much more positive than Rent. I'm excited about it and all, and will catch it on Wednesday (possibly with GoF right after), but I'm not getting my hopes up about it because the reviews have been mixed and the trailers have ranged from cheesy to hottt (hello Rosario!). Unfortunately, Wednesday and onward will be a nightmare because everyone reeks of self-importance and thinks that their review warrants a new thread. But...they don't. I loathe starting new threads.

Claire's staying at my place Monday and Tuesday. And with any luck Crazy and CrazyII won't even be around! You just never know though. Oh, and Claire, I give you fair warning: I don't think I have the strength to really clean my place, so expect many piles of books and papers! It's not like I've got rotten food in the sink or anything, but I do have lots and lots of clutter! Patty and *A* in NYC! - Have a good flight!

I agree with the RENT over-zealousness. I'll be seeing it Wednesday as soon as I can, but I really don't see the need to have a minimum of a dozen threads up on the 1st page of the main board at any given time. One thread for reviews, and one thread for TV appearances/print interviews and articles. I really don't see why there's any need for more than that! Maybe we should've been starting new threads for each U2 show we went to?? We've been slacking!

Alanis really was great! Good mix of songs, I must say. I might have liked another song or two from JLP, but I've no complaints!! It was definitely different to see her plugged in. Though I think she was even more rocking w/ her shortened set opening for the Stones. She was pretty fierce there!

Just e-mailed someone about possible U2 tickets for Tuesday, so everyone keep your fingers crossed! Er, I suppose that might make it hard to type, so keep your toes crossed instead. And thanks to Mabel for the tip off!!

I've had a rather sucky weekend, so this is just what I need. Yesterday evening, whilst out strolling alone, I was attacked!!!!! Okay, so it was by a fourteen year old thug, but still...'twas scary. He wouldn't let me pass, and he kept raising his fist to me and calling me a ****ing bitch. He kept repeating "Whatchoo call me?? Whatchoo say 'bout me?" in a rather slurred way and he smelled of alcohol and appeared quite drugged up. I managed to get away, but not before he spat at me and called me a ****ing ****. And I'm crossing my toes for you! It would be great to get to see you on Tuesday!

I just got back from SWIWS, and I loved it. I've stayed away from reviews because I didn't want to be influenced by them (I'm doing the same with the Rent movie), and I really enjoyed it. I thought the entire cast was great. I got autographs from all 5 of them, too!

Geez, Ellie!! That sounds absolutely crazy!!! At least you made it through ok. Totally could have been worse in the grand scheme of things. Though it doesn't make you feel any less violated.

Elphie, glad you caught Idina. I'm rather shocked that she stopped, especially considering she was on her way to a RENT event. Maybe this will bode well for good luck for all of us in the next couple of days!!

Just a reminder that the U2 60 Minutes thing is on in a bit, on CBS.

I suppose abnoxious teens loiter around everywhere, though you'd certainly like to think that you won't be harrassed in your own neighborhood! I hope you feel better, Ellie.

Elphie, 60 Minutes was good fun. Highlights: Bono insulting the French; Edge's "what I love most about U2 is how humble we are...Hey, where's the champagne?!"; Adam and Bradley having their cappuccino below the stage, "It's the little perks that count!"...it's a shame it was so short. They all seemed pretty jovial and animated. It would have been nice to see a longer piece like this.
