Send me the link, Claire. I'll see if I can't download it and put it onto DVD for everyone.
Updated On: 12/6/05 at 10:41 AM
Now it's down to 6 days! yippee!
I've already downloaded 1.23GB (that's huge!) and it's only 28% complete! eek!
Six days is still crazy, but at least it's single digits!
I think I've officially hit a wall in the motivation dept. I see the little light at the end of the tunnel, but boy, is it a bitch getting there. I've kvetched about work before, but this semester royally blows. Just a couple minutes (Ugh! "Let's hang on to what we've got/ Don't let it go girl we've got a lot of love BETWEEEEEEEN US!") Anyway, yeah...I have no idea where I was going with "just a couple of minutes?" Not a clue.
I've got one blow off paper, a short-ish but dense paper for film, a couple of revisions (one of which was so totally off the mark, I'll have to just start from scratch) a website, a long feature for journalism, and 3 exams. Blech! Oh, and a review to write for Theater Talk for the show I saw Sunday, and another show to see Friday...And I should probably still be trolling around looking for internships. And I haven't been able to sleep lately. Now, after Crazy barged in with Her Oaf 3 days last week, I've found myself jumping up, wide awake, everytime the door in the hall to the stairwell opens. They're really screwed me up!
Anyway, I guess I should run. I have to make a pit stop at the ATM before going to return a book at the library, as it is overdue, and I have all of one dollar and three cents in my wallet.
Nic, have you read about Alanis appearing in Cheno's upcoming concert?
From Playbill article: "Pop star Alanis Morissette will join Chenoweth for a duet, which will conclude the evening."
They seem like an unlikely duo to me! Some people on the main board are saying that Alanis is campaigning to be Elphaba in Wicked. That would be interesting!
Playbill article on Cheno's concert
I saw the heading on BWW for that yesterday, but I didn't read the article. IMHO, Alanis would be FIERCE as Elphaba. Once with the OBC was kind of enough for me on the Wicked front, but Alanis would totally bring me back!
Was the 11/21 DVD you were downloading the whole show, Claire? And was it from the same taper that had clips up on interference? That's so great that someone taped the show! I'm still wondering what was up w/ all those cameras though (the guy on stage and reports of several other cameras in seats...and the WOWY girl had to sign a release). Somehow I doubt they'd release THREE DVDs for one tour though!
Yep, the dvd is the whole show (on 2 dvds)! I don't know if it's from the same guy with the clips. Here's the description:
Single Camera: Panasonic 3ccd, head to toe closeups, super stable, shot on tripod. Very clear. Sound: Camera AC-3. Great sound. Some (about 4) very, very, very minor glitches (hardly noticable).
Although it would be AMAZING if they released an official dvd of 11/21, I doubt they will. But we can hope!
How's your work coming along? It seems about the right time for senioritis to be striking!
Oh honey, senioritis struck when I got ready for Tiff to visit, and it hasn't left me since! It was weird...the same thing happened around the same time last year in October w/ the baseball playoffs, where I got sidetracked for a couple of weeks. I pretty much bounced back last year, but I've been dragging myself through all semester this year.
We had some little workshop thing today for the first few pages of our film final paper, and the girl I got paired up with was like..."hmmm...so, you're writing about Vertigo?...that's...interesting." Thanks for the help. And what is this, third grade where the prof pairs people off? I would have gotten a lot more help/feedback if I just could have paired off with a friend.
Anyway, tomorrow is entirely devoted to rewriting my paper on that wretched Ruth book. Ugh! The initial draft of it was due on 11/22 at 10am, so I just kind of rambled through it that Sunday before the concert, and I think it'd just be easier for me to start from scratch than try to salvage what I had. God, I hate that book...."and then, she wept uncontrollably."
I'm off to read some of my film text before The Office. It wasn't on last week, so I'm giddy about tonight (really, it's pretty sad!).
Oh my God, I went tanning today, fell asleep, didn't flip over, and now my back and ass is red like a lobster, with two thin and unsightly white parallel lines running down it. When I sit, it's like my ass is on fire. Oh my God. I'm almost gasping in pain.
