Oooh, I love those, Elphie!!! The first one looks like it could've been taken in 1845. And I just love that jacket/dress ensemble in the second one! Really! But hey - posting Celine pics is my job!

*scurries off to find some*

Appropriate.

Elphie, I'm so disappointed in you! I was sure that Ellie would be the only one to torture us w/ pix of Celine! You've been converted to the dark side!!! Say it ain't so!

You're evil, Miss Ellie...E.Vil.

Well, my DellPod is surprisingly easy for one as non-techno savvy as moi! Guess what I'll be doing all day!

I'm currently bummed because I couldn't get through on the radio to win tix to the Colplay buzz gig in Boston on Friday. I actually knew the answer today (Elvis Costello and The Attractions). The real pisser was the guy kept saying "Wow, no one seems to know this one. Still no takers yet." I knew it dammit! I just couldn't get through. I'm tempted to swing down to Boston on Friday. I guess they gave out 200 free tix for a similar gig last week in Chicago. We'll see. I'd need to find someone willing to go w/ me (aka drive my sorry ass) since I haven't driven in like a year, and I don't think I want to hop right back in there driving to Boston. Death wish anyone?!?!?

Later, ladies!

Mabel, I might have considered going to Boston to see Coldplay, but I'm seeing Spelling Bee on Friday. I hope you make it up there alive, though! Sorry to disappoint you with the pics of Celine, I don't know what came over me! Ellie's evilness is contagious. And there are some pretty funny Celine pictures out there (although I promise I won't subject you to more of them). I'm glad you like your DellPod!

Oh, Mabel you have to go see Coldplay if you can! First you let Green Day slip by, then lose out on Paul McCartney...you simply must go see Coldplay! Don't you realize that I am living vicariously through you?!?! How could you be so selfish?!?! Damn you, you're going and that's that.

And ooh, a DellPod! What's the difference between those and iPods? Which is better?

Well, I'll certainly try my best to see Coldplay! I'll be up by 8 tomorrow morning to try for the radio contest again (the other contest I entered was a no go...they were supposed to call today. Though I nearly had a heart attack. I got a random call this afternoon from an unregognized #. I picked up the phone w/ my heart beating like crazy and some woman was like "Hi, is Ashley there?" NOOOOO!!!) Still trying to scrounge someone up to bring me. Most of my friends haven't really come home this summer, so my options are limited. If push comes to shove, mum's got the day off work and we could always make a day of it in Boston...have some bonding time. I think I'm steadily converting her over to a U2 fanatic, by the way. She really wants to see them in a couple of weeks now *must find tix!* and she's even asking for copies of some of my bootlegs! Hahaha!

As far as the iPod/DellPod thing (that's what my friend who has one calls it and it stuck!) the only real difference is that Dell's are a lot cheaper for the memory you get. My 30 gig was only like $50 more than an iPod mini (which is only 4, I think). I guess downloading is probably more iPod friendly w/ iTunes, etc, but I'm pretty much just loading in my own CDs, so that's not really a biggie for me. The only thing that sucks thus far, is that I have to type in all the CD info (album, artist, even tracks...as far as I can tell...the software just comes up w/ it all being blank. It's kind of a pain in the ass (and I'll probably find out there's some way to get it to come up w/ the info automatically, but I'm kind of cruising along now, so whatever. Though I did screw up and forgot to name two Wilco and Kinks albums and now they're just labled as "Album" and "Artist," so I guess I'll have to fix that tomorrow.

Oh, back to Colplay! Elphie, they're doing one of those buzz gigs in NYC at the Beacon next Wednesday. I signed up on their site for free tix (they're giving away 300). May be worth swinging by if you've got nothing better to do on Wednesday! I think it's Wednesday, at least...you can check their website. I want to go SO BAD! AHHHH!!!

