Ooh, you were able to load the videos of 11/21, Claire? Beeyatch! You must be the reason it's an expired link for me now!

Nope, I saw their setlist on the AF site. They opened their sets with Wake Up (they played Streets before the band took the stage) and closed their set out w/ Rebellion (Lies). And then they played Love Will Tear Us Apart with U2 on the second Montreal date.

U2 and Arcade Fire in Montreal.

Tiff, here's "In a Little While."

And the 11/21 videos were on megaupload, so they should be available (I don't think those expire).

Oooh. Still looks like that would be an amazing show. I'd go out of my way to get some footwear of that if Arcade Fire was included (I've just downloaded a few of their songs and I'm on a bit of an Arcade Fire high). Nic, did you ever end up getting the new FF CD? I'll B+P you for it!

Thanks for the links, guys. Maybe I'm thinking of a different thread, Claire. I'll try to find the Megaupload one in a mo'. I'm gonna take my very first bubble bath now!

I didn't end up getting FF's new CD. Maybe after I get some Christmas cash.

OK...calling in a request to a Boston radio station for free tix. You request a song, and if they play it, then you get put in a pool to go to Monday's show (w/ free tix, I'd totally take the bus to Boston). What should I request. My mom requested Bad...I'm thinking One Tree Hill. I was going to go for something quasi popular, but she was listening to the radio and they just played Love Resuce Me as a request so...Hmmm.

Well, I can't request the same song as her. So, I think I'm going with OTH if I can get through. I've tried a few times, but I haven't gotten through. I don't know how she gets through to radios for stuff like this w/o a problem. Like for the may concerts when they'd have "caller # __" contests. She'd never win, but she's get through a hell of a lot! She was #1 once. Blast!

Blast! I just went to the station's website and they've already played Bad twice today! And they've already played OTH. I'm going for Gloria if I can get through, but now it's all busy. Ugh! Poor mom, she's never going to get to see U2. Patronus is my hero!!!

Really? I'm surprised that they already played OTH, and Bad twice! Good luck getting through; I suppose Gloria is a good choice.

Watching these videos makes me glad that I was in the front row (outside the ellipse) when I did GA. There are so many hands and arms in the air that keep swaying in front of the guy's camera! That would piss me off.

Got through and requested Gloria. It was rather amusing, actually. She asked for my name and I gave it to her, and she goes "are you related to (my mom)?" And I was like..."Yeah." "She just called. There aren't too many (our last name)s out there!" Then she said that she'd try to get that on for me soon. The thing is though...I've got an interview at MTV at 3, which would me if I won (and I bet I'd totally win, because it'd be a royal pain in the ass for me to get there) I'd have to take the 4pm bus, which would get me in at 8, assuming I didn't get traffic...and leaving at 4? Yeah, that's not going to happen! I bet you...something big and expensive that I win this, because I wouldn't be able to get there in time! *headdesk*

You got through! yay! So did they play it? If you ended up winning, you'd definitely be there in time for U2's set, right? Are the tickets actual seats or GA? Because if they're seats, that would work out.

mabel Profile Photo

Posted: 12/4/05 at 12:38pm

I did get through, but I don't think they played Gloria...though my when my mom called me to tell me about the contest from the car (around 11:45 last night) they were playing Love Rescue Me, and they never had that listed on their play list on WBOS's site. So, who knows.

It'd definitely be a tight race up there if I won w/ my interview at 3:00. And that's midtown, so even getting back in time for the 4:00 bus would be cutting it close. And it usually takes 4 hours to get to Boston, moving at a pretty steady clip. Leaving at 4 would put me in commuter traffic through New Haven and Hartford (and possibly even leaving Manhattan). Whatever, if they don't even play either of our songs we won't even be put in the running, so I don't think it's really worth getting overly concerned about...though it would be my luck to have the only contest I ever win be something that I wouldn't be able to get to. That would totally be in the realm of possibility! Oh, and I'm pretty sure they're seats. They aren't announcing the winner until noon on Monday, so that'd be pretty SH*Tty of them to give someone GA and not give them a fair shot to get a decent spot. Not that it would matter. If I were bringing my mom w/ GA, I'd probably just opt to hang out by the soundboard. I've read the view from there is pretty decent, and you get to avoid all the pushing and shoving.