Anyway, today was my last day of work at the Hellhole That Must Not Be Named, and trust me, it was a satisfying ending. Coworkers are talking me out for dinner and the casino tonight, so Nic, if I don't talk to you later, good luck on your MTV interview! I should be back on later tonight or tomorrow, but still.
Ow. Ow. Owww...
Congrats on your last day of work, Tiff! And sorry about your botched tan.
I'm off to Richmond!
Oh, have a safe trip, Claire! Do good at synchro!!!
Tiff, sorry about your tan/burn! I hope it fades some by the time you get on your cruise. If you pop on-line tonight, let us know how your interview went today in Victoria.
My MTV interview was Tuesday, and I think it went fine, though the department is of very little interest to me (reality TV for teen guys).
Talk to you guys later. I've got to take a shower and then delve into that damn Ruth paper! Boooo!
I'm all screwed up with the days! I thought your MTV interview was today (Wednesday), and my interview is tomorrow (Thursday), and then when you texted me, it screwed me up even more! Anyway, my interview isn't until tomorrow. Did you post about your MTV interview? Looks like I ought to actually read the novellas on here! *shifty eyes*
Went to the casino last night - lost $120. Like, I don't do this gambling thing well, which is why I rarely ever go, but I've never lost that much money before! (I hate to lose, so I normally quit after, like, $5.) It's not comparatively a large amount, but SH*T! I skipped picking up an outfit for $40 for the cruise because it was "too expensive" and then blew 3x that in 2 hours! Jesus H. Christ. I'm still trembling over it.
Anyway, heading out now. Dunno if I'll be back on before my interview so wish me luck! (Again.)
You did originally say it was supposed to be Thrusday though, right? Or am I totally losing it?! Anyway, good luck tomorrow!
And sorry to hear about losing all that cash! I don't think I could ever get into too much trouble gambling, because I'm such a tight-wad, I'd be in your regular "quit after, like, $5" camp. Did you at least have a good time with the people from work that brought you out to the casino? Are you doing a little dance of joy, now that you've officially done with The Store that Shall Not be Named?
Oh, and I was just looking at some pix on interference of the 12/5 show in Boston, and the guy that they pulled up dressed as Santa, was none other than Crazy Furry Hat guy from MSG!!!
ETA: You have to scroll up on the link...I don't know why it connects you to the bottom of the post w/ my response???
Between the hat and the Santa suit, why hasn't this guy melted yet??
WTF was I talking about on Wednesday re: your interview!?!?! Yikes!
Anyway, I was just popping online between chapters and saw you had recently posted something...if you're still online, how'd your interview go??
Has you tanning bed burn faded, and are you set for your trip! Have fun!
Fourth page? Tsk, tsk.
So had the interview yesterday. I studied my ass off, learned about every single facet of the government, memorized all the ministers and read the newspapers for the last 10 days to prep for my current events. And what did they ask me? Absolutely nothing to do with any of those! Still, I left thinking I made a pretty good impression with them - two women - one in her 40s and one in her 30s - but they made me fill out a questionnaire before the interview and I don't know if I answered in a good way...
They asked me to name 4 politicians (past or current) who I consider role models. Oy. Scraping the bottom of the barrel! So I chose Adrienne Clarkson (the former governor-general of Canada - she's a figurehead who represents the queen), Linda Reid (the politician who got me this interview to begin with!), Gordon Campbell (the current premier of BC - the equivalent of a state's governor - except Gordie's sort of been criticized like hell in the press, esp. since he was caught DUI last Christmas) and...Bill Clinton. What can I say, I like the guy! Sex addict or not, he was a good president! Except during the interview, the older woman actually raised an eyebrow and went, "Bill Clinton...why?" Why not??
And they asked me to list the last 3 books I read - and somehow I thought "Harry Potter 3, Harry Potter 4, Harry Potter 5" wouldn't look so good. So I was all, "Angels & Demons", "1984" and "Invisible Darkness" (about Canada's post notorious woman rapist/murderer). And afterwards, I was thinking, "Is 1984 really the best book to list when I'm trying to work for the government that used to put cameras on the streets?"
