haha. I live in a dorm, and luckily my parents are still paying room/board while I'm at school. I'm ashamed to say that I don't even know how much rent is (they lump everything together in the total cost). Basically everyone lives on-campus at my school. And nope, I'm not teaching anymore because I'm back at school and hardly have time to be a student! That was just to make money during break. I'm a writing tutor here, though.

Oh, it's a dorm! Private bathroom? At least you're sans Crazy Roommate!

I didn't know you could do subbing over the summer and not keep with it full time. Are the teachers all unionized?

Same hotel as before. Hotel QT. I think he will become "our hotel" in NYC.

Shows, I am not 100% sure yet. Sweeney Todd for sure. Beyond that it will be some combination of Color Purple, Jersey Boys, The Pajama Game and Dog Sees God.

Anjilly is coming of course. We don't do much of anything apart.

The main goal was to take a long weekend trip to hang out with sp78 and yodamarie78 again - so we are playing it by ear.

Are you excited, Pat? That'll be a great way to spend your birthday! I know you're seeing Sweeney, which you'll love. What else is on the agenda?

Nope, I don't have a private bathroom. But sharing isn't so bad.
And I wasn't subbing over the summer (there's no school in summer), I was doing it over winter break. You don't have to be in a union to sub; it's a great job because you can do it whenever you want and there are usually lots of jobs available.

That sounds lovely! You must be thrilled. You seemed to have planned the November trip like the be-all and end-all - I bet you didn't expect to go back so soon, did you? (Domestic airfare is so cheap though, I'd travel all the time if I lived in the States!)

I'd see Color Purple just to see if they're as good as they were on Oprah. Torn about the other 3.

What activities do you have planned? And why isn't sp78 and yodamarie coming out to OUR coast soon??

Isn't it surprising?!? But I agree with who you voted for (whom? who?). But this person is one of many! I think it'll be even tougher tomorrow.

Next week's theme is going to be a masochistic gas and a half! I can't wait until we eventually do a Brit Rock week - U2 and Beatles baby!

Nothing much new here. I've got a roommate (not the one I was supposed to get though...curious). She seems nice. We shall see. We're debating what to do with the room. She wanted to split up the bed so we'd have seperate rooms, but I'm not sure if that'd fly. IF I were to agree, I'd want the living room, and I don't know how keen she'd be on relinquishing the couch/living room, etc. I guess we'll play it by ear.

I saw Match Point and hopped to Pride and Prejudice today. Have you seen either. I like both. I guess I found the last act of Match Point to be a little...out there. I don't know. I liked it though (especially considering the junk Woody Allen has been churning out lately). I must say that I wasn't particularly impressed with Scarlett Johansson. I usually really like her, but I felt like I could really "see" her acting. Though, maybe that was a conscious choice on her part, since she was supposed to be playing a struggling actress and JRM said at one point in convo that he could see through her/she was a lousy actress or something. Maybe she was supposed to be kind of void of a real personality and she was just acting (badly) as part of her character?? Dunno.

Pride and Prejudice was cute. I'm lame and have never read the book (bad, bad English major), so I suppose I can't really comment on how faithful and adaptation it was. I thought Keira Knightly did a great job. She was natural and charming. I wouldn't be put out if she pulled off nabbing the 5th Best Actress slot.

Anyway, guess that's about it for now. Anything new with you?...Sorry I didn't vote last night. Who won?? Or is that not decided yet. Please don't make me scrounge through the BWW Idol thread. Ok, it's probably in the first post, but I'm sick and lazy.

ETA: OK, I looked it up. Y'all are very good about keeping it convenient with the updates.

Plan on seeing Match Point in the next few weeks. I'm not a Woody Allen fan (well, I like his old stuff but not the newer crap) - I like Scarlett Johanssen, so that's the selling point. I meant to see P&P when it first came out and got sidetracked - I think Keira has an effortless charm that comes through on screen, but I'd be skeptical of any Mr. Darcy who's not Colin Firth. I haven't read the books either.

Nothing new with me. I sort of wanted to resist PAing for as long as possible, but I paid my credit card bills and I suddenly wound up with, like, $50 in my account, no foreseeable income for at least the next month, a $50 parking ticket and $150 for my additional law school app fees. I'm SO F*CKED.

Speaking of your PAing...They had some little feature on RV before P&P ("RV: First Look," or something along those lines). Oh my! That looks like it'll be a real gem. A questionnaire! JoJo does the fam proud!

I was just looking at the schedule for movies that come out on Friday. Looks like the line up'll be Transamerica, Syriana, and possibly WtL again (I'm game to see it again, and my movie-hopping buddy hasn't seen it yet and wants to). Apparently the movie gods just don't want me to see Brokeback Mountain. I toyed around with a few different combinations, but I couldn't get anything to work with it (getting in 2 movies that are on my short-list of Oscar bait that I haven't seen...of course Match Point would've fit!). To top it off, Honors is doing a free movie to BBM Friday afternoon, but now I have QE, so I can't take advantage of that. Ugh!