Oh well...if nothing else, the Boston Herald has reported that U2 will be playing Gillette Stadium this summer. If that pans out, I can at least (hopefully!) bring my mom to a stadium show. Though I have my doubts about being able to see anything at all at a stadium show, unless you shell out $180 for decent seats (which just isn't going to happen). And I thought my last row across the arena at the Fleet (er, Banknorth Garden) was way out there!!!...Oh, and apparently Fenway is officially off. Dave Matthews Band has booked it as the token concert of the year for next summer. Booo! Even though they're the enemy, seeing a show at Yankee Stadium would be fun too. I think a baseball stadium would be much better than a football stadium for some reason.

Anyway, back to work (and I should do some grocery shopping as I've literally got NOTHING in the apt). I didn't get any sleep last night because my two best friends spend the night again (3rd night this week...ugh!) and they were already asleep by the time I went in after SNL. Unless I fall asleep before him, there's no way I get more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep because of his damn snoring! I didn't fall asleep until almost 4, and I had my alarm set for 8:30 to get up and do some work for my finals. And since I didn't really get much sleep last night, I've been nodding off while reading. Fabulous! I can tell I'll be getting a lot accomplished today. Patronus is my hero!!!

What other stadiums are they playing? I should check. I think it might be fun to see a stadium show; the energy should be amazing with that many people.

I'm spending the day baking Christmas cookies! I'm definitely getting in the holiday spirit now!

As far as I can tell, there's no official word yet on a stadium leg in the summer, but I've read stuff about Gillette Stadium in a couple of different places. I don't think (assuming they do some stadium dates) it would be a full fledged trek around the country, more just big cities (Chicago, Boston, NY, etc). We'll see.

What kind of Christmas cookies are you baking? Just the mention of them makes me hungry...good thing I've still got a bunch of that Cadbury bar...AND THE TIM TAMS!! I forgot about them! Ooooh!!!

I'm definitely not in the Christmas spirit though. I get awfully sick of over-done Chirstmas music. You know how I said I had my Groundhog Day music guy on the street playing Let's Hang on to What We've Got every day? Well, Friday they were playing bad Christmas music. I mean bad Christmas music: All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth-BAD! So now I can pretty much assume that I'll be hearing that every single day for the rest of the semester now. Patronus is my hero!!!

ETA: WOOHOO!!! My mom's now officially in the running for the tickets to tomorrow's show. She called again and requested City of Blinding Lights, and they chat w/ her on the phone for a bit. She was saying she requested that pour moi, because I'm in Manhattan (blah, blah, blah). And she said something about how I'd have to catch the bus tomorrow for the concert. So she and the DJ were chatting about the Fung Wah bus and the DJ chick was like, "ah, I know the Fung Wah; it is near and dear to my heart" or something. So yeah, they played their whole convo on the radio, and now we're officially in contention. I'm not going to bother calling in again, because it'd just be a royal pain in the ass if I won. I'd say there've probably been about 50 or so people that have gotten their requests aired. It's still very slim odds, but I'd tend to think that's got to be "easier" than the "caller # 12" sort of deal when you've got hundreds of people calling in. We shall see! *fingers crossed*

Ooh, good luck! That's great that they played CoBL for your mom! I'll cross my fingers for you in the drawing!

I know what you mean about the endless bad Christmas music. I was at the mall yesterday for about 3 hours and they played Christmas music the whole time; it drove me crazy!

I made fudge and peanut blossoms (peanut butter cookies w/ hersheys kisses stuck on them). And I ate way too much during and after baking. I'm going down to Richmond this week to be in my team's holiday synchro show, and I know I'm going to sink when I get in the water. Ugh.

I'm not a Yankees fan either, but I'd go see U2 if they played at Yankee stadium this summer.

Hola! Thanks for the 11/21 link. I saw a couple of clips before my Net pooped - not bad for an amateur, eh? (And ellipse! Wow!)

I read about Gillette - dude. I'm so there. (But not if the seat costs as much as my plane ticket!)