I'm in NH now, but if free Coldplay tix were in the equation, my ass would be on the first bus to NYC! I was tempted to come down next weekend for the rumored Bryant Park concert too, but since that's not confirmed I'm not going to bother.
Pisser you're going to Spelling Bee Friday and can't come to Boston. It's probably just as well. I have very little hope of actually scoring tix. I'm betting there will either be hundreds upon hundreds of people hanging outside Avalon because they gave the tix out in Chicago or they won't be giving out tix in an effort to deter thousands of people from loitering (I don't know if you can get away w/ a freebie deal like that more than once w/o chaos ensuing, you know what I mean?) We shall see though! I'll keep you posted, but expect a post from me around 8:30 saying I've come back dejected and empty handed. *sigh*

I'll check the new e-mail out, thanks. I'm sure even if I can't get into one of these "buzz gigs" I'll be able to snag some tix for the regular tour (though free and a small venue is hard to argue w/!!!) *fingers crossed for something* Oh, I had the trivia question again this morning (had to look it up on-line, but I got it really fast...still no dice getting through).

Speed of Sound is fab(ish)...I wonder how the rest of the album will be. And yes, there's always the regular tour, Mabel...you're only competing with, like, 8 million other people in the contest! re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

Yeah, New Hampshire.

Well, I sent an e-mail in for the MTV contest. Elphie, if I win, you're my date! I'll just take the bus down and stay w/ a friend in the city or something for a day or two.

I've only listened to Speed of Sound once or twice. I like it, but I think it needs a few more goes before I can make a final decision on it.

Anyway, gotta run. I'm off to Concord for dinner and a screening of Born into Brothels (the film that won the Oscar for Best Documentary this year). They're doing a special screening w/ a photo exhibit from the children that were involved in the film. Should be interesting!

Later, gals!

Just had to bump this up because it was on the 3rd page!

I know I had said I wasn't going to look at setlists anymore, but I couldn't help peeking while I was on u2tours.com looking for tix. Chicago IV looks like it was the show to be at! They had Gloria, Bad, With or Without You, and Until the End of the World! 24 songs! The only one that they dropped was Zoo Station (for UtEotW) and Electric Co/An Cat/ItH for Gloria/The Ocean. Arg! Now I'm thinking if I can find cheapies for Sat, I'd rather do that than Thursday (even though it wouldn't be as convenient for me). Dammit! I'm hooked! It's like some sort of sick addiction! Must get more tix!

Off to try for my last chance at Coldplay tix. Later, ladies!

I like Speed of Sound. Another song from their new cd was on The O.C. tonight, and I loved it. It's called Fix You. I got so excited when it started playing.
How was Born Into Brothels, mabel?

GAH!!!
Mabel, I GOT FREE TICKETS!!!
Monday at 6:30 AND Wednesday at 9:30. 2 tickets. I hope you can come! For Monday he gave me 2 time options and I had to choose on the spot (I couldn't do both, I asked) and I just picked the earlier one. He said there will only be 30 people there. Pretty intimate! I'll PM you with details. re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

Well Claire, you just BEYOND made my day, week, month, year!!! I hope that wasn't some sort of sick Friday the 13th joke (not that there is such a thing, but it's all I can come up w/!)

Last night was pretty much a bust. My mom and I decided to make a day of it and go to Boston just for the hell of it. Since Avalon's on Lansdowne street and we're big Sox people, we had to hit up Fenway. We bought some raffle tix for three official World Series rings that they're giving away. I guess it's the first time any team has ever raffled off tix for the fans. It's beyond unlikely that we'll win, but the $ goes to charity, so who cares?!? Then, we asked about 3 tix to any of the home games left this season and they said all they had were scattered singles and obstructed view. Blech!