But they were pleasant enough and laughed with me over what a nightmare the first interview was - AND they're both Libras who like Starbucks and travelling, so it made idle chitchat good.
The only thing I think would harm me at this point is the fact that I'm competing against 5 other people for these 3 positions (and a couple of those positions don't appeal to me - I want to be a legislative assistant, but the other choices are receptionist and assistant legislative assistant <--I'm more likely to get that, I think) and I'm relatively younger and less politically-experienced than their other applicants. Oh well, we shall see!
I leave for the Caribbean today!
Glad to hear the interview went reasonably well, Tiff! I hope something comes of it for you (and hopefully not the receptionist postition).
I'm having issues with MS Word at the moment, so I've got to dash. It's not opening, and that's mildly alarming considering I have several papers to write and/or revise this weekend!
Have a fun and safe trip! When are you leaving?
Why isn't MS-Word working? Is it opening now? Would it help if I send you the program online?
I leave for the airport at 9:15pm today and I haven't started packing yet, so I'm thinking now's as good a time as ever! Ay.
Word eventually ended up opening, but it took a while, and I had to close out all the other windows I had open on my computer. Strange.
I sent out a butt-load on internship applications today (seriously, like a dozen or so). I've already gotten 3 replies, so next week should be busy. None of them are of particular interest to me, but what can you do? Maybe Queer Eye will call back on Monday and none of that will matter. A girl can dream, right?!
I went out with a friend and got my parents' Christmas gifts this afternoon. Nothing special, but I didn't have time to be particularly innovative in my gifting this year.
I went up to Strawberry Fields last night for the John Lennon memorial. It was crazy busy, so I just waited in line and went through. I didn't bother staying for the candle-light vigil. It was sad that it was so impersonal (sending people through the maze of barricades) but I suppose they really didn't have any choice when they have to support thousands upon thousands of people.
I don't know if you saw, but U2 got nominated for 5 Grammys. Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, Song of the Year (for SYCMIOYO), another nomination for SYCMIOYO, and Rock Song for COBL. I don't think they'll really win any, but it's cool that they at least got recognized (especially for Album of the Year) since the Bomb came out just after last year's deadline. I would think that Kanye West would probably be their strongest compitition, since he lost out last year with Ray Charles-mania, but he's already shooting his mouth off about being the only one to deserve the award. I saw some interview thing with him last night on MTV saying that he's the hardest working artist out there and that he'll be livid if he doesn't win Album of the Year. It's one thing to be confident, but he seems to be way over the line. I don't think that'll be helping his odds any!
Gah! I'm so confused! Are you in NH now, or NY? I thought you were in NH! I would've loved to be at Strawberry Fields yesterday - I saw the coverage of it with that sleazy sex addict, Pat O'Brien.
*eyebrows shoot up* Re: Kanye. I knew his arrogance was notorious, but that's way over the line! I listened to that "Golddigger" song or whatever last night and wondered what the hell all the hype was about! While I don't think Bomb was the best album of the year (I have a soft spot for Funeral...or was that last year?) I hope the boys win just to irk him some.
What did you get the parents for Christmas? Where did you apply to?
Be back in a few hours. Gotta rush around getting some last minute stuff done!
I don't head back home until next weekend. I've got finals this week. I was supposed to have a final on the 22nd, but the prof's putting it up on-line, so I get to leave Sunday now! Woohoo! I've got a paper due Monday, another paper and 2 exams on Tuesday, then a couple of compiled project-type things that are due by Monday the 19th, but I'm just going to drop them off the the profs' mailboxes on Sunday.
I got my mom season one of The Office, and I got my dad (who never wants anything) one of those Sodoku puzzle books. He's really weird/brilliant with numeric stuff, so he'd probably whiz through it. His math genes definitely didn't get passed down to me. I really don't know how he does it...and he'll do weird things like come up with all these patterns with license plates and stuff! My mom and I were in the car with him once and he said something about it, and was like "What, you don't do that?"...Ummmm...no! Crazy!