I'm never in the Christmas spirit. I don't think I've ever had a BAD Christmas, per se, but my parents don't make a very big deal out of it - we don't exchange presents, have a tree or anything, so I think it's just being immersed in a commercialized Christmas-saturated environment that makes me pissy and resentful towards all those people who DO have something to anticipate.

GOOD LUCK TODAY, NIC!! EEEEEE!!! Even though you might miss the opener (who IS the opener now?), it's SO WORTH IT! Fung Wah! Yay! And with your continuing ticket luck, you may really have a shot at it!

Good luck, too, Claire! I would HATE to be a gym sub - it's my worst subject and it would totally be embarrassing to be schooled in the art of jump rope and dodge ball by a bunch of 8-year-olds. So make sure you go on the offensive right away! Patronus is my hero!!!

Anyway, I don't know how much I'll be online tomorrow, so once more - good luck, Nic!!

Hey Tiff!!! WTF are you doing on-line at 5:30am?!?

1st: I just looked at last night's setlist in Boston...WHOAH!!! TOTALLY WISH I WAS THERE!!! (Though, chances are, I would have missed it...they came out and did a THIRD encore, after a bunch of people had already left, thinking the show was over after Bad/40!!!)

Main Set: City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Elevation, I Will Follow, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - In a Little While, Beautiful Day, Original of the Species, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, Love and Peace or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday - Rock the Casbah, Bullet the Blue Sky, Miss Sarajevo, Pride, Where the Streets Have No Name, One

Encore(s): Until the End of the World, Mysterious Ways, With or Without You, Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of, Yahweh, Bad - 40, All Because of You, Fast Cars

Comments: Bono sings bits of 'Sgt. Pepper's' and 'Here Comes the Sun' during Beautiful Day, changing the lyrics ('there goes the sun') to reflect the cold, snowy weather outside. Bono thanks Ashley Judd, who's at the show, for her work with the ONE Campaign. During One, Bono brings about a dozen fans on stage with different national flags tied together and they stand behind Larry holding the flags up as a backdrop. U2 comes out for an unplanned 3rd encore, playing All Because of You and Fast Cars to a shocked crowd made up of fans that haven't already left. Many fans, including some getting in the GA line for tomorrow's show, miss the end of the show.

2: Thanks for the wishes of good luck, and thanks for the link to OOTS. I'll have to check it out sometime today.

3: I'm so not a Christmas person anymore. Not to be a total downer, but it's never been the same for me since Christmas-'98. My grandmother (my only grandparent, both my grandfathers died before I was born, and my grandfather on my dad's side died when I was like 3 or 4, so I don't really remember her) hadn't been doing very well (issues with high blood pressure and bad doctors that over-medicated her, so she was all screwed up). Anyway, she was in the hospital (which is bad enough on Christmas) and we show up that morning only to find out that her docter had come in earlier and told her that she had cancer. Who the F*CK does that on CHRISTMAS?!?!? She couldn't have waited until the next day? And she just told my grandmother while she was alone there in the hospital waiting for us to come visit her. So anyway, we spent pretty much the whole day there. We brought her some gifts and stuff and opened them, and ended up missing Christmas dinner at the hospital, and no place else was open...so my mom and I (when we left for a few hours late that afternoon) had hotdogs from the gas station as our Christmas dinner. After that scrumptious meal, we went to see Stepmom, and I bawled like I have never bawled before. I don't think we knew about Sarandon's character having cancer going into it, but man...tears, upon tears, upon tears.

Anyway, sorry for the sob story. That was like 7 years ago, so it's not a huge, huge deal, but we kind of just stopped doing Christmas after that. We used to go all out with the tree, and decorating the mantle, and putting up all those little lighty houses, etc. The year after my grandmother passed away, we nixed the the little light-up houses, then the mantle the next year, then the Christmas tree...For a few years, we'd break out the Christmas lights and decorate a couple of lamps in the living room. Patronus is my hero!!! They looked rather cute, I must say. Last year, I didn't feel like digging into the spare room to find the actual Christmas lights, so I took a string of chili pepper lights from my room and strung up a lamp with those (hey, they're red and green!) It's just kind of meh now.