So, we rounded the corner and went by Avalon. There were only like 25 people there, which totally shocked me, because it was already 3. I figured there'd be tons of people either looking for tix, or just there to be in line, since it's all GA (I mean, they were opening the doors at 6 (I'd wait more than 3 hours to be front row at a tiny venue like Avalon!). We'd already gone by at 2 or something, and the line wasn't any bigger at 3 and then 3:30, so we decided to kill an hour and go on a tour of Fenway. We figured, it'd be the closest we'd get, so we'd better take it (I've only seen one game at Fenway, years ago, back when they sucked...of course they lost!) Anyway, it was really cool. Got to see the super expensive Club seats, and tour around the press box. They were working on the field, so we couldn't walk around the warning track.

Anyway, after the tour, we ran back to the car to make sure we didn't have a ticket or anything (gotta love parking signs that are have one sign that says 2 hour parking w/ one under it that says No Parking Anytime...actually, that's more of an NYC thing. These weren't that bad, but we wanted to double check.) No ticket, so we went back to Avalon. A SH*T.LOAD of people! Maybe a few hundred. It was about 5:40. The girl in front of me was also ticketless. The couple behind me had bought tix from a scalper the day they went on sale for $200 each, and the people behind them got them on ticketmaster at 4:30, when they released an extra block!!! ARG!

So, around 6, they opened the doors, and by the time we got close, someone (for the first time) asked us if we had tix in hand, and told us to get out of the line, since we didn't. There was a mini group of people on the curb (like 12 of us) who had heard about the Chicago thing and came down for the hell of it. I found out later that around 4 they let them all in for the soundcheck. DAMMIT! I figured the Fenway tour was a great way to kill some time. I can't believe we missed out on the soundcheck. I guess they were like 10 feet away! I would have left more than happy, if I'd gotten into the sound check, let me tell you!

So, times a-passin'. We get excited a couple of times seeing stacks of tix going by (always going back to the VIP list guy...the list apparently had 400 people on it!) Bouncers kept telling us to move farther down. There were like two mini groups. Ours w/ about a dozen that stayed pretty close together the whole time that was back by the end of the line/near a door where some roadies and a bouncer guy were, and another scattered group of a half a dozen by the front, near where the VIP guy was.

Around 7, this freaky pair of guys showed up. I dubbed one of them Googley-Eyes, because he had the freakiest googley eyes EVER! He totally looked psychotic, like that runaway bride. My mom and I had fun making fun of G-E w/ his striped Polo shirt and khakis, but G-E would be the one w/ the last laugh. More on him later.

Oh yeah, aroung 6:30 or so, this college aged guy and his girlfriend came out (when we were still up near the check-in, on the curb) and we got his story. He claimed that he had bought a pair of tix on eBay for $700 (and they didn't work). He's acting all distraught, and weepy, etc. I decided (after seeing the tix...they were these little purple things. The tix were just regular TM hard tix. They weren't even a computer print out for ticketfast). Anyway, I decided he was a theatre major from Emerson, who was trying to pull a scam w/ this faux sob-story. Whatever, it worked. They let him in! If it were me, I'd totally be screaming on the sidewalk, making a scene (like the suitcase!), but this guy was just kind of like *pout* "I can't believe that. I spent $700 dollars." *pout, look mildly distraught*

Back to Googley-Eyes. We've been shushed back by now, and my mom spots G-E getting closer to this bouncer w/ this crazy 70's porn star moustache (but he's bald and a total beast). Anyway, I start watching them, and see G-E reach up over the rail, onto the platform and shake Mr. Porn's hand. Porno looks down the street in our direction, holds two fingers close together on his chest, and a minute later this guy w/ a black hooded sweatshirt strolls by, quickly does the hand off, and Googley-Eyes walks past us, into the line w/ his tix! Right in front of us, another Avalon worker goes "You got 'em?" and does a little two finger to the forhead wave/salute thing. Shadey stuff is starting to brew. Right after that, we see this girl w/ long curly hair talk to Porno, and she runs off to the front where the guest list is. About 5 minutes later, she comes back w/ tix, not really willing to divulge how she got them. Kelly, the girl who was in front of me in the initial line, goes to talk to Mr. Porn. He's like "What? I've never seen any of those people you're talking about before. I have no idea what you're talking about." So we're thinking something funky's going on. Did G-E and Curly Hair buy him off? What's up?