Oh, and re: Syriana...I was reading one of the BBM posts that had something about someone questioning which was more disturbing the general romantic content of BBM or the torture scene in Syriana where nails are ripped off. *vomits* I knew there was a Cloony torture scene, but I NO idea it involved rippage of nails. I don't know if you know this, but I have a HUGE nail phobia. I don't know if I can handle Syriana. My eyes will be closed and my ears will be plugged for that entire scene. I kid you not. I think I would totally lose it!!! *shudder*

ETA: What'd you decide on PAing?? Are you going to go back sooner than you would've liked or are you going to look for something else to pay the bills? Are your parents going to disown you if you don't go out and get a "real job"?? You can always come to NYC and work illegally! *bats eyes*

Coming to NY to work illegally is looking mighty appealing for now! I suppose I shouldn't have shot down Danny Wise so quickly, huh? A questionnaire!

Yeah, I read about the nails thing in Syriana. I think we've discussed the nail phobia before, remember when we were walking to Pigalle, and I told you about that scene in Stir of Echos when they're dragging that girl away and she's clawing at the floor, and you see her nail snap off? I HATE that. It stirs up something hypochondriac-ish in me.

Ahhh, yes! My deep-seeded fear of losing a nail (from my field hockey days...so glad I didn't lose a toe nail)! Have you ever seen that commercial for the toe fungus medicine with Digger the nail fungus who lifts up a cartoon toe nail like it's a car hood? It makes me want to retch. Blech.

Do you actually think you'd seriously consider moving to NYC, or is it totally just a pipe dream? T'would be fun though, wouldn't it?

I'm the same way about teeth - I can't even watch someone's teeth being pulled. I suppose because I'm a tooth grinder, esp. when I'm stressed and asleep, so there's this huge fear of having my teeth just snap at the gums from the pressure. And thank god, no I haven't seen that commercial.

I would seriously consider moving to NYC if I could find a place that would pay under the table, and if I had at least 2 months of rent/bills saved up to find my footing.

Tiff, that would be cool if you came to NYC. A questionnaire!

I haven't seen Syriana, and I think the nail thing would freak me out, too. My brother thought it was gross and he's usually cool about that stuff, so I'm staying away.

I saw P&P awhile ago and I loved it; I thought Kiera Knightley was fantastic. I want to see Match Point, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to it. I still haven't seen Transamerica, Capote, and The Squid and the Whale, which are all near the top of my list. Ugh, if only I didn't have to be so bogged down with school.

ETA: I've listened to all the BWW Idol clips, and for the most part I'm impressed. I loooved WesternSky2's song this round.
Tiff, you are such a teacher. A questionnaire! You give such positive and constructive feedback on the thread, even though I bet you're trying your hardest not to lash out with some witty putdown of some of those performances. Updated On: 1/24/06 at 11:42 PM

Blast! I totally spaced BWW Idol last night. I'll have to listen to them later today. They're still up to listen to (and the votes were the second round were last night, right?). Get on the ball, mabel!

Yeah, I don't think Syriana would necessarily be at the top of my to-see list ordinarily, but I'm trying to see as many of EW's 25 must see films before the Oscars. Here's how I'm doing so far (the bold are the ones I've seen).

1. Brokeback Mountain
2. Good Night and Good Luck
3. Crash
4. Capote
5. Munich
6. Walk the Line
7. Cinderella Man
8. Syriana
9. A History of Violence
10. The Constant Gardener
11. Transamerica
12. North Country
13. Memoirs of a Geisha
14. Pride and Prejudice
15. Match Point
16. Mrs. Henderson Presents
17. King Kong
18. Hustle and Flow
19. The Squid and the Whale
20. Junebug
21. The Upside of Anger
22. The 40 Year-Old Virgin
23. Cache
24. Shopgirl
25. The Chronicles of Narnia

Obviously I'll get around to BBM in the next week or two. Hopefully Saturday I'll knock off Transamerica and Syriana. I have Junebug on DVD and can rent The Upside of Anger. So that only leaves me with a couple. I'm pissed that I missed A History of Violence at our Townhall Theater at home. They released it for a week, but it was right before I left and I had my wisdom teeth out and was packing stuff up, and that really wasn't the type of movie that I felt like seeing. Munich and Mrs. Henderson Presents aren't playing at the theatre that I have passes for, so we'll have to see about those two. Maybe they'll show up in the next couple of weeks.

Anyway, gotta grab a bowl of cereal before class. Later, ladies!