Aaaaanywaaay...go Mom this afternoon! Though I have a feeling it'd be hard to top last night's show...coming back for a two song 3rd encore with FAST CARS!!! Whoooo!!

ETA: We didn't win...shock! Some guy that requested Lemon won, and he was...less than thrilled. He was seriously the most deadpan guy I've ever heard. Even the DJ was like "wow, Matt was rather...calm" after she hung up. Their convo was pretty much: "So, what are you doing tonight?" "Nothin" "How'd you like to hear some live music?" "Ok." "Well, you just won tickets to see U2's final show in Boston tonight at the Garden!!!" "Oh, ok."...I'm not exaggerating in bitterness, I SWEAR! This guy was: ZZzzzzzz. I'd like to think he was just busy at work and he really couldn't jump up and down and get all hyped up. I mean, he did request Lemon! He's got to be a fan if he knows stuff off Zooropa! Anyway, that's all. I guess I don't have to lie to MTV now.

Well, I suppose there's always the outside shot of them doing a stadium leg this summer...I guess Australia and NZ sold out in 15 minutes, btw!!! Crazy!

Aw, that sucks that some unenthusiastic guy won. That shouldn't be allowed. They should have taken back the offer when he showed no excitement and given the tickets to true fans who really wanted to go (like you and your mom)!

*hugs nic* I'm so sorry about your grandmother, that's such a sad story and I completely understand why Christmas isn't the same anymore.

My family goes all-out crazy for Christmas. We won't actually be home this year (we'll be in Oklahoma), but every inch of our house is already decorated anyway. It's sort of insane. My mom's the only one who really cares, so she does it all and we let her.

That U2 guy was actually kind of funny, because he was just so blase' about it. "Sure. Sounds good." Patronus is my hero!!! You know it's bad when even the DJ was made note of his lack of enthusiasm. As long as he doesn't bounce around like that epileptic ostrich, then all is well! At least the chick that called in yesterday that had seen 20 shows, and was going last night didn't win. I know, I'm one to talk (Miss Five Shows this tour), but that's not the point. Patronus is my hero!!!

Thanks for the *hugs* It's really not a huge deal anymore, but the holidays really aren't the same anymore. After my grandmother died, we kind of adopted some of the other elderly people in the neighborhood and baked cookies for them, and we'd bring Hamlet around to visit them with his little red sweater on, but 2 of the 3 (well, 3 of the 4, if you count Hamlet Patronus is my hero!!! ) died over the last year, so I don't really know what we're going to do this year. It'll definitely be very low key though, I'm sure (especially if I'm not even going to be getting home until 12/22, which is what it's looking like now!)

Just got back from the MTV interview. I bet you all $100 I get it, because it sound TERRIBLE! I know beggars can't be choosers, but seriously: MTV2, working on reality TV designed for a teen male audience. Blech! Can't they send me down to VH1? Surely ANYTHING there would be more appealing. Please, PLEASE let Plum or Queer Eye work out. I do not want to working for MTV2's "Bitches and Hoes Gone Wild!"

Aw, the MTV job might not be so bad! Would that get you possible perks like access to concert tickets and stuff?

I'm in the process of downloading a U2 dvd from 11/21! It seems like it's good quality (based on the description). It's gonna take forever to download, though; I'm not even sure there's enough space on my computer for it! I don't have a dvd burner, but I can burn it onto cds for y'all (you can play it on a computer with a bunch of different media players). That is if it ever finishes downloading (right now it says it has 150 days left. No joke).

Hmmm...150 days??? That'd be what, April sometime?? Hahah! Geez, by then I might have actually bought a DVD burner and I could trade something for it. Seriouly, if by tomorrow it says 149 days, I'd abandon ship.

And I don't think interns get any perks like tix. Frankly, I'd settle for travel reimbursement at this stage of the game.

I'm listening to the audio stream of tonight's concert in Boston. They're playing Crumbs now. Patronus is my hero!!! That and New Year's Day are my two biggies that I'm sad that I missed out on. They haven't played Crumbs for a while now. I thought it was gone for good.