So, we go to the front, there's no one handing out tix. We finally ask someone w/ a Coldplay pass, and he says he doesn't think it's going to happen tonight, because everything's been crazy. There have been people around w/ counterfeit tix, and the VIP list was out of control, so it didn't look hopeful at all. Earlier, this British guy w/ a walkie-talkie had been taking tabs on our group, and at one point, I saw him come out Porno's door w/ a small stack of tix (then he disappeared) but nothing really came of that. By 8, when we left, the crowds of people w/o tix started getting crazy, and I didn't want to stick around and see people that got there at 8 get in, and not get in myself (I thought that'd be worse than having everyone get turned away). On top of that, the line of ticket holders to get into Avalon got HUGE around quarter to 8. Hundreds of people just started showing up. It looked like they were way over booked, and there was no way, they'd be letting more in.

So, that was that. My mom and I picked up a spinach pizza on the way home, and we got some of the free junior frosties they were giving away at Wendy's (figured we wanted SOMETHING free out of all that!) and had a good laugh over how insanely small they were. Seriously, it was like an ounce! I was surprisingly not bitter last night. I really wasn't. We listened to A Rush of Blood to the Head on the way home, I thanked my mom for humoring me, and we got home, had some pizza and watched the Sox in Seattle. It wasn't a bad day at all, all things considered!

Anyway, this got terribly long, so I'm off. Keep me posted, Elphie!

Sounds like quite an experience! Sorry you didn't get in. You got to see some shady stuff goin' on, though! I'm so excited about NYC. This is gonna be a craaazy concert week for me.
I asked that guy if I could still buy that U2 Boston GA ticket and he said he already traded it for a GA to one of the other Boston shows, sorry. re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates! I should have just bought it when he offered.
Spelling Bee was amazing! I know it seems like I say that after every show, but they just keep getting better and better! Out of the 3 Best Musical nominees I've seen, I would rank Spelling Bee as 1st, DRS as 2nd, and Spamalot as 3d (unfortunately I think Spamalot will win). Anyway, it was hi-larious. We were in the front row, kind of on the side, right next to Celine Keenan-Bolger's seat on-stage. It felt like we were on stage. I guess my one complaint would be that the songs weren't all that memorable to me. But it was so good and so funny, so if you gals get a chance to see it, do.

It's not a big deal at ALL about the GA for Boston. I just figured if he happened to bring it up again, it might be worth taking him up on it.

You are going to have one hell of a week for concerts! You're going to be wiped out by the time U2's done on Saturday night!!!

There did seem to be some shady dealings going on yesterday in Boston. I just don't think I'm ballsy enough to reap any of the benefits, which is part of the reason we just threw in the towel. They were talking about it on the radio. It sounds like it was quite the show.

I can't wait for these shows in NYC. I'm still trying to sort some stuff out, but I'll figure something out. It would be a hell of a lot easier if they weren't such jerks at school and they'd let me stay w/ a friend who's doing summer sessions or my old roommate who's graduating, but they've shut off guest until after graduation on the 25th.

Did you hear about the show on Tuesday at The Beacon? I guess several people on coldplay.com got in for that too, but it doesn't sound like anything compared to a 30 person show/taping/interview, whatever! I wonder what it is??? And I wonder what Wednesday is!?!? AHHH!

Hopefully I'll catch you on-line tonight to figure some stuff out. Thanks again! re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

ETA: Glad you liked Spelling Bee. I'll need to catch it sometime when I go back to school or something. I enjoyed Spamalot, but I really hope they don't win. I'm kind of thinking it might be DRS's year, which would be great! I always like to see the little show come out on top, but after the hubbub w/ Q skipping out on the tour in favor of Vegas, I wonder if that'll hinder Spelling Bee's chances for the big one?