I've got to give my vote for Album of the Year to U2. Even though it's not brilliant or anything, I'd give it to them (biased or not). I don't like Kanye West or Mariah Carey (I'm SO sick of her!...sure she's got a set of pipes, but she's such a mess). I didn't like McCartney's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, and (you'll probably hate me for this) but I don't think Gwen's album is necessarily "Album of the Year material," whatever that might mean. I was quite shocked that Springsteen's Devils and Dust wasn't nominated. I'd go for Funeral too, though it wasn't nominated (it did get a nomination for Best Alternative Album though). I couldn't believe they weren't even nominated for Best New Artist! Just as well though. The winners usually end up fizzling out after winning that.
3 things due on Tuesday?? Wow, that really IS your crappy day, isn't it? So when do you leave the big city for NH?
Okay, I totally don't get the Sodoku thing but it seems like everyone's KER-AZY about it! WTF is it? It's like, numbers in a box...okay?
It's okay, I would agree that Gwen's new CD isn't really "Grammy material". It's got some catchy fast songs but there's really only, like, 5 songs on there that get me going. If those are really the only options, then I would have to go to U2 as well - I like about 80% of the songs on HTDAAB (which is more than I can say about most other albums). I liked Mariah in the Fantasy days but now there's just too much of her and the material just isn't good anymore! ("We Belong Together" is grossly overrated.)
Another hour and a bit till I leave for the airport!
I think I'm leaving next Sunday, the 18th.
Tuesday is going to suck. I have so much stuff to read for my film class. I didn't really read anything throughout the semester, and now I'm trying to get as caught up as I can. I'm getting there, but I didn't really do a whole hell of a lot today, since I went out shopping and had to go to a show for Theater Talk (a bizzare "puppet" show...they were more like creepy masks than puppets, but whatever).
Yeah, the album of the year nominations were pretty blech. There were some weird nominations all around. I'd say the strangest was Maroon 5's "This Love" (is that what it's called) was nominated for something. How can that be? I looked it up on Amazon, and Songs About Jane was released in June 2002!!! I was still in high school in June 2002! By the time the Grammys roll around, I'll be in last semester of my senior year in college!!! WHAT?!?!?! Can you explain that to me? The Grammys are really screwed up!
Woman. Sparknotes.com, I'm tellin' ya! How are you liking Theatre Talk? Is this your second show for them? Do you have to do write-ups or what?
I'm so confused about the Maroon 5 thing. I didn't realize Songs About Jane was released in 2002! I saw their concert in July of 2004, and they were STILL just playing Jane music, so either the Grammys are screwed up or they really need to get some new material out! When's the Grammy cut-off? Maroon 5 released an acoustic album in June 2004...could that be what got nominated?
Hmmm...I suppose it could've been an acoustic version. I don't even remember what the category was. I just saw it and did a double take.
Somehow, I don't think my Art of Film textbook: The Film Experience is going to be on sparknotes. And it's not particularly challenging stuff...just a SH*Tload of it, since I put it off all semester.
Tonight was my 3rd show for Theater Talk. I've still got to write a review for the show I saw Sunday. They'd totally fire me if they weren't paying me! What can I say, it's finals time and I'm swamped and unmotivated. So sue me!
You're going to be off soon, aren't you? Have a safe trip, and have tons o' fun!!!
I'm back! Just as you're leaving, Tiff! Have a GREAT trip! And it sounds like your interview went well, so that's good!
Mabs, good luck on all your end-of-the-semester work. Just keep reminding yourself that you get to go home in a week!
And congrats to U2! I think they deserve album of the year.
How'd synchro go?? I take it you didn't sink to the bottom of the pool.
Finals stuff is going okay, I guess. I polished off my film readings today, and I'm working on my Brit Lit paper now. Zzzzz. I can't wait until I'm done. I'm ready to veg (more than I already have been, that is)!
